Splinter Cell Movie Update: Actor Writer Director Confirmed

I think you misunderstood what Mr_Nuts meant by "source material." By throwing away the traits of what fans--the people they should being selling this to--have expected, no one will probably be satisfied by the end result (in his words).

A rather young actor getting the role of a middle-aged spy isn't a good start already.

Tom hardy is great so it's already looking good for me. Surprised he agreed to such a risky project.

Completely agree. I just can't see this doing well... I'd like to hope it's going to be a good movie, but killrate is right. these movies aren't normally good.

Tom Hardy is great, but he does have a record of doing some very crappy movies..one of them that comes to mind is This Means War

I think films like Skyfall helped this happen. If a spy film can make $1.1 billion I'm sure Ubisoft will do everything in their power to make it good.

Splinter Cell has a chance of being good for one reason... The movie industry is pretty good at doing espionage movies. Had this been Sci-Fi or Fantasy I would have doubts as those movies seem to have more misses than hits.

With the recent direction of the Splinter Cell franchise, the history of game to movie adaptations, and the fact that it's a lot more fun to play a covert operative than it is to watch one...

I have no idea why people would be hopeful/excited for this, or be anticipating it in any way. Good job casting Tom Hardy, who is only a couple decades younger than Sam Fisher. I can already tell they are staying true to the source material.

Tom Hardy already has a gruff look. How hard would it be to make him appear a little older on screen. Not very hard. Secondly, Sam doesn't perform like a human being in his 50's in Conviction. He moves like a man in his mid 20's with the experience of someone his age.

As Dlacy stated above...having to spend big bucks on special effects for a Sci-fi or Fantasy would have made me a little weary. Since they like to skimp on money to make the movie look the part. Since it's espionage, and you don't have to spend big money for someone to sneak in the shadows...there's optimism there.

Lot of fun to watch a covert operative too. Have you seen the Bourne movies? Even though he lost his memory...he still behaved very much like a covert operative. Just one in hiding.

A little older? Is at least a 20 year age difference that small to you?

Spending a movie watching a defected agent perform intense hand to hand combat vs other agents, evade government operatives as they try to capture him, etc., is way different than what Splinter Cell is all about. You may be entertained by watching someone sneak through the shadows for 2 hours, but I think that is better accomplished with a video game.

Yeah, and he also gets unlimited ammo, can't hide bodies (he forgot how) and somehow can magically shoot 3 people at once. That game is a joke, and definitely doesn't hold up to the Splinter Cell name. If that is what this movie is going to go by, then it has already failed.

As long as you see the movie and not constantly relate it to the games and such, you will enjoy it. Just like the Hitman movie, compared to the games, its horrible. But if you stop comparing it to the games, then it was a decent film. Gamers make the worst critics on movies based on video games.
Love Tom Hardy, this should be alright, wont know anything till we get more details though :)

They should start with Double Agents story, a seasoned splinter cell agent who's daughter's just been killed, works deep undercover for a terrorist group, and then has to kill his boss in the end then ditch Third Echelon, who are after him.

Oh damn, I misread this at first. I thought it said David O. Russell was directing. I'd have much higher hopes if he was. Instead of it being someone's directorial debut.

Kiefer Sutherland would be ideal for the role but he´s working for Kojima at this point.
