Gamasutra: "With Sony planning to implement its PlayStation Plus subscription service heavily into the upcoming PlayStation 4 console, research firm IHS Electronics and Media has forecasted that the company will be generating over a billion dollars a year from the service by 2017."
MCV:
Stat trackers IHS has shown its latest market data ahead of next week’s E3 - revealing that $92bn will be spent on games this year.
That is higher than music ($18bn) and movies ($62bn) combined.
The latest estimates from the firm also reveals that 80 per cent of this revenue will come from digital means - which just goes to show how important digital numbers are in terms of the overall health of the games market.
Leviathyn writes: "A new report produced by IHS Technology and App Annie has revealed global trends in the digital games on mobile and stationary platforms over 2012-2013.
. . .
IHS notes that the new PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles will drive future growth in digital games sales. The market research firm forecast that “41% of games spending on these devices will be digital by 2017 including service subscriptions to Xbox Live Gold and PS Plus. . . Up from 24% in 2013.”"
Analysts have weighed-in on Nintendo’s 2DS announcement today, and while it seems to make commercial sense for the younger market, the firm still lacks a compelling games lineup, and mobile will still continue to cannibalize the portable market.
Wow! I should get out of the PS Vita threads some more...
How did this thing happen in a matter of hours??????
That design??? lost for words!!!
I'll be laughing when people start complaining their 2DS has scratches and marks all over it while my 3DS XL doesn't have a single stain on it. No folding is gonna ruin this system.
Cloud game save and auto update for the win.

Playstation brand will be fine there's a huge benefit to having PS Plus right now.... Sony will also most likely sell a ton more consoles from the beginning this time around and for X1 sold Microsoft has to pay Sony royalties for the use of the Blu Ray disc drive (Look it up). I'm just surprised Microsoft didn't go with the awsome HD DVD Drive this time (Lol). Sony should be rolling around in money this time around, Now IF they can convince us to buy the Vita.... Mmmmmm Micro SD card adapters would help convince me?!
