New Kinect Software Turns Any Surface Into Touch Screen

Microsoft teams up with Ubi Interactive to release software for Kinect 3D mapping allowing any surface to be a touch screen. Users will have the ability to interact with applications and web pages on any surface as if it was a smart phone or tablet.

Can you imagine Kinect coupled with the Oculus Rift?

From what I read, the biggest downfall to the VR device is not having arms and legs. Kinect could change all that.

Kinect 2 doesn't have any potential Mod support unlike its predecessor, Microsoft last I had heard cut it off so no one could dabble with it as MANY have made great leaps in technological features as simply a hobby who don't even work in the gaming industry or for Microsoft.

Well you seem pretty ignorant for someone who "actually been working on it for a while", as this is not a Microsoft product. This is a third party company that is selling software that uses a Kinect and a projector.

But this does represent the first time you can contemplate projecting star craft onto a wall or a table and play it all futuristic like. Hmm, looking at how it works, looks like you can use to to retro fit your giant Samsung LCD TV with touch screen as well. Thats kind of cool, huh?

Suddenly , MS became innovative with games and features. What the hell with these fanboys , since when MS was good at games. And sony is investing the same thing on gaikai which is about games , not like MS that invest on stuff like kinect. Don't tell me xbox will have dedicated service , ps4 will have it too , ps4 will have cloud stuff too. So what's the innovative thing that related to games MS did.

This is supper cool if it works as advertised. No wonder they are trying to sell X1's for business presentations. No remote or assistant needed. Can really speed up those meetings, so my head don't keep falling onto the desk.

On a side note: Lee's woke was ahead of this, but this is not exactly the same an is more approachable because you do not need an inferred pen or anything else in your hand.

You don't need to be anal about this reveal in order to give Mr. Lee his credit.

Sorry, I call it as I see it. If Kinect is the future of gaming then Nintendo would be kings of the universe and all of creation since Kinect was M$ attempt to do their version of "move" controls.

Kinect games? I cant even get into how dumb they are and once Microsoft was embarrassed when THEY even couldn't get Steel Battalion to work properly after promoting it as the defacto Kinect game to get....Kinect just fell off the map for them. Now its Kinect 2.
They doing with Kinect what they did with Internet Explorer. They bundle it up and by simply buying the box you have to get the camera.
This is the way they can boast great sales numbers. I own a Kinect. I use it to rest my WiiU, Xbox and PS3 controllers on it.

If it was such a dud, they would have scrapped it instead of sinking millions into its successor.

From most reports.. They aren't making squat off it.. Its being included because they feel its the future..

Yeah, but this is a thing you can actually buy. Those other things on the market costs $10's of thousands of dollars, and require engineers to come out to your place to install them, need special custom software etc...

Personally I would still like to see projector, Kinect sensor, etc all be integrated to the point that you just plug the touch screen projector into your laptops HDMI port and it all "just works".

I get home from a long day of work and I'm already ready to immerse myself in the Elder Scroll 6, the 6th iteration in the Elder Scrolls series which just came out yesterday.

I bought it digitally this morning and let work eat up the download time. But I digress, I sit down on my couch and say "Xbox On". I hear the familiar but almost unnoticeable whir as the box fires up. The clean interface shows up on the screen and I excitedly say "Play The Elder Scrolls 6". The game starts up.

I pull my ottoman closer to me but instead of resting my feet atop of it my ceiling mounted projector bleeds the Elder Scrolls 6 U.I. across it's surface. I grab my controller, and as I start a new game the game map shows up stretched around my ottoman. I instantly know that gaming can't possibly get any better.

Or can it. I contemplate getting an Occulus, but my attention quickly shifts as epic old age symphonic music blares through my speakers.
