No in those massive battles most PC's have to go into that view so their graphics cards don't melt. But you can completely zoom in and the game looks amazing.

You can Zoom in but you will not be as efficient as a Zoomed out player who is taking in more data.

Zoomed in has great graphics and detail but Zoomed out has the benefit of more information and view distances.

Loosing $9k is a lot of hard work and time. His faction is to blame as that ship should have been better protected.

Yeah. I seem to recall years ago they compared the economy of Eve and some other MMORPGs to the economy of some small countries. Doesn't mean people were spending real money, but it does have a real world value.

It does and some people would actually spend that amount of real life money on it. I'm a miner so I dont go after super awesome ships, but I would be very pissed if I would lose my mining ship. I have seen some very valuable ships destroyed from my corp while they protected us mining.

The person did not pay $9,000 dollars per se, they just so happened to have an item worth $9,000 dollars. This is because the in game currency has a real world equivalency value. With that being said, it's entirely possible that their loss might have been far greater, since they lost a LOT of time invested.

Either or, losing a ship worth $9,000 dollars sounds better than "Player loses one of the rarest ships in the game"

Didn't people on EVE online pay $30,000+ before? Thought people used to spend alot more money on that game.

Saying that, $9000 isn't too much. My friend used to sell MMO characters/avatars for $1000.

understandable. The whole shtick about MMO's is that you are to spend countless hours grinding for an endgame social life.

It translates to roughly $5/hr to people that have put hundreds of hours into their character and sell it for $1k. It's even worse for the seller if it was their main they've put years into. It's actually a better deal for the buyer.

well, some people have alot of fun playing these games.

However, my friend was able to quickly grind these characters out by using help from his alternate characters.

Some games are pretty quick to level up, also doesn't take much effort since you could leave it alone on the side whilst you watch tv or play another game.

not saying its worth its time, but is not as much effort as other people would think.

eve has an economy that is comparable to real world the money he used was made in game playing and if it was traded over to real world currency it would be worth $9k

I was struggling to understand what was going on in the video until I read the person's explanation to someone else who felt the same way.

It must have sucked big for that guy to lose that amount of ISK all in that short time period after all he had done to get it. I will say, game looks interesting but a tad bit too much going on.
