Xbox One functionality revealed so far is just the tip of the iceberg, former executive Marc Whitten says.
The Xbox 360 celebrates its 10th anniversary today, and former chief product officer Marc Whitten talks about its legacy, RRoD & More.
I'm playing through Gears of War 2 right now on XB1. Much, MUCH better game than 1. Excellent set pieces in the campaign and it's much smoother. The gameplay does feel a tad bit dated, though. coalition has to modern it somewhat. They need to make the triggers the sprint buttoms, the cover the convention bumper buttons, make it a tad more cinematic, and a few more changes and they're money. Loving BC so far can't wait for skate 3.
"important enough of a console that both playstation and xbox teams are making the argument that there boxes are the most “xbox 360++”
yup. That was the generation where the X360 really made online gaming a thing. I had mine for over a year before I went online for the first time with a 30 day trial. after that, I couldnt go back. Was like a whole new world of gaming. once upon a time we would have been happy playing 4 player split screen. But after I went online with R6:vegas, gears and eventually halo 3, and forza 2, there was no turning back for me.
To think I considered myself done with gaming back in 2004. I didnt expect the x360 to be such a great console. And playing the first mass effect for the first time was a special moment in gaming, ill never forget. Im amazed that MS did not buy bioware to this day./they certainly had the opportunity.
Aside from the early failure rates...360 is the best product MS ever produced. J Allard & team should've been involved with the X1 architecture/design /
inFamous: Second Son and Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes get discussed before we dive into GDC 2014 and Marc Whitten’s departure!
Engadget writes: "Based on our conversation with Whitten, it sounds like those Live fixes are coming sooner than later. Promised game streaming functionality, however, may not be coming as quickly. "This is not 100 percent," Whitten prefaced his statement with. "But my general strategy at E3 is to talk about things that are gonna happen from that E3 to the next E3. So, we are not yet to the next E3," he added with a smile. So, uh, before June then."
I'm assuming this will fix the very wonky and un-intuitive party system. Would be great to hear more details surrounding what the patch will entail.
I think twitch, ustream support on PS4 is a huge + over XB1. I thought XB1 was going to have that right away since they announced twitch partnership before Sony did. They probably may never have a real streaming functionality put in based off the architecture of the xb1. PS4 has dedicated resources for it, I cant imagine how bad the quality would be on xb1 streaming sub 1080p games at sub 720p quality streams.
Sounds like a tweaking rather than a tune up. All things in good time I suppose. I would like to be able to play 3d BluRay sometime soon.
want to "fix" the xbox one, just copy every thing from the 360.
old saying go's: if it's not broke don't fix it.
To be fair though I doubt any employee of any company would say.
"Meh maybe hold off buying our product right now it's not a great time to get it."
This is just standard PR talk, I expect Sony and Nintendo versions as well.
The X1 is already very impressive on the functionality front. Its getting better and better with every update. Cant wait for E3, and all the new games. I love my X1.
"So much for us was around, 'Hey, let's build this architecture that we could rev quickly, that we could add to, that was flexible, that would allow us to do more things and do more things quickly,'" he said.
Improve quickly is correct. They improve the system on what seems to be on the monthly basis now.
I wonder what will be in the summer, or in the big holiday update.
"You can't re-brand a personality by throwing in the word 'outgoing'", says a pragmatic poster.
Enjoying the hell out of my XB1 can't wait to see what's up next!
