Bungie on 'Destiny' single player: We'll encourage players to leave comfort zone

As online multiplayer continues to become the strong focus of many publishers and developers, single player experiences remain to be ones players still want, and Bungie is facing this with Destiny.

Recently, Bungie's David Dague talked about the support single players will find within Destiny, and said playing with friends is the best way to enjoy this game.

i haven't heard nothing about this game for awhile any new info is welcome, really looking forward to the beta as i can see myself just getting completely lost in this title

SITH3719d ago

Yeah it is definitely a game to get lost in. I am ignoring ESO for this game. It will be worth it because it is bungie, and no monthly subscription. I can handle micro transactions in a MMO if there are any which I am sure there is.

fenome3719d ago

This guys channel breaks down every single bit of news about this game. He's my go to source on info about this game:

Bungie have NEVER really shown much information. It has slowly leaked out from their various mail sacks. It is kinda frustrating, I got over it awhile ago.

I just want big revealing trailers showing off cool things.

Their gameplay reveal was the last most exciting thing.

MilkMan3719d ago

I think there losing me here. My preference is SP all the way, with occasional MP options. Not the other way around. I'm done with MP focused games, I've been pretty consistent with this entering this current gen and I feel very comfortable with that decision.

I hope they haven't lost sight of this.

Utalkin2me3719d ago

Then probably the game isn't for you then.

Shane Kim3719d ago

I feel the same way. MP only games reminds me of World of Warcraft, and World of Warcraft reminds me of waste of life.

BlackTar1873719d ago

been pretty consistent entering this gen? You mean the one that started 3 months ago?

MilkMan3719d ago (Edited 3719d ago )

Yes. Have you seen the plethora of MP games available already?
Its mind bogglin'

BlackTar1873719d ago

I actually Disagree. The amount of MP games is very little.

BF4,COD,KZ = Games heavily featured for mp

Single player
DR3,RYSE,KZ,Knack,Forza,Outla st, resogun etc.

I mean really there is a very limited supply of Shooter MP games.

I know some of the single player games have SP but i chose to not make that list. Reallythough you can count BF4 COD and KZ in the single player and MP cats so really no i don't get it. It's not mind boggling at all.

here i am waiting for Titanfall becasue of the very limited amount of competitive shooters on next gen systems. I sure as well wouldn't be playing bf4 anymore if the catalog was actually mind boggling huge.

MilkMan3718d ago

I saw on my console:

Games featured for MP offerings
COD, BF, Killzone, Warframe and Blacklight I believe there was another I might be wrong.

SP games
Ryse, DR3, Forza, Knack, Outlast, Resogun

Games with MP integrated into SP game:
Need for Speed

SP/MP
Sports, Assassin's Creed IV

Please bear in mind these are across both Microsoft and Sony platforms and we are mentioning indie as well as triple A offerings. Also bear in mind that Outlast, Don't Starve, Tomb Raider and Thief and Strider are all within this month.

When these systems came out, they were FPS heavy. So unless you liked that genre you basically watched the live feeds.

I'm writing this from memory so please forgive me if I missed something.

Spinal3718d ago (Edited 3718d ago )

You do know that this game was announced as an MMO to begin with? It was never a Singleplayer focused game EVER. Just like Halo never really was. I remember completing Halo 1 with my lil bro co-op we had a blast.

Bungie have always made Multiplayer games , they excel at that so Destiny is Online only. You cant play Destiny Offline I hope you know that.

That said. I love MMO's, im not really into Singleplayer games. Right now my most wanted games are firstly Diablo Reaper of Souls coming soon. And Titanfall played beta for both. They are just amazingly fun.

Destiny is a single player, and the multiplayer elements are used to disguise the always online DRM.

Ron_Danger3719d ago

Loosen the straps on that foil hat.

Outside_ofthe_Box3719d ago

If you have a problem with it then vote with your wallet.

Grave3719d ago

Destiny, the new title that actually is "game changing".

LAWSON723719d ago

Yet not even next gen only, lol

LAWSON723719d ago

I want to see the competitive multiplayer more than anything else for this game.

Destiny Made Over $160 Million In Microtransaction Revenue In Less Than 2 Years

Destiny has made over $160 million in MTX revenue, and these numbers only account the data from late 2017 to early 2019.

Sgt_Slaughter333d ago

That's extremely low for microtransactions, especially for a game that's essentially designed around it

LucasRuinedChildhood333d ago (Edited 333d ago )

This was back when the game wasn't free to play.

The figures are from November 2017 to February 2019 (1 year and 4 months).

Based on that projection, the MTX revenue for Destiny 2 likely would have been closer to ~$240m for 2 years.

Not sure if premium expansions are included in that figure either although ... I'd hope that they are though and that most of the revenue was for actual content like Forsaken.

People spend way too much money on cosmetics.

Rude-ro333d ago (Edited 333d ago )

Seasons($10 and just got bumped to $12) and dungeon keys($10 each, two a year) are through the eververse(micro transaction) store.
So for those two years, in order to play a season, you would pay through micro transactions.

Sonic1881333d ago (Edited 333d ago )

Bungie Marathon will be worse since it's designed around it as well

Kurt Russell332d ago

It makes me sad to agree... but at the same time I am looking forward to giving it a go. Destiny 2 is so far in, I find it difficult to figure out what I am meant to do first.

buffig333d ago

I think FIFA alone makes over $1bn a year from mtx

anast333d ago

FIFA promotes a worldwide sport. It should make more money than destiny.

CantThinkOfAUsername333d ago (Edited 333d ago )

Let's compare something similar. Apex Legends and its ridiculous $18/$40 skins make EA a billion each year.

z2g333d ago

For as much as ppl complain how much they hate microtransactions, they sure don’t act like it. No wonder they aren’t going anywhere.

spicelicka333d ago

By "people" you're referring to millions and millions of people. Obviously the ones complaining aren't necessarily the same as the ones spending all that money.

There's millions that purchase MTX and there's nothing we can do about it

I've been thinking about playing through D1 again before it goes away...

CobraKai484d ago

That’s the sad reality of a game like this. I bought it, invested lots of money, and it can go away at anytime. I still think this was more fun than 2.

jeromeface483d ago

prob because 2 is a grindfest slog

spoonard480d ago

That's the bummer of 'games as a service'.
