Wow! I guess David Hayter is really upset he won't be returning to the role of Snake for the next Metal Gear Solid game. Or maybe he's still participating in a long con with MGS creator Hideo Kojima? Check out what he just tweeted:

This actually matters for some people, you play a character so much and they really start to grow on you, I hated when they changed cole in infamous 2 and Jackie in the darkness 2. Imagine if they changed drake in uncharted, it may be a new game but something is still missing. Especially since this series has been around for this long.

If you've watched the video of the reveal, a dumb hollywood director gave him the idea of changing voice actors. The reason the Japanese V/A stays is because he doesn't need mocap. The thing that troubles me about all this is how Kojima handled this situation, he really didn't do a good job on this.

After all the years of service that David Hayter has done for the MGS franchise bringing life to the character of Snake to have him not even be informed that a change was coming is disrespectful. Konami never even approached him about this matter.

Okay I'm just as bummed as most fans that Hayter is gone, but now the real reason why he was fired has been revealed.

Facial motion capture.

David Hayter has to change his voice when acting as Snake. If you probably watch him in the studios doing this, his face most likely doesn't look normal and probably looks funny.

Since Kojima badly wants to record not only voice but facial movements of the voice actor, he had to change Snake's english actor. This also solves the mystery of why Akio Otsuka was kept on. The Japanese voice actor of Snake is actually using his real voice. Unlike Hayter, he isn't changing it. Therefore, it's possible for Akio Otsuka to perform naturally. Hayter would not be able to perform naturally. This probably also explains why the voice actor of Kazuhira Miller is still the same too.

Still, I'm really disappointed that David Hayter is gone. I've listened to this guy's voice for so many years and now he's gone. MGSV will very likely be the last MGS game too.

Well I dunno, I presumed it to be true at first, but now watching your videos, I'm not so sure.

While it's true his face isn't doing somersaults, it isn't very natural. And since face motion capture takes in the tiny details, it might look weird? Also, in voice acting, you don't have to keep your face in character, just your voice so perhaps Hayter can't keep his voice if he has to concentrate on his face too?

MGS fans, you can disagree with me at all, but...

For me MGS series are dead since the second MGS.
The PSX Metal Gear Solid is an absolute masterpiece. I had tears in my eyes when I watched the ending. The gameplay is honed to perfection. It is the best game for PlayStation 1 and my personal favorite.

The sequels are pale shadows compared to the original. I dream that someday Kojima will release a brand new game that will surpass MGS1 but I guess, Kojima's team can't do it anymore. They are trapped in making sequels and Konami won't release them while the MGS brand is popular.

I think Kojima is trolling. kiefer will probably play a character in the game but not Snake. There is no reason why Hayter couldn't do the facial expressions as well as the voice acting and in terms of age, Hayter is 44, only two years younger than Kiefer. People might say that Hayter is the voice of Solid snake and not the voice of Big Boss but Hayter voiced Big Boss in MGS3 and in Peace Walker. Big Boss had a different voice actor in MGS4 because Big Boss and Solid Snake shared the same scene and Big Boss was also much older. I think Hayter will come out at Konami's E3 conference and it will be announced that he is the voice actor of Snake. His tweet from a week ago said that he hoped to have his voice for E3 or something like that so it seems very plausible.

I think it all has to do with the fact MGS 5 doesn't star Solid Snake (from MGS1, 2 and 4) but Big Boss , formerly known as Boss, aka Naked Snake (from MGS 3 Snake Eater and Peace Walker), rather than Kojima-san being tired of David Hayter or anything.

I know, David did voice Naked Snake in MGS3, but for all we know, HK might have come to realize, on second thought, that it was a mistake. After all, David Hayter should've voiced both Naked Snake (the new " Big Boss") and Solid Snake during MGS4's ending, and it would've sounded weird. For all we know, maybe HK plans on bringing Solid Snake back for MGS5, and having him face his daddy...? I could imagine he's not convinced by the idea of having 2 characters voiced by the same person!

Anyway, don't worry David, you're still Snake to us all, and I'm sure there's another game starring Solid Snake in the works after this one for you to voice.

I never had any real issue with David Hayter's performance of Snake, but at times it felt so forced and kinda crappy with his overly exuberant raspy/gravelly sound. I'm happy for some new blood and Hayter should get a tissue to wipe the sand out of his mangina. He's just pissed because Metal Gear was his meal ticket and he can't get any work as a real actor.

Completely gutted about David Hayter, absolutely love his work on MGS, the "hmmm" and "Otacon..." are probably the first things I think about when Snake pops up in my head.
However, we are a committed bunch and admittedly we never take change well; Keither Sutherland could be a good choice for Old Snake, he has the gruff and acting talent to pull this off...perhaps not as low on the tone but I am still at least interested to see how this plays out.

Again, would personally be very happy keeping Hayter but as the game evolves to explores new feelings and meanings this could be a great decision by Hideo and co. Hate on the comment all you want, just saying its early days and there is a chance for us to be very happily surprised.

Avi Arad said that he was with Hideo during the 25th MG anniversary, there, he recommended KS as the voice actor for MGSV.

Based on IMDb I couldn't find a single project where these two(Avid and Kiefer) have worked together before, hence the question.

The second thing might be irrelevant but KS is wearing the same shirt during the interview and during the face capture, and to me Avi's interview sounds acted and very poorly by the way, he even mention that a friend of his used to be snake.

I've been playing MGS since the first one came out and I was 10 at the time. Granted I wasn't supposed to be playing as I was too young but I loved it and David Hayter's VO was part of my childhood. It's sad to see him go and honestly I'm not sure why they let him go. They went with a whole new actor; didn't even go with Richard Doyle.

While I do plan on getting MGSV like many other fans, people have to understand that a major change like this is going to have some backlash. I don't think it's nearly as bad as the DMC rework though.

Hayter has lived his role, it is time to pass the torch and move on. What is this, Hollywood? Lets give some other people a chance, see some more talent here.

He made 4+ freaking games with Kojima, enough is enough. I know he is just doing this to get sympathy or publicity for Kojima (in which he wont be fired) and himself.

Look Kojima said himself snake will not be talking as much in this game he never was supposed to be a talker now that they are doing mocap then they do not need to have him say so much they can express a lot with the face that’s why they need a real actor and much more than a voice actor I love Hayter as snake but I have not seen him in a movie since he was a kid (Guyver was the last movie I seen him in) so it would have been stupid to make him the mocap person and voice and it would have cost more to have two ppl come in and do snake mocap and voice so it makes sense ppl say well the Japanese actor is still in it well from what I read he is a real actor in Japan so he didn’t need to replace him if Hayter was still in movies I’m sure he would have kept his job. I do belive that he will be back when Big Boss meets solid snake I think Big Boss will be in this game and maybe two more that is if he remake the MG and MG2 games then we may have Hayter back. I don't think Hayter wanted to continue as BB because he would have to do the old snake voice again and if you are a true Metal Gear fan you know that when he did MGS4 the old snake voice messed his throat up so Kojima would not put him through that again.

knowing Kojima and his past...

this all could be an elaborate ruse.. I honestly don't see David Hayter never being involved in another MGS title.

unless there is something someone isn't telling the media. like a possible falling out or disagreement.
