Dragon Quest X Getting Two New Quests Next Week. Is Anyone Surprised?

Dragon Quest X: Mezameshi Itsutsu no Shuzoku Online for the Wii U didn’t do too hot sales-wise last week and fans will have to wait for Wednesday to see if it’ll pick up. In the meanwhile, though, Square Enix isn’t slowing down the constant updates that have been going on basically every week.

People get so giddy over the fall of the WiiU that they forget a lot of facts.

-Online games don't sell like hot cakes in Japan.

-Dragon Quest X is already out on Wii (no U).

-The Sales on Dragon Quest WiiU were enough to push the title into the top 10 in Japan. Keep in mind that the Console does not currently have the install base of the Wii or the PS3.

So enclosing, The Title (DQX) sold admirably. -

"admirably"? It sold abysmally for a Dragon Quest title, online or not. We'll have to see if it picks up this week, but it's very unlikely.

Also, if you think online games aren't popular in Japan, you're so wrong that it's not even close to funny. Japan has a VERY large MMORPG community. Games like Granado Espada or even Phantasy Star Online 2 do very well on the Japanese market.

It's time to lay the excuses to rest, really.

Please stop whining. Quit assuming that all those who dislike the Wii U must automatically hate Nintendo and are hell bent on seeing it's demise. People are entitled to not find the Wii U impressive, if that is how they feel. And frankly, they can match every imagined reason that u have for supporting it, with a reason not to. Maybe even more.

Don't like hearing other's opinions, than don't come on n4g, avoid forums altogether, stay inside, and move to some oppressive 3rd world country. There, u can avoid freedom of expression and intelligent debate all that you want.

Well said... I've always said I don't mind trolls because they're good for a laugh. What I can't stand is "THE DEFENDER"... people who come to the defense of everything X (X = generalization) related, even when no one has said anything.

I bought a Wii U day 1, and I'm already happier with it than I was with the Wii. I own it for Nintendo exclusives like Zelda and Metroid. I can certainly understand why many don't see it as a primary console when compared to PS4 or PC, and potentially 720 (depending on the details yet to come). I can understand people not being willing to drop $300-$350 right now with the release schedule being thin right now, or ever if another platform meats their needs.

Truth is Dragon Quest X isn't getting the attention of other Dragon Quest titles because it's MMO. Many Dragon Quest fans (like myself) would prefer the deep solo RPG experience the series is known for.

@guitarded77: problem is that it's getting (at least on the Wii U for now, it's doing fine on the Wii) too little attention even for a MMORPG.

First, my response was to the article and 2nd, cursorily to the people in the media and Haters.
So, why are you taking my first comment as an indictment against you?

Second, it is my opinion that blind hate hurts the industry.

Third, It is kind of interesting that you have built up a profile of my post.
So, it seem like your word are more personal. Sorry if you don't like my ethos or MO- but I recommend taking people at one comment at a time rather than becoming prejudice against everything they say- "just because those one times he said..."

For Example, Go through my history and see the few times I have engaged LOL_WUT about the WiiU. I generally am light on the lash back.

But, I'm not going to stop liking the Industry.

Yes...it won't sell well for Wii U though because their target audience already bough it less thana year ago for their old system.

And it's the same game.

They planned it poorly.

I still want a single player only version to come to the US though.

Because the fact of the matter is: who wants to play an MMO on a console that hasn't built a user base yet?

Square Enix was pretty stupid to release an MMO on a console that just launched. An MMO would do just as terrible on the freshly launched PS4 and 720. If SE really was insistent on doing an MMO, they should have done it on PS3 where there's already a huge user base. Well, to be fair, they did release it on Wii, and as pointed out, it's doing fine there.

Point being: don't release an MMO on a freshly launched console. It's the same reason why Sega is waiting to release the Vita version of PSO.

EDIT: Also, why would anyone be surprised? If you release an MMO and expect people to keep shelling out the subscription fee, of course you keep supporting the game. Even after the massive dump that was Final Fantasy XIV was released, Square Enix was rolling out constant updates to keep the few who did play paying that subscription fee.
