I wish people would stop using quantum leap. it's the smallest possible leap

Hatsune-Miku4269d ago (Edited 4269d ago )

I will buy both Xbox 720 and ps4 first minute they're available. I can't wait. I'm hoping to see uncharted 4, killzone 4 on launch day for ps4.

I'm already predicting that uncharted 4 and killzone 4 will be the best looking games anywhere on their release day. I really can't wait to see the specs for these consoles and I'm quite sure that when both are released it'll be hours before anyone can sign on to n4g because of the traffic. I know fanboys will go crazy touting specs.

Zha1tan4269d ago (Edited 4269d ago )

I dont think the specs are going to be that crazy to be honest, If they were to put something in there that would be the equivalent to a top end PC card the consoles would be really expensive.

blumatt4269d ago

I also hope GT6 comes out on the Ps4. I know everyone wants them to put it on PS3 but I hope it'll be on ps4. Imagine the graphics and physics.

Also Uncharted 4 and Klllzone 4 will be amazing on PS4.

LBP3 will likely come out on PS4 as well. Imagine the beautiful textures and materials!! :)

I just hope the PS4 will be around $399 or less. $299/399 would be awesome but I think $399/499 is more likely (sadly). LoL

The 720 will likely continue the same franchises from the 360: Halo, Gears, Fable, and Forza. They'll have a couple more new IPs I'm sure as well. If they come out at $299 as rumored in that leaked document, they'll sell like crazy out of the gate.

Gazondaily4269d ago

Same here!

Can you imagine what Killzone 4, Uncharted and Halo will look like next gen?! And all other strides in areas like physics, scale etc.

Ah man I'm so excited.

TheRealSpy4269d ago (Edited 4269d ago )

If you think MS is going to let development on Halo 5 fall behind, you're crazy. It hasn't taken them 3.5 years to develop Halo 4. It's taken them 3.5 years to develop tech for Halo 5. By the time that game hits, they'll have 5+ years behind it. I guarantee that it'll be the best looking console game in 2014.

I'm sure ND and Guerrilla will continue working on those franchises, and i'm sure they'll look good. but, i'll be surprised if KZ4 even touches the original launch trailer for KZ2.

and lets not forget, Halo is a sandbox-esque game with improvisational AI and multiple ways to experience a situation. KZ and Uncharted are not.

Shaman4269d ago (Edited 4269d ago )

PS4 specs from Dec 2011 (dev kits)- 4GB of GDDR5(2GB for retail as of now, could go to 4GB if density improves), 4 core Jaguar CPU, underclocked Pitcairn GPU.

Durango specs from February 2012 (dev kits) - 12 GB of DDR4 (8 GB in retail), 8 core X86, custom GPU without new type of embedded memory that will be in retail.

Thats what I've have read.

arjman4269d ago

@Shaman

PS4 specs from Dec 2011 (dev kits)- 4GB of GDDR5(2GB for retail as of now, could go to 4GB if density improves), 4 core Jaguar CPU, underclocked Pitcairn GPU.

I thought the Jaguar CPUs were made for tablets not games consoles?

Shaman4269d ago

Nope, actually a week ago AMD had presentation. New Jaguars are middle range CPUs and are very good when looked at performance per watt. You also have to understand that Sony and MS are going for a bit more custom CPU. They are going to get rid of the things they don't need and ask AMD to put things they do.

greenpowerz4269d ago (Edited 4269d ago )

I agree.

Next gen standards Will be much more than graphics. Just as the 369 shown this generation capability will be judged on sandbox game design.

Next generation the standard will be set on how well a console can do multiple things at once in the background while the game is playing. Graphics will be important. Horsepower allowing to run games with massive and complex living worlds with advanced social online features.

Multi platform games will be the best looking games on next gen consoles at first because they prepared much earlier making games on pc and redesigning their engines for next gen at the same time.

The kid was talking best looking games on PS4 but will that matter if a game like halo 5 has 8 player coop with hundreds of things on screen happening all at once on a massive battlefield with a hundred enemies trying to kill them from the air and on the ground in vehicles of all sizes? No one will think nice looking linear games proves PS4 is more capable if they experienced my fictional halo 5 on 720. The same basically happened this generation.

Voiceofsoi4269d ago (Edited 4269d ago )

I'm pretty sure the next generation of consoles will astound people visually whether their specs are impressive or not.

Look, I love PC gaming. Every time I see a new game on PC it looks awesome. However, I also know that a lot of PC gamers out there love to point out how the flexibility of their hardware makes consoles state of the art for about 3 months, then obsolete.

But additional processing power on PC compared to consoles will only help raise the texture resolution, raise the frame rate, eliminate aliasing and add additional lighting and camera effects.

You cannot improve the realism of the performance capture, you cannot add intricacy to the skeletal structure and musculature of the characters, you cannot improve the way in which animations are rendered and processed in real time. These are the changes that bring in-game graphics closer to realism, and these changes only come with a new wave of hardware.

You can't buy a PC that will make any game out today look like Star Wars 1313 or Square Enix's Agni's Philosophy demo. Those are demonstrations that were created without the technical limitations of current-gen development tools.

So basically, if you think 720 / PS4 launch games aren't going to look as good as GTA IV on your decked-out PC with ICEnhancer, you're just wrong. Sorry.

What's more, if you buy a $300 PC, a $300 PS3, and a $300 Xbox 360, the best graphics you will be able to experience will be PS3 exclusives.

It's not about your tech, it's about the developers'.

Gazondaily4269d ago

Slightly off-topic but am I the only one who thinks Frank Gibeau looks like an older version of the chap who plays Harry Potter in that pic?

I beg to differ considering the PS3 and 360 are from 2004/5.

b163o14269d ago

ps3 dropped Nov.11 06

tigertron4269d ago

You forget that consoles take a long time to develop. It was clear from E3 2005 that they had a prototype PS3 with developers already developing games for it. That tech was being worked on right through 2004 in preparation for it's E3 2005 unveiling. They don't take less than a year to make a console.

LightofDarkness4269d ago (Edited 4269d ago )

Definition: a sudden large increase or advance; "this may not insure success but it will represent a quantum leap from last summer".

Methinks you may want to look that one up.

I know, in physics, it means the smallest amount of something in an interaction. But we're not talking about physics; it's being used in the colloquial sense, which has a generally accepted meaning.

The Meerkat4269d ago (Edited 4269d ago )

In physics it actually means changing from one energy position to another without passing though the space in between. (which just happens to be a small distance)

Therefore in technology terms it means the NEW model is so different to the one that precedes it that the steps to get there are not apparent. i.e. A big change.

LightofDarkness4269d ago

Yeah, that's true Meerkat, I was just defining a quantum and highlighting that the context is quite important (and different) here.

thorstein4268d ago

@Meer and Light,

Consider using entangled electrons: one could make a leap from one end of the galaxy to the other almost instantaneously and that is all thanks to quantum mechanics. So, yes, it can be quite a leap.

DeadlyFire4269d ago

I agree the leap though from the old hardware will be impressive even so. Because games like Battlefield 3 PC, Metro Last Light PC, Crysis 2 PC(DX11) will be the bottomline graphics for the new generation.

I honestly hope Sony and Microsoft pack in more tech than what is expected. So far what is expected is around 1-3 Tflops. Which even at 3 Tflops will be impressive. I am hoping for multiple chips in the systems to have something that is not yet attainable by the PC market. Then it would be a true quantum leap in tech. Say if they aimed for 8 Tflops in the system. Seems impossible, but if it could happen it would be truely next gen stuff. The heat it would produce could be a problem though if they went that far.

There are rumors of Ray tracing, and Voxel engines, and so on.

Calm Down Sunshine4269d ago

All looks, looks, looks.

What about FUN? And you wonder why Crash Bandicoot has been abandoned..

pixelsword4268d ago (Edited 4268d ago )

@ Gribble

Every time I hear that when people use it, it doesn't sound right because the original term is used for an electron jumping from one energy level to another. There may yet be smaller "leaps", but I don't think they have been discovered yet.

GribbleGrunger4268d ago (Edited 4268d ago )

LOL. Look at how the disagrees have appeared because of how the true meaning of quantum leap has now been redefined. Perhaps that's why I wish people would stop using it? The word originated in physics and means very small leap. That's why I said what I said. Words lose there meaning when popularised and misused and clearly this phrase has now been completely reversed in meaning.

Oh well I don't really give an iota, to boldly go as they say

Will probably get all the next gen games ported to it with some restrictions to the game's atmosphere due to hardware limitations.

If the PS2 generation is anything to go back hardware isn't what makes the games sell. If WiiU is popular enough nearly all the new Ips and games will make their way to the system.

TheRealSpy4269d ago (Edited 4269d ago )

Did i just get an ad to click through to an article?

WTF N4G? Guess it's time to move on.

No FanS Land4269d ago

if the fox engine can push graphics this quality on a seven year old tech, what will the companies have to pull off to impress people, spec-wise? there's that awkward feeling between planned obsolescence and longevity.

I'm guessing the platform holders planned tio introduce the 8 th gen on 2011-2012 or 2012-2013 fiscal year but ended pushing the hardware as late as they could to maximize profit on this gen and soften dev costs that exploded with this gen.

Shadonic4269d ago

I thought that the MGS fox engine demo was running on PC.

DeadlyFire4269d ago

It was demoed on PC. PS3/X360 version will resemble the same kinda difference like Battlefield 3 PC vs. PS3/X360 versions.

LightofDarkness4269d ago

I don't think the delta will be quite so large with MGS:GZ; in terms of polygon count, shader complexity and textures, there will be a noticeable downgrade, but not in the way you see it with BF3. For instance, BF3 PC featured fancier lighting effects vs. consoles (objects lighting the environment and such). The lighting on display in GZ wasn't quite so intensive (note how the flare does not cast lighting/radiosity), so that portion at least is built with portability in mind.

SlavisH24269d ago

so it wasn't running on console then? u sound like a salesman how refuses to tell you a straight answer, lmao!

WeskerChildReborned4268d ago

It was running on PC, Hideo said it would look the same on PS3 but we have to wait and see.

tehpees34269d ago

I'm not really expecting a big change in storage. SSDs are too expensive currently so we'll probably have expanded hard drives or system memory.

Former Dragon Age lead writer David Gaider pours scorn on EA's AI dreams.

"They want you to believe the devs under them are super stoked to work generative AI into their processes," continued Gaider, "but I assure you what they took as excitement was really a veiled wail of despair not unlike the time that team was informed of their new 'really cool' live service mandate.".

Phil Spencer and the Battle for Xbox’s Soul

Has the rapid growth of Xbox made the ship too heavy? Following the closures of Tango Gameworks, Arkane Austin, and Roundhouse, we explore what the future of Xbox could look like.

LG_Fox_Brazil2d ago

This ship was never meant to sail, this ship was made from the get go to sink as fast as possible. It almost feels that they want to lower the standards of quality in the industry so that they can fit in

rlow12d ago

I disagree, Xbox from the get go innovated and changed the industry. They did a lot of firsts and standardized a lot of others. It wasn’t till the beginning of the Xbox1 era that things started to go south.

Stevonidas1d 20h ago

Yep, although I’d argue it started going to shit when they tried to hock Kinect on their audience instead of continuing to invest in their studios and IPs. 2001-2010 Xbox was peak gaming, though.

rlow11d 19h ago

@Stevonidas
I agree they never should have focused on it after the 360 era. But you do have to remember they were faked out by the huge volumes of Kinects sold. To quote info on Wikipedia, “Project Natal, It was first released on November 4, 2010, and would go on to sell eight million units in its first 60 days of availability.” So if your Xbox and see these huge sales on a peripheral where are you going to put some money? Criticism in hindsight is worthless…..if only we could all see our future. In other wards they had no way of knowing. Plus they had engagement numbers and a lot of signs pointed to people wanting it.

Their biggest mistake wasn’t the Kinect, but unlike Sony after the PS3 debacle. They didn’t double on down on exclusive good games. The other huge mistake was letting Call of Duty go to Sony.

Hedstrom2d ago

Phil wants Xbox to be as soulless as him!

Tacoboto2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Xbox has no soul and Phil has no confidence, and it's impossible to say either do when they killed Tango and Arkane Austin.

Everything they've said since has only made them look worse to a point that they're actually less competent than Embracer.

Markdn2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Whe you release something like the series S and expect it not to hurt your business model, and developers have to have parity with games. Then you know Microsoft don't care. Series s is the final nail that broke developers,

Sarah Bond dodges questions on Xbox studio closures

While on stage with Dina Bass at The Bloomberg Technology Summit the President of Xbox, Sarah Bond, was asked about the Xbox studio closures of Arkane Austin, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog, and Roundhouse Studios

3d ago
ApocalypseShadow3d ago

Of course she did. She's part of the problem and will just tow the company line.

VenomUK3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Bloomberg’s Dina Bass could barely read her scripted question without looking at her notes, whilst Sarah Bond who WAS expecting the question spoke without saying anything of substance or answering the question in any meaningful way. Clearly she’s had the same expert PR training as Phil, but this avoidance was disrespectful. In time the short-sighted decision to shut down Tango Gameworks will be seen as of the most notorious examples why Phil Spencer messed up his tenure in charge of Xbox. That’s a fully built out talented team that could’ve been put to work on any project.

Additionally, Phil Spencer should not be using Sarah Bond as a patsy for his mistakes- he should be answering that question.

gleepot3d ago

I think you are all really overselling Tangos value. Hi-Fi rush was a lot of fun. Ghostwire was incredibly dull. Evil within 1 and 2 were just okay.

lucasnooker3d ago

Evil within 2 was incredibly under rated. I thought that game was surprisingly good

NotoriousWhiz3d ago

Someone else said it best. I don't think it was a Phil decision. It was most likely a Satya decision. I think Microsoft is done giving out free money to Xbox.

Christopher3d ago

She's playing her role. There's absolutely nothing any of them can say other than the truth, this is about profit margins and not quality, so they just don't answer anything and wait for gamers to forget.

shinoff21832d ago

I think news is coming of more ps5 release but they gotta be careful cause Xbox is still sitting on store shelves. They can't get left holding all that stock

Lightning772d ago

Come next month they'll flash nice looking games in our faces and expecting us to forget.

The only thing that'll be going through my mind at their showcase is how many of those studios will get shut down after release.

I'm not joking around either. MS probably expects every game to be like COD and do COD numbers. What a way to destroy gaming for the entire industry because they're dumb af at being realistic in what success means for each game.

notachance3d ago

I always wondered why xbox had multiple leaders with similar titles like Phil Spencer, Matt Booty, and Sarah Bond, like, how many heads do you actually need?

Seems to me it would be more cost efficient to cut 2 of them instead of all those studios.

DarXyde3d ago

Frankly, I suspect she is the most competent of them. I don't mean that I like her more, I mean that she's the best at articulating herself and giving the talking points MS wants to give. The others are starting to sound more like her than her sounding like any of them.

Are any of these people "responsible" for what's happening? No. This reeks of Nadella. But that being said, I don't see any of the Xbox heads stepping down in protest.

"Don't shoot the messenger", sure, but at the same time, the messengers don't seem to take umbrage with the message. Not enough to remove themselves from it, anyway.

CS72d ago

I disagree. Nadella is looking for profit as a CEO should in my opinion.

The problem is Dr. Phil & Co. had 10 years to bring Xbox back on track and have been failing woefully.

Phil needs to sell to Nadella that if we are to make a profit, we need to make great games. And to do that we need employees here for the long haul and the freedom to work on creative projects.

But as Phil said himself he doesn’t believe great games sell consoles.

RpgSama2d ago

Dude, 100%, forgot Major Nelson and Aaron Greenberg, like what is the point for all these suits? They have more C-level executives than games released in a generation.

This is just so they can all pass along the hot potato one at a time and in between all of them can say a lot without actually saying anything, misinformation at its finest.
