If I was gaming as long as I have been and been paying for xbox live I would have spent over $1200 bucks, and that's by buying cards on the cheap.

StrongMan4108d ago (Edited 4108d ago )

WHOA!!! That's would have been $1200 bucks just to play online and access features that are free everywhere else!!

Why do people defend this?

@TheRealSpy

----because they aren't free everywhere else. that's just what people who make this petty argument like to tell themselves.----

Online play, Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, internet radio, access to Netflix, access to Hulu+ ARE FREE EVERYWHERE ELSE! You are delusional or have been living under a rock for the past 6 years.

TheRealSpy4108d ago (Edited 4108d ago )

because they aren't free everywhere else. that's just what people who make this petty argument like to tell themselves.

you don't want, don't buy it. it's that simple. i do want it, i do buy it. and i don't need to hear, for the 1000th time, this same tired, idiotic comment.

on pc, if you want cross game voice chat, you rent vent or ts. on xbox, you pay for live. on ps3...oh wait. not available. even when you pay for plus.

so there's one example. vent, btw, to host 25 people is twice as much as xbox live and the ONLY feature you're getting is chat.

Jek_Porkins4108d ago

How are you still allowed on this site? All you do is bash every single Microsoft/Nintendo article and troll anyone who enjoys anything from those companies.

Xbox Live has offered things not available on other platforms since it launched all of those years ago. People are free to spend their own money on whatever they wish yes? I mean I thought people were crazy to spend $599 on the PS3 at launch, but I didn't sit there and berate anyone because they had a difference of opinion. Live and let live kiddo, you come across as if you are pleading for people to come around to your way of thinking. YOU are what's wrong with this generation. You complain, argue, call names, troll and in general are just ignorant to anyone or anything that isn't exactly like you.

Wake up, stop trolling.

TheGamerDood4108d ago

@Jek_Porkins

How is he bashing Live? Is any of what he said untrue? No. He's just stating his opinion... we are still allowed to do that on this site, right?

Temporary4108d ago

lol @ people who think Live isnt a scam.

Bnet3434108d ago

PSN doesn't have party chat so obviously it's not available everywhere else. PSN being free makes games like Metal Gear Online go away yet I can still play a launch title like Perfect Dark Zero still. Riddle me that one. And if you're seriously complaining about $40 A YEAR, that's just sad. Get a job.

neoMAXMLC4108d ago (Edited 4108d ago )

@bnet

"PSN doesn't have party chat so obviously it's not available everywhere else."

Actually, yes it does.

" PSN being free makes games like Metal Gear Online go away yet I can still play a launch title like Perfect Dark Zero still. Riddle me that one."

Almost every EA game go offline within a few years on Xbox Live despite paying for a fee. Riddle me That one.

Bnet3434108d ago

OH OH IM SORRY. let me be more specific. PSN does not have a party chat with voice. it has that useles text chat. you know exactly what im trying to say.

I'll riddle you that one, those are on EA parts, not Microsoft. Nice try, going to EA lol, troll fail. Get out. EA wants to host their own servers, fuck them. It should be the way MS has it. please don't start the PSN vs Xbox Live thing. I have both, I know what I'm talking about. You get more value with all the free games with PSN Plus, but the actual service stinks compared to Xbox Live.

LAZL0-Panaflex4108d ago (Edited 4108d ago )

I see your point, and i used to argue that same point, but last christmas i got the 360 blackops/skyrim forza4 bundle, from gamestop(blackfridadeal) and i played black ops 2 and it just played and looked better than the ps3 versions. So i went back and played alot of the same games over but on the xbox and low and behold they look better.

Plus i like the 360 controller better. I bought the pelican trigger extensios for the dualshock and its much better for call of duty and killzone, but on uncharted and battlefield i cant swap r1&r2 or l1 for l2. And i hate shooting with those flat buttons.

So in theory yes free online is better if the games were visually equal....but alot of them arent. Believe me i checked. So in my eyes now i pay for better graphics, less lag, less jive ass peeps, better interface,Plus i got a man sized controller, better 3rd party games

So i netflix on ps3 & play infamous, killzone, god of war, uncharted and other exclusives on ps3
And i play forza gears and all the 3rd party on xbox

I also prefer gamer points over trophies, platinums hold you hostage gamer points you can knock off whenever. I stopped at 14 platinums, some of those bronzes keep u from getting that damn platinum, on xbox if i'm at 920 points on a game i can just quit and leave the dumb, unreasonable, hard acievements behind which i do frequently.
Plus i like cross game chat alot. And no,...i dont like talking on my cell while i game. When my bluetooth dies, i listen to 80's rock. Its awesome playing uncharted 2 deathmatch to metal.

And you'd be a liar.

It's only been in existence for 11 years and even at 60 bucks a year that's 660 bucks.

RandomEclipse4108d ago

1200$? Well thats only because you're including your WHOLE gaming career.. because if you've payed an average of 50$ for seven years thats only 300$.. the comment seems trollish and irrelevant

OT: This is a pretty good deal and just grabbed one to throw on an extra year onto my account. Considering that i save a good amount more than 40$ and play of online multiplayer, this is definitely worth it for me.

Bigpappy4108d ago (Edited 4108d ago )

Just when to Amazon and grabbed mine. I have had XBL for 11yrs. I am ready to move to the next box without missing a beat.

Knight_Crawler4108d ago

Smart move Bigs but that can also be a double sided sword if MS decides to raise the price say by $10.

This would mean that your 1 year cards wont work until you pay the balance...unless MS decides to hon or your cards because the y were baought after the hike of price.

Also all the PS3 fanboys above, dont you guys ever get tired of ranting about payiong for Live? If you think you guys are doing us a favor becuase you want us to swtich to the PS3 then I have sad news for you...PSN is ok but lacks smooth integrtaion when switching from gaming to social mode so NO WE STILL WANT TO PAY FOR LIVE.

romancer4108d ago (Edited 4108d ago )

I've never spent more than $39.95 per year for my Live subscription, and, unlike DA Shredder, I have not been playing for 30 years -- which i would have to do to reach $1,200.

My Live subscription costs about the same as a Vente Americano once a month -- and gives me more pleasure than one cup of coffee.

But to each his own.... Live and let live -- and all that.

How bout FREE, Microsoft? Enough of this ripoff.

TheRealSpy4108d ago

They USUALLY have this deal. anyone that pays 60 is a sucker

profgerbik4108d ago (Edited 4108d ago )

A lot of suckers in the world. Hell I am glad someone stole my Xbox 360 a while ago.

Ain't nobody got time for that $60 sub for nothing. Wouldn't mind it so much if you actually got more from it than just being able to play online but whatever.

chasegarcia4108d ago (Edited 4108d ago )

#1 reason I don't have an Xbox360 and will not get x720. I refuse to pay for Live.

chasegarcia4108d ago (Edited 4108d ago )

Too bad for me because I like the Xbox brand. Especially Kinect and X-SGlass.

Pacific Rim Pinball comes to Pinball FX

This could be fun as they make great tables. Go big or go extinct. Prime your senses for a neural handshake and step into the cockpit of a Jaeger. It is on you to cancel the apocalypse when Pacific Rim Pinball comes to Pinball FX on May 16.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies21h ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken17h ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing691d 8h ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker1d 8h ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo1d 8h ago (Edited 1d 8h ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing691d 8h ago (Edited 1d 8h ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos1d 5h ago (Edited 1d 5h ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt20h ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken17h ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos1d 14h ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto1d 13h ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger881d 13h ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).

ChasterMies1d 3h ago

Trevor in GTA 6 is a sadist and psychopath who dabbles in cannibalism. Should be top of the list. These game “news” sites should hire people that know games.
