Funny. I cam late to GoW and ended playing the HD Collection like you and LOVED IT! How can that many amazing puzzles, action set pieces and epic boss battles ever be considered boring? Maybe you just weren't in the mood for playing that kind of title? At first play, I HATED Red Dead Redemption, HATED it. Didn't play it for like 6 months, came back to it and started a new game and Loved it!

Cod4 MW though was a hard pill to swallow, it just seemed a little to close to home in terms of current events, it really felt like American -the Good Guys Propaganda. Loved the MP but SP just pinched that nerve.

square square circle X X Triangle XX square square spamming is boring

You know what? You don't have to be a total killjoy and downplay the game. There's plenty of different combos, evasive maneuvers and magic powers to use in the game, aside from the puzzles, sounds, graphics, bosses, story, and epic scale of it all.

GoW games don't get great reviews because of "spamming".

God of War's combat might be shallow but everybody doesn't seem to know that it lets you do combos easily. Very easily you can switch weapons and continue your combo, not all H&S games do that

Tontus3917d ago

God of War's combat isn't even shallow though, I believe it is the only game to get the combat perfectly balanced where it's not too complicated (Japanese games) or too shallow like Enslaved for e.g.

It's accessible and so it's easy to learn but if you take the time & effort to master the combat system it's very deep too, look here: http://www.youtube.com/watc...

The guy who wrote the article sounds like a monumental twat, they obviously didn't even give God of War a chance, to be honest it soeunds like they didn't play it for more than 10 minutes as they neglected to mention the story, music, magic, bosses, environments, puzzles, enemies or anything. And it's not full of QTEs you only have to use them to finish boss fights, they are optional during standard fights.

It's no more repetitive than any other game from a beloved series and the main trilogy is one of the most acclaimed in gaming history. It's not an unpopular opinion to not like GoW, it's a wrong one. Not everyone has to love it but everyone should appreciate it's high quality and the fact it has kept its dying genre alive.

GoW, I played the multiplayer and it was just ehh. It didn't suck, but I didn't get all the hype.

Too much brown.

The human eye can see over 5 million colors.

They used no where close to that. The "Art Style", if you can call it that, was lazy at best.

It can't be that realistic when I go outside and literally don't see much brown, I see tons of other colors, but then play GoW and it's brown everywhere as if that is somehow realistic.

It's like people have forgotten how colorful the real world is.

xxBiG_BoSSxx3917d ago

wow. if that's what you were pressing while playing God of War then I can see why you'd dislike it.

It must be pretty hard to get into a game when you're jumping in the middle of combos.

all games are basically "square square circle X X Triangle XX square square"
they are called buttons.

the first god of war pales in comparison to 2 and 3 and that's saying somthing because GOW was an amazing game. Im sure QTE's have been around before GoW but this was probably the first game that I played that both had them and made cinematic events out of them. You got to appreciate games from the time period they came from or not play them at all.

Bioshock 2 is better in almost every way, (graphics, gameplay, controls,) but the first is a better game --> if we are comparing two art pieces.

MW was an excellent videogame. They messed up Spec Ops big time, but aside from this it was a huge step in the right direction initially. Most notably, at launch it seemed to come from a very cohesive creative vision that was felt across gameplay, to story to art style/visual direction. It was also very notably written by prominent ex-Naughty Dog guys that quit almost immediately before release.

That COMPLETELY dissolved through post-launch content and the full pivot to a "cross-mode" narrative that completely obliterated the cohesion in overall story direction. Warzone then "became" the new face of Call of Duty and the franchise completely removed itself from anything remotely creatively "good". It is a pure money machine, so I kinda get why they're doing it....but I personally completely lost interest.

I would love to see Infinity Ward move off CoD and get to make their own product with full control. They clearly have some massive talent in their ranks but it's perverted by Activision's corporate interests.
