REVIEW OF THE YEAR: Sony's E3 Victory

That video games lack recognisable stars is a criticism the industry often faces, but for one night in June PlayStation US CEO Jack Tretton certainly felt like rock royalty.

As much as certain forum communities may swoon over the fact that Reggie Fils-Aime’s body is ready or about Shuhei Yoshida’s Antonio Banderas impression, Tretton is not used to such adulation from the community.

i would say MS handed SONY the victory more than anything else.

Victory ? I would hardly call it that. But I did like how they focused on MS and threw in the fact that' they were going to start charging for multiplayer. Sony had a bad E3 in terms of games and they basically just rode the wave of bad pr ms was getting......but we will see who will have the last laugh though. That grass isn't as green as it seems. That pr machine is smiling but the investors aren't.

And yet, you still can't admit that MS blunders were so great, that just saying that one wouldn't do them would endear Sony to most of the gaming nation?

Isn't such adulation a direct representation on how the community felt about such policies? After all, Sony hasn't even really had to put forth a lot of effort to sell it's system. All they're doing is what they've always done.

Sony just gave people what they wanted, and they are being rewarded for it.

I always thought a good product shud stand on its own merits rather going with the old: well at least were not as bad as the other guy excuse.

I agree. But the media itself wasn't exactly giving Sony a break due to their silence on the issue. The media, and us gamers wanted to know where Sony stood on such issues.

One could argue that they could have been clear about it before hand, but realistically, from a business standpoint, who wouldn't make that knowledge known when they had the most attention on them? I imagine if the roles were reversed, MS would have done the exact same thing. I know if I was pushing a console, I would as well. You just can't buy good PR like that.

Sony has been able to stand on it's own for quite a while. It sucks that they had to even spend time discussing the topic, but it's not really their fault that it was a topic in the first place. That fault lies solely on MS, because they are the ones that brought it to the forefront. Before MS reveal, most reasonable people thought there was no way they would try such a thing, myself included.
