DOOM was revealed at QuakeCon. I'm excited, but I honestly shouldn't be.

GameZone's Jake Valentine: "A reboot may just be what the doctor ordered for the DOOM franchise. DOOM 3 released in 2004. That's ten years ago, so don't be too surprised if people have stopped caring about the game. The FPS genre has shunned its grandfathers in favor of Halo or Call of Duty."

I'm excited for Doom because how often do we get a Doom game?Looking forward to seeing how this one looks and plays!

I wasn't looking forward to it after doom3 disappointed me; but, with everything I'm hearing, the excitement for this new doom is coming back. I really want to see that quakecon footage.

I hope that footage gets leaked or officially published soon. From how the game is being described it sounds like the game is going back to it's roots.

I am excited b/c they r doing the one thing everyone has been afraid to do...go back to the roots despite the fear that gamers will hate it.

NO MORE health regean or reloading, fast paced brutal gorgeous action with all those weapons we loved.

And right now is the perfect time. Many younger gamers dont remember what it was like to play that way so it will seem new to them. I cant wait. Its perfect.

yea!....doom finally going back to the gameplay that made it great and with new-gen visuals... I'm with you - they need to be giving that quakecon footage a public release.

I'm looking forward toward it, though I'm skeptical now that they are being hush hush and refusing to only show people who went to Quakecon....Why not just show the world instead of being so quiet about it?

Nostalgia alone is making me excited, I mean come on it's Doom

Doom is going to be very different to the modern day shooters we have now, it's got a different set of game mechanics that I'm worried some reviewers just won't understand and give it bad reviews because they will inevitably compare it to Call of Duty or Battlefield.

I've already read some comments like "you can carry all the weapons all the time" and "there is no health re-gen" and also "the level design seems very linear". Those are features of Dooms game mechanics, you learnt the levels by weapon placement so you could stop your opponent using them on you. The levels were linear so you had to fight instead of running around in circles avoiding each other and there was no re-gen because it made you run for a medkit rather than hide and avoid your opponent.

This is what Doom was all about, in your face gladiatorial death matches not kill streak rewards, or camping in a dark corner with a sniper rifle it was non stop combat.

Nah,Wolfenstein reviewed well and it's in the same vein with DOOM.
