SpawnFirst interviews independent developer Xaviant, who is in charge of making a massive RPG named Lichdom that could "turn the RPG world on its head"
"We couldn't figure out how to keep people from murdering each other, so we decided to encourage it instead."
Xaviant today announced a major content update forThe Culling, its hit battle royale game currently on Steam Early Access. Starting April 27, the hunt gets kicked up a notch with the Trials of the Isle update, bringing new features like private lobbies, female playable characters, and special Trials Matches, as well as additional items to use or show off on the island.
Xaviant, the studio that developed Lichdom: Battlemage, is closing it's doors after 8 years.
wow, that's sad to see but I can't say I really heard much or knew much about Lichdom, I remember seeing it at PAX a while back but nothing of it since. Either way, good luck to those developers, I'm sure they'll find more work soon.
They really banked on Lichdom blowing up and carrying the studio forward, but it just didn't sell enough to keep everything up and running. That's the danger with a self-funded studio. At least the guys have good experience with development, and I'm sure they will find new jobs.
:/ Oh well, at least I had fun with it. Best of luck to you all at Xaviant.
