Diablo 3 has received much criticism for several reasons, from its writing to its gameplay systems. However, JK Thomas writes that its largest failing is a more fundamental and intangible one: it's failure of atmosphere. Because of the failure of atmosphere, there is no emotional connection to be made, no feelings associated with the game.

Cyberpunk and No Man's Sky have to be up there. We're lucky and cursed, equally, to have games that can be updated now. For folks old enough to remember the Sega/SNES into PS1 and even 2 eras, if a game came out that was half baked (*cough*Angel of Darkness*cough*) that was it, no redemption. At the same time, having the option for updates shouldn't be an excuse for half assing games.
I remember when the Nintendo Seal of Approval meant something.
All those games had to release without bugs.

Yeah, I agree. It's one of the games many failings. They tried so hard to steer people away from the association, but WoW's influence is pretty obvious...
Basically the game dropped all the gothic and dark fantasy tinges that made the original games so uniquely atmospheric.
