Nokia announce the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 Windows Phone 8 devices

VGTODAY: "Yesterday afternoon Nokia announced their new Windows Phone 8 devices the flagship Lumia 920 and the mid-range Lumia 820 which replace the Lumia 900 and the Lumia 800 respectively."

kharma454250d ago

Very excited about the 920, could well be a stellar flagship device from Nokia.

Nice big screen on it for gaming and with EA bringing games over and the Unity engine supporting WP8 hopefully the platform can catch up to Android and iOS for gaming on the move.

THC CELL4250d ago

im sorry but nokia needs to stop , all about andriod or apple now, even blackberry fails. i really want the 007 xperia T but sadly i ran out and got the xperia s day one..

kharma454250d ago

Competition is good, and Windows Phone 8 is shaping up to be a potentially very good OS for phones.

With RIM falling by the way side we need Microsoft to push hard like they are doing.

My Wild Night with VR

It was one trip that Travis couldn't help but recall, even though the beer flowed like wine. Oh, and there was a TON of VR available to digest.

I wished I lived in a future where a matrix like virtual world better than the real one, with no work and whatever activities you could think of would be at your disposal existed. I could leave my body for years in a machine that would feed me through tubes, as I lived my days virtually. Make it happen science!

UltraNova2853d ago

So it was you who took all the red pills...

stuna12853d ago

He doom all of us to live in the real world.

starchild2852d ago

Yes! Those are virtual worlds you can visit every night.

LaWiiG2852d ago

Hey, if that's what you choose to do, there should be no reason for you not to. Everyone deserves the right to live how they want.

Phil Spencer, We Still Want an XBox Handheld and the Time for One is Right

A plea for Phil Spencer and MS to reconsider their position on an XBox handheld, and why doing so could allow them to create problems for their console competitors. An opinion piece by Agasicles Stamas, editor for GamersSphere.com.

The last time i heard anybody talk about a Xbox handheld was when the Nintendo DS & PSP came out. Everyone just automatically assumed that since Microsoft was still sort of a newcomer to gaming industry that they were gonna just gonna follow suit and directly compete with Sony & Nintendo in the handheld market. I don't see them entering that market and even if they did they wouldn't be successful. Nintendo owns that market and always will.

candy_mafia3637d ago (Edited 3637d ago )

Super bad idea MS....

I think MS wants in on the whole 'Remote play' thing. MS needs to win more hearts 'n minds with X1 around the globe, before developing a dedicated Handheld.

Unless it's some kind of 'Hosting' device that 'only' does Remote Play. Otherwise, I think this could be Mr. Spencer's first big Boo-Boo in charge of Xbox division ;/

Ryan7413637d ago (Edited 3637d ago )

You are wasted on here. Do you work in the games industry? If not its a dam shame.

truefan13637d ago (Edited 3637d ago )

You and many others just proved you don't read past the title concerning MSFT/XB1 articles. The very first sentence without clicking the article says "A plea for Phil Spencer and MS to reconsider their position on an XBox handheld, and why doing so could allow them to create problems for their console competitors." This is just someone who thinks MSFT should create a hanheld, NOT MSFT considering a handheld.

I doubt MSFT gets into the handheld business because they are pushing buy once, play anywhere. I think the surface will be their handheld, finding a way to link the controller to the tablet.

MCTJim3637d ago

@truefan1

What people read?..how silly

vallencer3636d ago

I think Microsoft is content with smartglass. Making a handheld would be a bad idea and they know it. Hence why smartglass seems to do all the things they want.

UltimateMaster3636d ago

I tough they said that the "Windows Phones" were their new handheld.

Prime1573636d ago (Edited 3636d ago )

If ms made a handheld, it might actually help the handheld industry bring AAA games to the handheld market.

Big xbox fanboys would most likely buy one, and then when a third party developer creates a big game for one, they would probably not go exclusive (as a third party). Which results in more sales for the developer because of Nintendo, Sony, and ms having their own install base.

I'm just saying, xbox handheld would increase the amount of handheld install base, not steal from the current market share between vita and Nintendo.

I don't see it hampering the market, but that doesn't mean it would actually help the market and be profitable for business.

Just my overall speculation.

The handheld market's biggest audience are commuter counties like Japan and Europe. You know, the audience that doesn't buy Xbox products.

Brazz3637d ago

yup. these and childrens that are in love for pokemon and other nintendo games. Microsoft and sony need strong 3º party support if they want win a fight against nintendo in handheld market, something that is very unlike to happen, since handheld market that good for third party.

nypifisel3637d ago

And even that market is in decline since smartphones entered the stage. This is stupid really.

MASTER_RAIDEN3637d ago

agreed. I honestly dont remember the last time in at least 5 years that anyone even brought up the possibility of a microsoft handheld. that would just seem like a huge waste of money thrown into an already-crowded market.

3637d ago
Mankey3637d ago

True, I just kind of assumed they weren't interested at this point.

3-4-53637d ago (Edited 3637d ago )

Yea Xbox handheld would be awesome, but Nintendo has got these things on lock down. I mean there is room for a 3rd competitor, but Good luck, your going to need it.

* How much you want to bet it's more expensive than the Wii U is.

Godmars2903637d ago

MS cannot still be "new to gaming". Not now. Not when the DS and PSP came out.

Given that they've pulled at least one boner with each console they've released, its time to realize and admit that they're just clueless.

Magicite3637d ago

and I was wondering when MS will finally unleash its portable beast...
On a serious note - handheld market is having a rough times, even successor of glorious DS, is not faring that well.

christocolus3637d ago (Edited 3637d ago )

I don't know what to make of this.Ms doesn't need a handheld for now and besides Nintendo will be really hard to compete with in that market as their handhelds have reigned supreme in every generation..I don't think MS should bother about that now imo they need to put all their focus on the xbox one.

Phil is right.releasing a handheld wouldn't be a wise deceision.

CerealKiller3637d ago

A handheld would be a massive failure.

Imonaboat13637d ago

I would buy it in a heart beat. I just hope it doesnt turn into a gameless machine and actually be worth the hype. Unlike the Vita.

Ryan7413637d ago

The Vita is a good machine its just the games are kinda niche.

Summons753637d ago

The very few games are niche but niche doesn't sell well to masses and in business you need to focus on getting the masses first and the niche will soon follow. Even still there is a handful of titles worth actually purchasing on the vita that you can count on your hand and nothing major or exclusive in the pipeline that makes people want to justify 250+ bucks after memory and games. Their biggest mistake is making a huge deal out of the remote play feature, a lot of people are getting confused and thinking that's it's purpose now.

etownone3637d ago

I own a Vita..

Only AAA exclusive game so far is Killzone.

The Vita just sucks... I'm sorry but it does. It's already outdated by cellphones.

The future of portable gaming is smartphones/tablets.... Once they learn how to link the controllers to them to work flawlessly.

GameDev13637d ago

@DanielGearSolid

He doesn't own a Vita, look at his comment history, clearly xbox fanboy

Imonaboat13637d ago (Edited 3637d ago )

Yes i do. I got it on launch day and i remember being hyped as hell the days before the launch.

@GameDev

I own a Vita,PS4,PS3,3DS, Wii u i have never owned an Xbox which doesnt mean i hate it i just dont find any game appealing for me there. Also, i just state the truth. If Sony are doing something bad i will point it out. The same for Nintendo and Microsoft.

Show me one comment that implies i am an Xbox fanboy

AceBlazer133636d ago

Vita gameless? How bout you reword that to "No games you like" with all the rpgs i see on vita it's more than enough for me. You idiots always spreading this no games bs, i guarantee you don't own every vita game.

Uncharted
Unit 13
Gravity Rush
Conception II
Persona 4
Danganronpa Games
Demon Gaze
Call of Duty Declassified
Disgaea 3
Dragon Ball Z Battle of Z
FIFA 13 and 14
God Eater 2
Guilty Gear
Killzone Mercenary
MLB 12-14
Muramasa Rebirth
2 One Piece Games
Resistance
Sly Cooper
Senran Kagura

If anyone can say with a straight face that Vita has no games, they are either, hating, delusional, echoing what they hear or have an extremely limited taste in video games.

dodgemoose3636d ago

You should probably take some of those games off that list of yours. For instance, Call of Duty Declassified is just horrendous and Fifa 13/14 aren't even the updated games, but rather 'legacy' editions of Fifa Football.

But yes, the argument that Vita has no games is flawed. However, that list is very limited, and it ain't really getting any longer either. I finished playing all the AAA Vita games that took my fancy within 3 months. I've found myself just playing indie games as of late, which whilst great in their own right, simply don't satisfy me to the same extent as games much as Killzone: Mercenary (which I've got a platinum on btw).

Harsh reality is, if Sony doesn't pull anything out of the bag at E3 for Vita, think mine may end up on eBay soon. I think it's unlikely they will though, since focus needs to be put on the PS4.

All Systems Go For Microsoft's Nokia Buyout After EU Approval

Three months ago, Microsoft and Nokia announced a 7.3 billion dollar deal that would give Microsoft complete control of Nokia's manufacturing and license to all of their technology and patents. Today, that deal had its final obstacle cleared by the approval of an EU anti-trust commission and could have a big impact on Microsoft and mobile gaming.
