Scottish gamers create piracy headache for Nintendo

The Sunday Post, A Scottish newspaper, reports that a piracy computer chip is now being used in Scotland. The chip uses the R4 to become the ultimate piracy tool and is said to have huge implications for the gaming industry.

It's sold for around £40 and creates a virtual unlimited passport to pirated software titles for the Nintendo DS. The R4 allows users to illegally download games directly from the Internet, and fits into the DS cartridge slot allowing people to transfer anything saved on a removable flash disk.

scotland? the R4 has been around everywhere for ages, all my DS owning friends have the R4.

My friends use the sister tech known as the M3ds simply. Just download the roms of the net and away you go.

the R4 is common where I live in scotland as well...a few folk I know have it..

I wouldnt say it anywhere NEAR the problem that we have with PC games piracy tho

You should see the distressed look on the Nintendian town dweller's faces when the Piracy Computer Ship slinks out of the early morning fog and in to harbor.

It then drops anchor and dozens of its little silicon crew scuttle to shore to steal their precious ROMs, robbing the terrified folk of their livelihood to add to their own ill gained riches..!

Even tho I pirate NDS games, and PC games for that matter
I still buy some games just to support the developers. I dont buy all games just some, If its a good game I want them to continue developing good games.If its an ok game I wait for the price to drop then buy it or atleast have that intention ( intentions dont mean jack tho)but if its a crap game then well you get the idea. If everyone everywhere pirated games the developers would have no motive to even create or release new games. what would be the point?

It all boils down to the money. Now im not saying that Im with or against piracy .. more on the "with" side cuz I do pirate. All Im saying is pay for what you enjoy cuz if things get too out of hand it will literally shake the game industry. Developers will feel less need to invest more time in games to take them over the top to make them great games simply because they know they wont sell that many anyway regardless of how good the game is.

Piracy is great in a sense for us consumers but we, in turn, affect ourselves as we affect those who work hard to create.

i downloaded a few games for teh PC over the space of a few months...ive now since went and bought them all (bar one or two which were rotten!)...

so i now feel better with myself lol

Big deal. I download emulators and ROMs on my PC and play old and out of date games that don't sell in stores anymore anyways. I even download the odd PC game like Oblivion. But all of my console gaming be it PSP, PS3, Xbox 360, PS2 is bought. I have spent more money than I can count on console games so I don't mind downloading a game once in a while.
