GC: When the Wii U was announced, people started talking about the system’s gamepad as a counter by Nintendo to Apple’s popular tablet, iPad.
"this thing called an ‘iPad’ came into the world" Best thing ever.
Ha, yes. I love the way he says that. I love Nintendo so much.
Agreed, it's nice that they compare it to the iPad but, I think Nintendo dropped the ball when they developed their gamepad. If only tNintendo had spent a little more planning, time and money it would've turned out a whole lot better. ;)
Isn't it kind of funny that Sony revealed the PS Move back in 2001 but they were accused of copying the Wii. Kind of hilarious Nintendo is facing the same music now.
Except that it's been even worse since Apple's monumental rise this past decade. Companies can basically make anything with a touchscreen and be accused of copying Apple these days. That's how Appletards operate. All this copyright BS and all the accusations that take off all over the internet have created a very hostile environment in technology that seems to suggest that nothing should be influenced by anything.
@LOL_WUT Yes, because that fully functional gamepad honestly needed more crap in it and needed to be made more expensive. The thing is hardly an iPad. It's like a DS in home console form, and it's an HD screen. The number one thing it was made for was for playing games. The markets are different; comparing the two, to me, is foolhardy. Will anyone accuse the Vita of being an iPad rip off for its two touch screens? How about any of the new tablet/PC hybrids? No? Then why are we singling out Nintendo? Again?
They are not comparing it to the iPad. It's people accusing them of stealing Apples idea. They are replying because of the comparison.
You spelled laptop wrong. An ipad is and never will be a replacement for a laptop or the newly released hybrids. Its just not functional enough. Laptops are imo the "best thing ever"
Yes and tablets can't even run my software/games from years ago.
They said the same about Pokemon that they had the monster catching idea before Dragon Quest V was made, but there's no proof so I call it BS til they show actual proof.
What do you call the Nintendo DS? What probably happened was someone thought it would be a good idea to apply the DS concept to the home console. I really don't think this idea is farfetched, though I am surprised it took someone 4 years to actually consider the idea.
Yeah if nint copied them, then they must have copied the Nintendo DS, according to that faulty logic.
The ipad is not even the first. Nobody remembers the Tablet PC from 2002?
The iPad was not even the first tablet lol. It's just the first one to be very popular
I always assumed that the gamepad was them just transitioning their DS concept to the home console.
lol..haha..haters are coming out everywhere against the wiiu...copying the ipad...did sega copy nintendo by making a home console, did sony and microsoft copy nintendo and sega....if its mainstream there will be alot of version...nintendo's gamepad is a new way to interact with console gaming, not an ipad....this a joke
The idea for the Ipad probably came before the idea of Wii U. Anyways if so how can Nintendo copy something that they did not know about it at the time? They popularized touchscreen gaming with the DS. They popularized motion gaming with the Wii. I think Nintendo always innovates with the 3DS is the only handheld device that produces glasses free 3D feature and the Wii shows a gaming dedicated tablet. Hopefully next Nintendo can redeem themselves and make a great virtual reality device (like the virtual boy).
yeah nintendo copied the iPad because I can see face buttons on an iPad and a home console for it to controll, oh wait that's the wii u not ipad, the gamepap isn't even a tablet its a controller, also Nintendo used touch screens before apple and hp and Compaq used touch screens before Nintendo on there windows mobile pda (mobile windows has been around for over 10 years just wanst popular till recently). its just Nintendo brought touch screens to the masses
Dont give Apple ideas. They'll end up by making a sue to everyone for the rights of a "touchscreen"
Nintendo Has been doing the duel screens for years, Way before IPAD was around. So no Nintendo did not copy Apple. If Nintendo did not have the DS and touch screen on their handhelds for years, I guess you could argue that they were coping Apple, but no. Someone on this thread commented on Nintendo Coping Sony with the Wii Remotes, and that Sony announced Playstation Move back in 2001, well yes Sony was toying with the idea to go along with their Playstation Eye, but it was never officially announced until June 2 2009 that is 2 1/5 years after Wii was released. PS move in my opinion was more accurate, until Wii remote plus came out, and now I find the Wii Remote to be amazingly accurate.
Nintendo has been into dual screen gaming since Gunpei Yokio designed the dual screen Game & Watches in the early 80s.
Nintendo always is trying. They are one of the few who actually takes risks even though they also play it safe way too much in other games / ways. They fail sometimes and don't impress the ignorant, but those that see it can realize what Nintendo does for gaming as a whole. Even those who don't like Nintendo will sometimes admit that.
Why do people even say it's an ipad copy. Why is it not other tablets being called ripoffs?
Because of good branding / popularity. If you owned a MP3 player after the iPod, most people would call it an iPod, regardless of it being a walkman or Zune. If you owned a smart phone prior to the touch craze, most people would call it a Black Berry and if it's a touch screen smart phone, then it would be called an iPhone by most. This also appears in other areas, like band aids, so it's not unique to tech either. However, this is probably a case of them wanting views, since people get extremely defensive / offensive when Apple is mentioned.
Ok, I get it, but the Gamepad's only real similarities are web browsing, a screen, and the word "pad". Other tablets are pretty much just the iPadd but by someone else. I just don't get it.
OMG really? Ok heres a really dumb comparison... ready? Everyone thats ever published a book is just copying the first person that did it so all books are garbage by comparison and not an original idea, and the same goes for all music, cars, movies, etc...etc... ITS A Fu#@ING CONTROLLER so my comparison is null and void :P good day
Just wait for more Nintendo games to come out. We'll see if they just gerrymandered a copy of the iPad. I have a sense that Apple will do what it can to mitigate Nintendo's success. Sure they will both do just fine on their own. But I find that they each appeal to their own crowd. For those who want to pretend that "Move" wasn't a response to the Wii remote, I would point to the fact that Sony didn't release Move until well after Wii came out. Honestly, they sat on it, and if they really thought it'd be a game changer they'd have shipped one with every Ps3. We "will" see a response to the WiiU gamepad. Just because that's how this industry works.
things are dire when ppl compare a controller to a tablet. you look at these kind of things and you can't refute ppl that say the internet is making humanity dumber...
Well said :)
