Microsoft strikes back at Sony with their ad stating "Xbox One has the best games"

As the launch of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One draws near, the marketing is getting aggressive on both sides. Microsoft recently tweeted a new picture stating "Xbox One has the best games".

Wizziokid3827d ago

Depends on what you like really but I have to admit the launch does have a good verity.

For me though, in the long term, I think Sony have the better haul. Especially with the first-party devs like Naughty Dog working on titles.

Neonridr3827d ago

Not to mention a lot of the big exclusive XB1 titles show up on PC. So I can still get my fix of a few of them there (Titanfall for example).

Wizziokid3827d ago

Exactly that's where I'm happy to own a gaming PC because it means I don't really need an X1 apart from the games which they keep on console but for the most part It should be ok.

CerebralAssassin3827d ago

What other games will be on both pc and xb1? Not trolling. Just cant think of any.

xHeavYx3827d ago

MS may have the best games according to some people (it's an opinion after all) but let's wait until tonight's announcement before we discuss who has the best games.
I'm not worried though, Sony has always provided in the gaming department, while the competition buys exclusives and DLC

Pogmathoin3827d ago

That is Sonys strong point. But right now to talk about the long haul, that is pointless... who knows what will be done down the road. MS has invested heavily in new studios, and if they sell well, and they will, others will want a piece of that pie too. But that will not be enough for some... who will instinctively shout rubbish as a kneejerk reaction.

Neonridr3827d ago

@Cerebral - my other favorite MS IP Alan Wake showed up on PC (even though I played it on the 360), so an inevitable Alan Wake 2 may still appear on PC, who knows.

Titanfall is the only XB1 game I am really looking forward to though. Never been a huge fan of Forza (or racing games for that matter)..

cleft53827d ago

The best game claim is just an opinion thing. Dead Rising 3, Killer Instinct, and Forza 5 look like great games and Ryse looks pretty. The problem with their claim is that for a person like me, who disliked Dead rising 1 and 2, isn't a fan of racing games, and while KI was fun when I was a kid the new KI doesn't do much for me.

So for me the Xbox One doesn't have anything that would interest me right now. That's why I am buying a ps4. The ps4 has a lot of F2P games that I want to play and know are good, it has indie titles that I want to try, I am interested in Knack, and I think Killzone is a fun series. For me PS4 is easily the best choice but even that is just my opinion.

What isn't opinion is the fact that the ps4 is more powerful than the Xbox One. You really wouldn't expect that difference to show at the launch of these consoles, but the fact that it does is very telling. Going forward developers will learn how to make games for the Xbox One better, but they will also be learning how to make games for the PS4 better. So this gap we are seeing isn't going to go away. Microsoft can make opinion based appeals all they want, but it is the hard facts that matter.

Neonridr3827d ago

@cleft - your statement was valid and even levelheaded until you started up that last paragraph. Jesus, give it a rest.

Nobody denies that the system is more powerful than the XB1. But the 3DS takes a statement like that and spits in the face of the Vita everyday. It's the games that matter, and if the XB1 ends up with the better games then it will sell better. Likewise with the PS4.

Power helps, but it's hardly the deciding factor.

PoSTedUP3827d ago

looks like someone is happy with the berries they gathered... while sony is laughing in the kitchen as they are cooking up a Storm. oh look and my ps3 is still getting lots of love :)

abzdine3827d ago

cool Xbox, let's see what you've got next week and what you can do against tonight's reveals. and you guys better react!!

Death3827d ago

Both consoles will get better with time. The Xbox One being harder to develop for has more room for improvement. The gap will shrink as developers learn more techniques and the tool sets improve. With 1080p and 60fps being the goal, Sony is already closer to that realization. Microsoft has a little further to go.

VENOMACR12273826d ago

The best games is strictly opinion based. For me, I prefer multiplayer games and a lot of my friends have Xbox's, so I'm getting an X1. Uncharted, Last of Us, excellent top tier games, but I'm not huge on mostly single player driven games. Yes they have an online feature, but it's not like gears, halo, killzone, cod, BF, etc. Cross platform games, I prefer playing them through Xbox Live.

There's no doubt that Sony has excellent first party games, but we've yet to see the potential of Titanfall and Halo is down the road, hopefully a new Gears of War also.

Of course both companies will claim the best games. What else are they supposed to say? It's called marketing. Car companies take shots at each other also so what's the big deal? Both systems will have excellent games.

mikeslemonade3826d ago (Edited 3826d ago )

Neonridr

"Nobody denies that the system is more powerful than the XB1. But the 3DS takes a statement like that and spits in the face of the Vita everyday. It's the games that matter, and if the XB1 ends up with the better games then it will sell better. Likewise with the PS4."

Under hardly any circumstances is the PS4 vs X1, the same thing as 3DS and Vita. However if you do want to compare, the key elements on why the Nintendo handheld sells more is because it's cheaper and has more exclusives. And PS4 has both of those things in the bag.

Kryptix3826d ago

I admit, the PS4's launch line up is kinda lackluster since Drive Club got delayed and the Xbox One's shows more variety...but knowing Sony, I always expect them to bring their best in the generation later on and the PS3 proved this.

I think Sony's plan changed up and moved their early best games till 2014 with Drive Club, Infamous, and 1886...also PlanetSide 2 comes out next year for the PS4.

It's too early to declare a "winner" and I see good times and bad times with both Sony and Microsoft. It's going to be the one consistent with exclusives that will stand out more. Competition is always good, that's why both sides turned around and are trying their best though Microsoft has to do a lot more to make me change my mind about them.

@VENOMACR

Welcome back man, I thought I wrecked you 3 months ago?

http://n4g.com/news/1333916...

But it's cool you came back making sense now. We need that more on N4G.

slimeybrainboy3826d ago

This is funny, but it's not very smart. Say it after Drive Club was delayed and then it's a good little jab.

But to say it the day before Sony have a launch event in which games are very likely to be announced isnt the smartest.

opinska3826d ago

you won't get dead rising 3, forza 5, halo, ryse: son of rome, and tons of other.

user55757083826d ago

the funny part is that microsoft clearly bought up a few exclusives just for launch. wait and see years down the road how lacking they become in exclusive titles like they did with the 360 in the past few years. oh wait kinect titles count!...NO they dont

Boody-Bandit3826d ago (Edited 3826d ago )

MS rushing exclusives out the door does not = better games at launch? Yeah that's not delusional.

Their 4 top launch titles are Ryse, DR3, Killer Instinct and Forza 5 (prologue it was it should be called). ALL of them are being rushed.

KI developer interviews say it all. They are still working around the clock just to have (hopefully) 8 character ready for launch. 8 characters. Let that sink in. Less than the original 20 years ago and less modes to boot.

Ryse has changed direction 3 time and hardware once. This is a game that went from GOW competition to a Kinect game on rails to an X1 game that is has been worked on around the clock to make it more of a combat game vs one or 2 button presses than right to QTE game they showed at E3. It is not running at a stable 30fps.

DR3 not my type of game but okay graphics and not running at stable frame rates. Quite the opposite from reports. Some claim it runs pretty rough in some areas. Dead Rising 3 I'm not going to claim is rushed. Maybe it is what it is and they just need more experience with X1 hardware. But could they have pulled off a better performing game if they had more time?

Forza 5 (my favorite game on MS hardware and one of my favorite racing games made) 1/2 the tracks and 2/5ths the cars of Forza 4. Half the content of Forza 4. Again, let that sink in. No triple panel support, no backward compatibility with FFB wheels and the official wheel being made by Thrustmaster doesn't have a clutch and stand alone shifter ready for launch. This game is screaming WE NEED MORE TIME! I'm not alone on this. Yeah there are some die hard fans that want it regardless but there are just as many that are fed up with Turn 10. Funny how they have DLC cars ready for launch that will cost additional money. With a game that cut 300 cars and went from 25 tracks to 14 from Forza 4 to 5? This game should be $39.99 and I'm being kind. Either that or Turn 10 should give out all the DLC for free.

MS, I'm sorry, I'm being rude.
You were saying?

I mean seriously. MS of all companies, a company that all but turned their back on their core base to chase after Nintendo's base with Kinect, is going to talk about having the best games? Yeah MS you did a fantastic job the first few years with the 360 and games but then it nearly turn into the Sahara Desert. You talk the talk but you're not walking the walk when you're rushing games out the door.

Edit: Disagree but can you counter most of my points? What's that? You can't? Figured as much.

Docknoss3826d ago

Yep but you won't be playing those games on console so its not the same.

Last_Boss3826d ago (Edited 3826d ago )

Even though I'm grabbing a PS4 first, I really want to Try Killer Instinct. I wish NeatherRealm bought out the I.P, to incorporate it into MK.

ChrisW3826d ago

"[Also] show up on PC"

True... But how many people's PCs can actually handle any of those games at or better than the console version?

3826d ago
minimur123826d ago

Xbox one has the best games' this has been the marketing slogan for quite a while now, don't see why this has been picked up as a witty reply.

Anarki3826d ago

PS3 has the best games.

Death3826d ago

@Brutally,

Because you asked,

Microsoft has been in this gen longer and they are using more "dated" tech. Logic would dictate they have been developing the Xbox One longer, not rushed.

Killzone: http://www.metacritic.com/g...

Knack: http://www.metacritic.com/g...

I don't see any indication either of these is rushed, but neither is more than average so far. Maybe that will improve as more reviews come out, maybe not. If I had to pick, I'd rather have a better game that was "rushed" then a game that had all the time in the world but was simply ok. We will see how the reviews go next week when the Xbox releases, maybe they will be average there too. Either way, what is the point of calling Microsoft games rushed if the Sony games are uninspiring?

As for the list of killer Sony exclusives that have come out the last few years, what do we have? Uncharted. The Last of Us. Gran Turismo. Killzone. DCUO maybe? I'm sure there are more, but these are the core games that appeal to a broad range of gamers. It's not like Sony cranks out a great triple A game every couple months.

Anarki3826d ago

No one cares Microsoft, go hide in the basement.

Mister_Dawg3826d ago

Some XB1 games will appear on PC.
But being a PC gamer, I know fine well the majority of console games do not come to PC.
So the argument I'll just get a PS4 because I'll get the XB1 games on PC, doesn't hold much water.

andrewsqual3826d ago

And whatever Remedy are making too will be on PC.

DarkLordMalik3827d ago

Agreed. I think Microsoft is starting with a bang but lets see how long they keep bringing us these exclusives. They did the same with Xbox 360, launched it with exclusives and then abandoned it after a few years while Sony kept giving us exclusives. I mean the best exclusive by far on PS3 was "The Last of Us" and it was released this year. Not to mention games like Beyond, Puppeteer, Rain and GT 6 show that Sony never abandons their consoles.

Captain Qwark 93827d ago

not really sure why you have disagree's. what you stated here is a fact lol

ms started with gears, halo, forza, lost oddesy, banjo, blue dragon, enchanted arms, crackdown, chrome hounds, alan wake, too human, fable, halo wars, kameo, ninja gaiden 2, PDZ, viva pinata, etc....

most of those were 2005-2010. then they just stopped with new ones, brought us the same 4 ( halo, gears, fable, forza ) over and over again with a handful of kinect games nobody cares about and the occasional arcade game.

nukeitall3827d ago

Sony on PS4 like last generation on PS3 started slow, so take your pick.

Do you want games now, or games later.

Personally, I take launch games now on Xbox One. After all, after a while 3rd party games are a plenty so I have consistent new games the entire time instead of being back loaded.

It is early on, that the new consoles need games, when there are few.

Baka-akaB3827d ago (Edited 3827d ago )

everyone got games now . it's just a matter of how , and how many of a prefered type . But let's not act as if someone is going to deprive themselves from the multiplatform titles just because .

Captain Qwark 93827d ago

@nuke

idk about that, they have killzone know, infamous coming soon, w/e they announce tonight, driveclub in the spring, DCU online for ps4 if thats your thing, updated injustice, AC4, BF4 and COD too. there is plenty to play for now, plus the current gen is still going strong.

its also really obvious sony is doing what the other two failed to do, they are listening to the gaming community and hardcore fans and continuously delivering on what the people seem to be asking for. im a supporter of all systems and even up until this week was backing the X1 as my primary but it looks like sony is set to dominate this next gen., its hard to deny that at this point. if i didnt know any better, id say they actually have people researching on gaming websites and social media to see what the people want. i have a feeling games, games, and more games is their top priority and with that in mind, i dont think they will have a dry spell nearly as long as ps3 did.

Outside_ofthe_Box3827d ago (Edited 3827d ago )

lol

Qwark you are speaking to deaf ears.

He just wants to justify why exclusives only matter in the beginning and why we don't need them at the end.

He claims it's because 3 party games are plenty at the end of the life cycle, but the funny thing is there are plenty of 3 party titles coming to the XB1/PS4 within the first year alone too, BUT that STILL won't make him admit that there should be a steady stream exclusive games for a console throughout it's life cycle though. Why you ask? Because that would mean admitting the MS has under-delivered in that department in the later of half of the 360 which is something he doesn't want to acknowledge.

nukeitall3827d ago

@Captain Qwark 9:

Most of the games you mentioned aren't for me. Of Sony franchises I enjoyed are Uncharted and Last of Us i.e. Naughty Dog games. Third party games, I'm only interested in CoD. BF4 campaign looks interesting, but I burned myself really bad on BF3 campaign.

"if i didnt know any better, id say they actually have people researching on gaming websites and social media to see what the people want. i have a feeling games, games, and more games is their top priority and with that in mind, i dont think they will have a dry spell nearly as long as ps3 did."

I think what Sony really did was hire a great marketing company and fix the shortcomings of PS3.

From a next generation standpoint, the PS4 really doesn't push the bar. In many ways, the Wii was really the next generation console of it's time despite it's lacking in specification department.

This time around it is just more of the same.

@Outside_ofthe_Box:

"BUT that STILL won't make him admit that there should be a steady stream exclusive games for a console throughout it's life cycle though. Why you ask? Because that would mean admitting the MS has under-delivered in that department in the later of half of the 360 which is something he doesn't want to acknowledge."

It is pointless to discuss this, as if there are plenty of exclusives and none I want to play it wouldn't matter.

Point being, I don't care if they are exclusives or not. I only care if I have games I'm want to play and willing to buy.

MS strategy seems to work for me, and Sony's strategy means I'm waiting, and passing the PS4 pre-order to a family member instead until something tickles my fancy.

Kryptix3826d ago

@nukeitall

The thing about the games now or games later logic is that at the end of a console cycle...the hardware gets used to it's max potential. So if you get games now but not later, you'll rarely see what the console can truly create later on. The only games that showed the Xbox 360's true power was Halo 4, Forza 4, and Gears 3 & Judgement but the PS3 had Uncharted 3, God of War: Ascension, Beyond 2 Souls, The Last of Us, and more. (All after 2010)

PS4 might start out slow like the PS3, but Sony starts picking the pace, and Naughty Dog/Santa Monica still needs to present their games, both are top tier.

Pick what you like, but I'm going for the one that keeps promises when it comes to gaming...getting a PS4.

Outside_ofthe_Box3826d ago (Edited 3826d ago )

@nukeitall

***"It is pointless to discuss this, as if there are plenty of exclusives and none I want to play it wouldn't matter.

Point being, I don't care if they are exclusives or not. I only care if I have games I'm want to play and willing to buy."***

Ok then. Why not just say that then. Why try to act and pretend as if having more games in the beginning as opposed to the middle or end of the life cycle is any better when in actuality it all the depends if the games appeal to you or not.

You say Sony strategy means you're waiting, but how? You just said it all depends if the games appeal to you are not. If lets say Sony had stacked the PS4's launch line up with KZ, Knack, Infamous, Drive Club, Deep Down, and The Order 1886 all being available at launch it wouldn't have made a difference to you since none of the games appeal to you right? So it has little to do with their "strategy" and it's not that "new consoles need games early on, when there are few" it's just that none of the games revealed so far appeal to you while on the other hand, the XB1 has plenty of revealed titles that do in fact appeal to you.

solidjun53825d ago

ms has more launch first party games and thats an advantage...but the quality of these games remain to be seen. just as sony has had some bad reviews id expect ms to have then...but simply because launch games always get bad reviews. down the road hell even as soon as 2014 sony has a better future as far as upcoming games are concerned. alot of top quality devs have yet to even announce their games as well. we know ms has halo5 and titan and im sure they will be great but both being fps takes away some depth.
we know sony will have better multiplats also...to have more launch games is a win for ms not for gamers. gamers play for the generation and considering how ms treated the xbox original and xbox 360 in their last years id expect them to do the same to the x1. time will tell though i got my money on sony in the long run.

solidt123827d ago

If you count day 1 downloadable games then PS4 has more games day 1

Bigpappy3827d ago (Edited 3827d ago )

Well M$ is saying they have the best games, not the most.

I think we should wait on the reviews to see if the media agreed, because those will be used as the grading standard by people on both sides.

M$ had been making that claim for a while though. Way before the reviews.

AngelicIceDiamond3827d ago

I thought DL games don't count? At least that's what Sony fans lead us to believe the past couple of years.

pyramidshead3827d ago (Edited 3827d ago )

Not to mention free to plays.

I've seen some recent articles saying MS is working on some Free to plays too in their new studios, but seeing as indies and f2p games don't count as games anymore judging from these comment sections in the past then I guess they'll be released as duds.

.....but of course that won't happen I think we'll see a sudden change of heart with some people. ;).

beerzombie3826d ago

@solidt12; you don't count any games at the end of MS-360 cycle and they have a ton of great downloadable games that are great on Xbox live. Sony fan boys only seam to give credit when it matters to them and not reality.

Until next year........

And then ND will wipe the smug looks of everyone's faces....even their own.

Mr-Dude3827d ago (Edited 3827d ago )

The problem with RYSE is that it's just a good looking game. Crytek is very good at that, I played RYSE and found it boring but that's mine opinion. Some sites like eurogamer are reporting that RYSE is boring also, others like it, just like Killzone...

pyramidshead3827d ago

Polysoft will rate it high thats for damned sure, but I'm not sure how well it's going to do with the rest.

It seems like it could go the killzone route and be nice to look at but apparently lack in some areas.

avengers19783827d ago

I wonder what will happen if we bring this topic up next year at this exact same date?

McScroggz3827d ago

Other than Forza, I don't expect any of Microsoft's launch exclusives to be that well received either. Ryse could very get the same scores as Knack, Dead Rising 3 will likely sit around the high 70's, I don't even know who reviewers will approach Killer Instinct.

I do hope Spark lives up to its promise though.

GarrusVakarian3827d ago (Edited 3827d ago )

I actually think RYSE will be rated very well....mainly from its visuals and story. Forza is Forza so that's going to get good scores. DR3 will get mixed, average around a 7 in my opinion.

But MS shouldn't be so quick to gloat (or maybe they should seeing as they haven't been doing well with exclusives since 2010). 2014 is going to be a very good year for PS4 and tonight we will get some juicy reveals hopefully.

It just doesn't make sense to me to gloat you have the best games when your main competitor is KNOWN for its dedication and focus for pumping out quality exclusive titles.

nukeitall3827d ago

I think, since there is little hype and downright hostile towards Ryse it might surprise. It might be a sleeper hit, based on the positive previews.

That said, most excited for Titanfalls, Quantum Break, Project Spark and Sunset Overdrive.

Baka-akaB3827d ago (Edited 3827d ago )

Dunno , call it my bias showing , but i dont expect nearly half the same nitpicking for some of the XB1 launch games . i expect mostly positive press for bad and good reasons alike .

The hostility was mostly in comments , and a few fanboy blogs , not really the common press and mainstream gaming press .

Just look at cod , it will get passes against anything else being nitpicked for similar or lesser flaws (whatever the platform)

McScroggz3827d ago

@Baka-akaB I get what you're saying, but to be fair Call of Duty: Ghosts is sitting at a 74 on metacritic. I'm sure some would like to see it closer to 30, but recently reviewers seem to be cracking down on scores.

For instance, I think the biggest reason Killzone: Shadow Fall has gotten such mixed reviews is because its the showpiece game for the PS4 and it doesn't do anything "next gen." I've played the other three Killzone games, and the story has always been hammy with interesting themes that have ultimately been underdeveloped. Still, KZ2 has a 91 rating on metacritic and KZ3 is sitting at 84. Unless the multiplayer is really lacking, I'm confident that KZ:SF will be the best entry in the series.

My guess for Xbox One review scores:

Crimson Dragon - 68
Dead Rising 3 - 79
Forza 5 - 87
Killer Instinct - 77
LocoCycle - 72
Ryse - 71
Project Spark - 83

Those who say msbisnt investing in games this time around are just plain silly..ms has invested major box into their old studios, formed new studios, been hiring great talent and also securing third party exclusives..if rumors are true then also we should be expecting some major announcments frm ms 1st party studio in japan and also third party dev exclusives too ...many ms 1st party titles are still yet to be revealed and already people claim ms has nothing more...its crazy how people reason..has anyone seen the probable xbx one titles coming out next year?(kinect sports, sunset overdrive, halo5, quantum break, fable legends and black tusks ip)..ms post launch line up is even better than the its launch line up..and they are yet to announce more...ms isnt in to loose..they are in to fight for the top spot and if anything it seems ms has realised the importance of 1st party ips...not saying sony wont come out too with their great titles too..i know ssm, nd and sony japans games will be a blast to play but its too soon to judge and declare a winner..both companys will fight it out the best way they can....imo and from what i have noticed to entice devs this gen sony will rely less on cash but more on loyalty and old relationships with major devs..while ms will might rely less on relationships with devs but majorly on cash...its my opinion though...lets just keep our fingers crossed and enjoy the show

If you wanna kill bunch of Helghast, PS4 has it.

If you wanna destroy MAWLR's, PS4 has it

The all Titan's from Titanfall can't stand against MAWLR.

solar3827d ago

i do not like MS. i do not like Windows. I do not own a 360, or will ever buy a Xbox One. but Titanfall is their killer IP. once it hits, and the word goes around to the casual console gamers about who made Titanfall, it will sell a lot of Xbox One's.

solar3826d ago

Mr. Chozen

i plan on buying it for PC. but Titanfall really does have the potential to bring many people to the Xbox One.

MRMagoo1233826d ago

I think it would have the potential IF it wasnt coming to the 360 and PC, thats the problem, you dont need to upgrade your pc for a game running on source and you dont need to upgrade the 360 because it will be on that as well, either way you look at it you are saving $500.

quenomamen3827d ago

And the games will get better as the Devs learn how to use more of its power.

turgore3826d ago

Eddie201013826d ago

Who the hell know's that. There's no reviews for exclusive games and there third party games are going to be at most the same or less than the PS4 games. From previews of the launch games for Xbox One there is nothing to get excited about.

Microsoft may be the only one's saying that after launch.

There's a whole generation ahead of us no one can say whose got the best games yet.

frostypants3826d ago

The problem with Microsoft has always been great exclusives in the first year, followed by a barren wasteland of crap.

Edface3826d ago

"Xbox One has the best games."

The worst way to support this claim is to show a picture of Ryse, surely?

scott1823826d ago

Honestly, I can see x1's launch games being better overall. That's not the only reason to buy a console, because there is no doubt in my mind that Sony's first party devs can put out the top games in the future. It just appears to me that the x1 has the top quality launch titles, however the reviews will show us if they really are. I'm not trying to take anything away from Killzone sf though, it still looks fantastic to me.

KyoSiegfried863826d ago

As a multiplatform player, there's a thing I really like. If you sum the two line-up you have a very strong variety of real next-gen titles (not including cross gen of course). Xbox one has a fighter, an action, an horror, a racing, which PS4 doesn't have (Driveclub is delayed, so it doesn't count in the launch line up), while PS4 has a platform and a next gen shooter which Xbox one doesn't have.
The only problem I have is that I love RPGs (both western and japanese) lol.

Most places are saying you could beat ryse within 10 hours, and it's a single player based game. Based on what I'm hearing, ryse should have a lower rating than Killzone.

Back-to-Back3826d ago

"XBOX One has the best games.........if you don't mind 720p and 30fps or less."

Fixed

BTBuck13826d ago (Edited 3826d ago )

The Agree vs Disagree ratio here in your post ^ I bet will mirror what we'll see in console sales by the end of this generation... Sony is going to run away with this thing if they continue this path of greatness their on.

x5exotic3826d ago

Let's see:

God of War ripoff without the gameplay
Some generic shooters

Xbone?
Xb none.

WiiUsauce3826d ago

Knack 49 on metacritic, killzone 3 74. Sony does not have the better exclusives. Forza 5, Ryse, Dead Rising 3, nd Killer Instict all look much better.

+ Show (22) more repliesLast reply 3825d ago
xPhearR3dx3827d ago

They should rephrase that to "Xbox One has the best launch games". That would be accurate. Forza has stood it's ground and always had a 90+ Meta, so it's a killer app for sure. Ryse is going to be iffy. Dead Rising 3 is going to be a shit ton of fun despite some of the frame rate issues. And if you're into fighting games, you'll have Killer Instinct to play.

However, MS has proven past gen to start with great exclusives and pump them out, then quickly fall off and have nothing to show. So I don't mind waiting a little bit longer for killer apps to hit the PS4, at least I know in the long run I'll be taken care of.

GarrusVakarian3827d ago (Edited 3827d ago )

They should rephrase that to "Xbox One has the best launch games"

My thoughts exactly. ND's next game announcement will be soon. Infamous SS, Driveclub and The order 1886 are all coming next year too.

nukeitall3827d ago

Has Sony stated that those games will release in 2014?

Last generation Sony promised plenty of games like Agent and Guardian, that never saw the light of day.

Next year, MS has Titanfalls, and no set date, but they teased Quantum Break and Sunset Overdrive among many others.

I think MS consistently make sure there is new content coming, either from first party, second party or third party. Whereas Sony back loads all their games, meaning poor showing at launch, then bulk of games releases towards end of console cycle when there are far too many games released from third party anyhow.

GarrusVakarian3827d ago (Edited 3827d ago )

@ Nuketail

Yeah, Infamous SS, Driveclub and The Order 1886 are out next year.

This year alone i bet PS3 has had more 1st party exclusives than the 360 has since it shifted its focus onto kinect in 2010.

christocolus3827d ago

@nuke

Dont forget kinect sports rivals, fable legends and halo5...and also remember that ms osaka ,soho, lift, rare ,lionhead 343 and black tusk still have unannounced projects in the works..

JeffGUNZ3827d ago

I'm just confused. Really, launch games are all we have to play, so why would it matter if they changed the name? Also, MS did not invest over a billion dollars into their studios for fun, they did it to pump out 1st party exclusives. I think we won't know who has the best games for several years. Let the consoles release and make it through the year, then we can start examining them closer.

I_am_Batman3827d ago

For me PS4 has the much better launch lineup. Killer Instinct is the only launch game I want on X1. Forza is probably a really good game but I'm not a racing gamer. DR3 looks completely dumb to me (no disrespect to DR fans). Ryse is visually stunning but they didn't show enough single player to convince me (I wouldn't play the multiplayer for long). The Kinect games look horrible to me.

I'm more interessted in Quantum Break, Project Spark, Below and Sunset Overdrive but they aren't launch games.

Back-to-Back3826d ago

Forza 5 is basically forza 4 with half the content. Seriously wtf is up with the number of cars and tracks. I bet they cut content to sell as dlc.

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 3826d ago
Kayant3827d ago (Edited 3827d ago )

Nope. I don't agree with that PS4 games are more appealing to me.

Only XB1 launch games I would play is DR3 & Ryse. Not saying to rest aren't good but they aren't my cup of tea.
That also includes their launch window lineup.

CerebralAssassin3827d ago

All the good games are on both systems anyway. Knack sucks based on the demo. Killzone has never been a good game to me. Doesnt leave much to play exclusive to ps4 at launch. Infamous being released next year really sucks.

Kayant3827d ago

If I was getting a PS4 launch I would also be playing F2P games like warframe/warthunder also which I would like to play more than some XB1's exclusives.

xDHAV0K24x3827d ago

KZ was NEVER a system seller and that's a fact. I would still give Knack a try if someone has it though. XB1. Day 1

DCfan3826d ago

Dat pre-baked everything, with no day/night cycles, no proper lighting, oh, and you have to be online to achieve the 1080p LOL

JeffGUNZ3827d ago

KZ (which is mid 70's on metacrtic) and knack (which is in the 50's on metacritic) vs. Froza 5, Ryse, and Dead Rising 3....Hmmmm, who has the best launch lineup?

MegaRay3827d ago

Well they didnt said launch games, we all know which console would get better support post launch

MRMagoo1233826d ago

mid 70s is a good game , mid 50s is an average game maybe a great game if you love the genre, so i dont get your point, what will you think of Ryse and DR3 when it gets the same kind of scores ?

P_Bomb3826d ago (Edited 3826d ago )

@Jeff
Well, it depends. Dead Rising has never lit the world on fire, and never passed the sales or scores of KZ2 (91%).

From metacritic:
DeadRising 360 = 85%
DeadRising Wii = 61%
DeadRising 2 Case Zero = 79%
DeadRising 2 Case West = 74%
DeadRising 2 = 79%
DeadRising Off the Record = 72%

The hype on DeadRising3 has been a bit generous imo. Especially in a post Walking Dead/TLOU/DeadIsland/State of Decay world.

Hicken3826d ago

Yes, Jeff, let's toss out review scores for games on one platform(and those reviews are half crap, anyway), and compare them to the games on another platform... with NO reviews.

Makes PERFECT sense.

Microsoft Closes Redfall Developer Arkane Austin, Hi-Fi Rush Developer Tango Gameworks, and More

Microsoft has closed a number of Bethesda studios, including Redfall maker Arkane Austin, Hi-Fi Rush developer Tango Gameworks, and more in devastating cuts at Bethesda, IGN can confirm.

Moegooner1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

Hi-Fi Rush studio??? Seriously?? Goes to show quality matters lil to MS.

Worst gen ever. All big 3 battling are for who sucks the most. They just keep one upping one another.

-Foxtrot42m ago

This does feel like a “quick Sony is getting shit on for Helldivers, let’s announce it now to minimise impact”

thesoftware73032m ago

That is silly. Let's say there is some weird conspiracy. This announcement would effectively take ALL the attention away from the HD2 situation, especially since there is no longer an HD2 situation. I don't think anything will minimize this impact.

Tacoboto24m ago

... so they announce it on a Tuesday? 36 hours after Sony cleared up everything?

You people care more about the next conspiracy than anything else.

Nevermind that Sony followed the golden rule of minimizing impact by announcing horrible news on a Friday.

Eonjay23m ago

The constant weekly weird Sony drama is part of the industry's problem. Everyone else feels they can get away with murder. Also, what is the point of spending all that money if you just start shutting studios down. And... Redfall wasn't Arkane's fought. Microsoft new the shape the game was in but needed something for GamePass after a whole year of no releases into the service. Them taking it out on Arkane seems really disingenuous and distasteful. And WTF did Tango do? Didn't Todd just release a statement saying how he would never retire. Fire his ass.

romulus2318m ago

Well if that was the reason for the timing it didn't work.

10/10 deflection, the ol' Sony too deflect...

Let's not discuss the fact that PlayStations struggles have largely been caused by the fact that game pass has reshaped how consumers spend causing them to spend less as they play what is on subscriptions and don't buy games as much because they either have become subscription gamers or they fear the game will come to a subscription so they don't buy things.

And it's not just PlayStation, the whole industry has been effected, many big studios are struggling across the board to match sales targets from pre-game pass releases which is especially apparent in things like sequels.

Heck the best example was Microsoft's own Starfield which should have easily blasted past 10m sales by the end of 2023 going by sales of similar Bethesda games yet was only able to achieve 3m which of course was almost entirely on Steam.

Moegooner29m ago

Or maybe it's because Sony hasn't released multiple worthwhile SP games like they normally do each gen and the ones they did released actually sold well.

Layoffs aren't because studios are struggling, but because major publishers want to maximise profit gains.

Profchaos26m ago(Edited 24m ago)

Absolutely it's a service that's changed the way we view and consume games overall for the worse games have little value when they are part of a sub and become disposable doubly so if they are a day 1 freebie often it's the kiss of death for a game to be day 1 on gamepass as PlayStation players look at it like why do I have to pay 60 dollars for back 4 blood, payday 3 or outriders it'll be on PS plus soon enough and funny enough those games always fail to meet expectations sales are poor and longevity is poor.

When I see a game get a day 1 tag outside of first party my first thought is always something is wrong with it and it can't stand on its own feet so the publisher has made a deal to recoup development cost.

Even first party games have dropped in quality noticeably so since gamepass with gears 5 being the only good release I can think of since gamepass started

Nitrowolf215m ago(Edited 14m ago)

This is what people online want. They just don't know or understand it. So many have warned about consolidation, and exactly what they have fear has been happening

This isn't the end, expect more bought out studios to be closed in the next few years

shadowT1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

Tango Gameworks and Arkane?

RaidenBlack30m ago

Arkane Austin (Prey developer)
Not Arkane Lyon ( Dishonored developer)

Einhander19721h ago(Edited 1h ago)

Well xbox fans you got what you asked for... and honestly deserved...

It was so easily predictable that game pass was never going to be able to support all these studios.

If Microsoft can't win they are going to burn it all to the ground...

Countdown to Phil Spencer telling us "it's better for the gamers this way" yet again.

Relientk7756m ago

This is beyond wrong. Like wtf!? Especially Tango Gameworks with Hi-Fi Rush. I've heard nothing but good things about that game. Just because Arkane Austin screwed up one game release doesn't mean you need to close them. It sounds like they were forced to do a multiplayer game when they're a single player studio. They could have made a Prey 2 or some other game next.

Just wow awful news.

Einhander197232m ago

Apparently PlayStation owners didn't buy enough copies of Hi-Fi Rush...

romulus2313m ago

"Xbox says Hi-Fi Rush was a success "in all key measurements" amid rumors of poor sales. Following rumors that Tango Gameworks' Hi-Fish Rush didn't meet sales expectations, Xbox marketing VP Aaron Greenburg is defending the "break out hit" as a success by all metrics."

According to Aaron Greenburg it was a success so they shouldn't have even needed PlayStation owners to buy it. That being said, I bought it and really enjoyed it, it's a great game. Shame MS closed them down.

RpgSama1m ago

@Romulus23

All lies by the Green Bug, that just means that a lot of people fired bullets or whatever in the game, that's the key measurements they care to share.

Tango did NOT deserve to be closed down, they have not released a single bad game.

CrashMania29m ago

I can only imagine the little amount of revenue both games generated, sent straight to gamepass and excluded from the largest current gen console userbase. Not to say both games would have done well if they were on PS5 too, but you heavily damage to a games revenue when you put it on a stagnating sub service for a poorly selling console, can't really see people going out in droves to sub to GP to play this.

RaidenBlack27m ago

Yea Austin made one of the most creative game of last gen with Prey and were forced to take risk with Redfall and now the whole studio is being closed.

Aphrodia4m ago

Yes, that Tango gameworks/ Hi-Fi closure was an eye opener for me as well. Neither played it nor was interested in it myself but all I heard was everyone acting like it was the second coming of guitar hero or something.

I don't know what else to say other than modern gaming is an overwhelming sea of mediocrity and there's not enough voices of reason speaking up and saying that most games made these days are just not very good.

Can't wait to see the usual try spin and play this down. So much for the heroic MS and Phil saving these studios eh.

Eonjay29m ago

By the end of the day IGN will be talking about how this is right for the industry. Don't worry, Microsoft's PR is making the call now.

PrinceOfAnger24m ago

Not a big deal only hi fi rush was good

Sony has closed
Manchester studio
Japan studio
Pixel opus
London studio
Ready At Dawn ...

RupeeHoarder20m ago

The difference being Sony has a large group of other studios that have done something positive. Microsoft just closed the studio to the only good game they released in the past year (Hi-Fi Rush).

CrashMania11m ago

They all suck as well of course. But MS spent 10s of billions on these publishers for mass consolidation, every made a song and dance about how MS would save them, using their endless Windows, 365 and Azure money to keep them open forever and how Phil was some hero.

Nothing is safe unless it makes money, even for MS.

romulus237m ago

It is a big deal.

Microsoft has closed
Fasa Studios
Digital Anvil
Ensemble
Lionhead Studios
Press Play
Arkane Austin
Tango Gameworks

Einhander19720m ago

Wow how far back do you want to go back.

Lionhead Studios -- Fable -- Closed
Aces Game Studio — Microsoft Flight Simulator series — Closed
BigPark — Kinect Joy Ride, Kinect Sports: Season Two, Joy Ride Turbo — Consolidated
Carbonated Games — Closed
Digital Anvil — Brute Force, Freelancer — Consolidated[114]
Ensemble Studios — Age of Empires series, Age of Mythology series, Halo Wars — Closed
FASA Studio — MechWarrior series, Shadowrun, Crimson Skies series — Closed
Good Science Studio — Kinect Adventures, Kinect Fun Labs, Kinect Star Wars — Consolidated
Hired Gun — Halo 2 PC port — Consolidated[115]
Lionhead Studios — Fable series, Black & White series — Closed
Microsoft Studios Japan — Phantom Dust — Closed
Microsoft Studios Victoria — Closed
Press Play — Max: The Curse of Brotherhood, Kalimba — Closed
Team Dakota — Project Spark — Consolidated
Xbox Entertainment Studios — Closed
Xbox Live Productions — Consolidated
Lift London — Removed from Microsoft's games business
Access Software/Salt Lake Games Studio/Indie Games
Twisted Pixel Games
WingNut Interactive

And some of those PlayStation studios were merged not closed, most of the UK studios were folded into each other.

Japan Studio was renamed to Asobi not closed, aAsobi was an internal team of Japan Studio the "closure" and the press misinformed people about was more or less a name change, the studio is in the same building and when the change happened less than 5 people mostly leadership positions chose to leave the studio to form Bokeh Studio, which still works closely with Sony.

And even if your deflection cstood on it's own, Micrsoft spent 3 Billion 3 years ago also to the date to buy Zenimax and has already closed 2 of it's biggest studios and decimated Zenimax's support studio structure.

It's no wonder Todd Howard was talking about "more frequent releases" and letting other studios make their IP's games. The days of big budget huge Bethesda games is over...

In fact sadly Microsoft has ushered in the end of big budget gaming as we know it with their obviously unsustainable subscription industry change.

Microsoft Survey Asks About Handheld

This is definitely happening, I just hope they have 2 versions one with a much bigger screen.

I'll be happy with this, and a PC console hybrid that rivals anything we have power wise

Number1TailzFan6d ago

The problem with bigger devices is playing them on your side in bed, Vita and before that was fine. Since the Switch you gotta have a gooseneck holder & controllers detached so you can lie down holding them, or your arm will quickly get tired.

crazyCoconuts5d ago

A Xbox version of Logitech G-Cloud?
I mean, why bother? Not like the G cloud is flying off shelves and what would Xbox add to make it better?
They're surely not going to create bespoke architecture here and there are already a few Windows handhelds out there. I have little confidence in their ability to put together an attractive UI in the way Steam did. So I doubt anything will come from this.

KicksnSnares7d ago

Day One buy for me if they'll make a dedicated handheld device.

darthv726d ago

i have that logitech g-cloud. Its a sweet little piece of kit. I like that it can also install games from the play store unlike the other android based handheld.

mudakoshaka6d ago

It sure is! Don't understand why you get the down-votes. Whoever does not like the G Cloud must have been dropped down a well, head first, when they were of a younger age.

PassNextquestion6d ago

I wonder if Microsoft will perform better in Japan if they do actually make a handheld since everyone says handheld and mobile are king over there.

TiredGamer6d ago

This looks like the future of the game industry... all three platforms with a handheld option.

I wonder if the Playstation Portal is a technology test-bed/prototype for a future Playstation handheld?

rlow16d ago (Edited 6d ago )

It’s a possibility but I can’t help but think would that be the best way to go about it? Though it would give you data on how much it is used and game type. It’s still not a true portable device and so people approach it differently. I think that data on phones, tablets, and of course the competition would give a better indication.

But I really think if Sony is considering a new PSP that could play ps5 games, now would be the time to dive in. Honestly, if they do this, it would be huge.

Traecy6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

Doubt if Sony PS wants to support a new handheld with first party games. Something they lacked with the Vita. What they should do is have a handheld that is like the PS Portal which can play all games but play those games on the go as well as at home. Something like that is a better investment.

TiredGamer6d ago

Agreed that you will probably never see a separate line of games specifically for the handheld (a la PSP or PSVita). The modern economics and expectations of game development make that cost prohibitive. What makes more sense is if the full-fat game on PS5 or PS6 has a special "handheld" profile that is automatically optimized for the lower spec handheld. There would be some significant compromises compared to the bigger console variant, but it would be the same game overall and would only require a single purchase.... somewhat what the Switch does with a lower resolution when playing handheld versus docked.
