Well you can't hate Nintendo for trying. I personally love 3D, all of my TVs and computer monitor is 3D. 3D is a nice feature watching/playing the right content.
Nintendo is trying to recapture the low cost tablet market with a budget 3ds. It needs to compete with low cost kindles and android tablets to stay relevant. Lowering the cost of the 3ds is a good move.
