Whether it is a system we bought at launch that didn’t deliver games we actually wanted, a peripheral that you used once and never revisited, or a game you saved up your money for months only for it to disappoint, it’s all happened to us.

There's just so many to choose from.

guitarded774110d ago

I can't think of any hardware regrets, but I have a plethora of games and accessories that I regret buying... starting with the Power Glove.

JoGam4110d ago

biggest regret was Brink.

toguns4110d ago

Power Glove... hard to top that. Not unless you're one of the 5 people that bought a Virtual Boy

Redrum0594110d ago

DmC, but I knew what I was getting into when I purchased this game new, I just wasn't expecting to beat the game in 5hours on nphilim mode . Traded it in for ni no kuni :)

FarEastOrient4110d ago

The Famicon, hardly anything was released in English.

BattleAxe4110d ago

My biggest regret was the 360 I bought, and then the Gold membership that I bought after that. Oh well, live and learn, but I suppose I'm lucky that I only paid $100.00 for my 360.

ABizzel14110d ago (Edited 4110d ago )

Hardware:

1. Wii
2. PSP, there were good games, but the PSP needed 2 thumbsticks.
3. Launch consoles, the games usually run dry quickly.

Games:

Not too many, I check reviews and gamefly things I'm unsure of, and rarely buy games day 1 unless they've proven themselves.

1. Playing a copy of Vampire's Rain my cousin bought. AWFUL GAME.
2. Heavenly Sword. Enjoyed the game, but 5 hours is not a $60 game.
3. ?????

Eyeco4110d ago (Edited 4110d ago )

Mine was COD W@W, I had to choice between that and Fallout 3 I really wish I picked up the latter instead, the former is actually one of the most unpleasant gaming experiences I've ever had to endure , dreadful game

Oh and Socom confrontation , how could I forget that game was a massive f#%k you to a Socom fan , it felt less of a game but more of a pre alpha with each an every patch feeling like a portion of new build, I regret buying it because my hopes of it becoming better eventually via patches were crushed

QSPR4110d ago (Edited 4110d ago )

wow i rember i got myself the nokia n-gage. worst buy ever

InactiveUser4110d ago

@KwietStorm
My 32X came with DOOM back in the day, so even though I don't care much for the DOOM franchise now-a-days, it wasn't regrettable back then.

TheDivine4110d ago (Edited 4110d ago )

You know I more regret the stuff I either didn't buy like Radiant Historia or stuff I sold like my old snes/n64/GameCube games. I do regret some games I bought day 1 which is why I stopped unless they're jrpgs that may become rare or stuff like Ni No Kuni which I don't mind paying extra for in hopes of a sequel.

Kinda regret the vita though. I love it but I should've waited till thanksgiving when I could've saved a hundred bucks on it and all the ps plus games I got I had already bought kinda making me feel jipped. Resistance BS was part of that vita remorse also lol. Still p4 justifies my lack of self control and patience.

Holy shit I forgot I did buy Venetica on a Black Friday deal and damn was that game a POS. horrible judgement on my part and prob the worst ten dollars I ever spent on gaming.

joab7774110d ago

U wont regret ni no kuni...its amazing!

jeseth4110d ago

NES Power Pad

That thing was the most inaccurate and frustrating thing. I remember trying to play Track and Field as a kid and almost crying.

Highlife4110d ago

Hardware
3DO, PSone blew it out of the water.
Wii

Games
Madden 13 no drafting or season mode
Oblivion and Skyrim to many bugs
Assassins Creed boring trailer was so awesome though
Burger Time 2 (original was awesome at the time)
Marble Madness (probable broke some controllers over that game)

darthv724110d ago

Mine are more about selling. Like selling my neogeo AES and 5 carts for a mere $300...damn what a fool i was. But at the time, i needed the cash.

Ive traded in dozens of genesis and snes games in the past. I dont do that anymore. Now im on a quest to get back all the ones I traded away and some I never had.

you will see me on an episode of Hoarders one day. I will be the one with the entire house filled with flattened cats because of all the game boxes everywhere.

gaffyh4110d ago

Definitely the Wii in terms of hardware.

tehpees34110d ago

I would say 360 when I originally bought it. *shudder*

To be honest my biggest regret thus far is the Nintendo Wii U. Not anything worth playing right now after Mario, and nothing interesting coming up. Right now I'm trying to resell it at market value to recoup the cost and then maybe purchase it down the line after a price drop.

A close second is the regular Nintendo Wii system. Bought it played it barely and it sat gathering dust.

guitarded774110d ago (Edited 4110d ago )

You didn't see anything enticing in today's Nintendo Direct?

Also, after you mentioned it, I said I had no hardware regrets, but remembered that I did sell my Wii... I think it was more a matter of not having many games for me, and not really being that into motion controls. However, I do like my Wii U... sure, it's in a drought for games like any console 2 months after launch, but the Nintendo Direct this morning has me pretty pumped.

EddieNX 4110d ago (Edited 4110d ago )

Well , then you are foolish for buying it in the first place.

I'm loving my wiiu and have bought many great games for it already and can barely put it down , but everyone is different.

I feel the same about my Vita. it's just an incredibly sexy paper weight right now after finishing UCGA , Gravity rush .

Also , you're in for a shock when 720 and ps4 launch , cus the launch window is going to be very similar to Nintendo in the sense that you will have a lot of previous gen games just with slightly updated graphics , and a few rushed games.

be patient. Consoles don't hit the ground running software wise.

Kingthrash3604110d ago (Edited 4110d ago )

King of wii... Everything from you name to your comment sounds fanboyish.. Just saying. And then you contradict yourself buy saying you can't put the wiiU down and bought MANY great games... Then in the next paragraph you say the ps4/720 will be much like the wiiu with slightly updated previous gen games? So your having a blast with previous gen "rushed" games?
Also, who's to say that will be the ps4/720s case with previous gen games. The wiiU is only very slightly stronger than previous gen consoles. Ps4720 will be significantly stronger than this gens consoles. For shame fanny boi.

On topic I actually had a virtra boy...... Nuff said.
Oh and psp go....needed a umd drive. would be my number 2

dougr4110d ago (Edited 4110d ago )

I have Mario and COD Black Ops 2. Mario was okay, but I liked it a lot less than the Wii Mario. I'm a big fan of some games from Nintendo, but nothing releasing soon leads me to believe I should have just waited for either a price drop or to buy it cheap second hand. The only game coming up that I'm going to buy is the Lego game, but other than that I'm left waiting for a mario party/kart, Zelda, DK, or Banjo game. I really was foolish for buying it, but I have to have all the newest gadgets. As for the new PS4 I'll get it launch for sure, but I'll probably have regrets about it as well.

Other than the two Wii's though I have no regrets. I've never bought a hand held system other than Gameboy and console wise additionally I've owned Nintento, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, PS1/2/3 and have thoroughly enjoyed all of those.

kayoss4110d ago

@dougr
I have a wiiU and the only game I have for it is zombieu and mario game. I actually won the Wii u from work. But I use to love mario games but I've gotten older Mario games kind of lost its fun factor. my wife is currently playing the Mario game and she hates the contoller. LOL. But you brought up Mario party, I was wondering how would it work? Do we need to buy multiple tablets? But ky biggest regret is getting the Wii. I played the sport game that came with it for about a week and since then I've never touched it and its been 5 years.

Irishguy954110d ago

That's why you should never buy a just launched system.

I have never bought, I don't understand how anyone can put up with the lack of games that the 360, Ps3, and Wii started out with. I got the 360 when it had Oblivion, Cod 2 and 3, Halo 2(lol), Forza 2, Fable 2, and Gears of war 1.

I bought a Ps3 when MGS4 came out, and all the previous games since that date.

Got the Wii after that with a few 9/10 games

State of emergency - Rockstar games.

typikal824110d ago

Oh man, I can't describe the disappointment of this game

DonnieDarko4110d ago (Edited 4110d ago )

Hardware: sega mega cd, psp, GameCube. Amstrad GX4000

Software: rival turf (Snes) joe and mac (Snes) streets of rage 3 (genesis)

Stuff I regret selling: my ROB nes. My game gear. All my Nintendo game and watch handhelds. PAIN

Online games I miss the most - socom 1&2. Midtown madness 2. Halo 2 :( splinter cell chaos theory - that game was ahead of its time!

Merrill4109d ago

Terrible game. I bought it the day it came out, what a piece if turd. I guess I was still high on GTA3 and figured Rockstar could do no wrong, how wrong I was.

ThatGuy24110d ago

Duke Nukem Forever...i think i won this lol

vallencer4110d ago

Duke nukem forever collectors edition. I think I won lol. But seriously I can't believe I bought that game period.

PSPGo was a big disappointment. Had they given us a way to transfer our UMD games, without having to pay again, it might have been better.

T3mpr1x4110d ago

It could have been relatively easily done, too...Such a shame. I got mine for $100 if I remember correctly, and it was definitely worth that price!

Tetsujin4110d ago

Go cramped my hands big time, I also didn't like how it's 16 GB flash that's not upgradable.

ftwrthtx4110d ago

Some games cramped me up but MLB The Show was ok.

DanShadow274110d ago

Half of Nintendo's 3DS games last year

dbjj120884110d ago

Really? I haven't regretted any 3DS purchases.

DanShadow274110d ago

Paper Mario Sticker Star stands out the most for me. As a fan of both the Mario and Luigi and Paper Mario series, I couldn't stand that frustrating mixup. It lost its identity.

zerocrossing4110d ago

Operation Winback 2: Project Poseidon, Operation Winback was an amazing game on PS2, but the sequel... It was just so goddamn awful.

Soldierone4110d ago

Lmao I remember this. I was so excited for it, and it was like "wtf is this?" So I replayed the first to get the taste outta my mouth.

zerocrossing4110d ago

Haha! Yeah same here man. Operation Winback 2: Project Poseidon is probably the worst sequel to any franchise ever, and Im including Dino crisis 3 here, lol.

vallencer4110d ago

Wow there's a game I wish they would make again. I loved operation wingback. It was such a good game.

MasterCornholio4110d ago

Ooooo thats a nasty one especially on the PS3 which was almost unplayable when it came out. Remember the nasty bug that would cause the console to freeze everytime you entered water with the character and remember that Bethesda took over a month to fix that.

The Wii was extremely regrettable for me though as well as the XBOX360 when Microsoft went crazy with kinect.

I_am_Batman4110d ago

Mine is Oblivion so I skipped Skyrim. I just expected too much from the game. I liked the main story though.

knifefight4110d ago

Yeah. The PS3 version of Oblivion wasn't without some problems here and there, but it was overall playable for dang sure, even with no patches. I expected similar of Skyrim but daaang. I had to trade it in soon after. Will get it again when I have a good enough PC, I think.

Pacific Rim Pinball comes to Pinball FX

This could be fun as they make great tables. Go big or go extinct. Prime your senses for a neural handshake and step into the cockpit of a Jaeger. It is on you to cancel the apocalypse when Pacific Rim Pinball comes to Pinball FX on May 16.

Mugen Souls Retro Review – Sexy Demon Space Adventure

Gary Green said: We have a juxtaposition of 2D and 3D visuals, flashy turn-based combat, quirky anime characters with cheeky dialogue with plenty of partial nudity; Yes, this is a Compile Heart JRPG. Whilst the engine is borrowed from Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, Mugen Souls is more of a Disgaea spin-off. It’s not a strategy RPG as such, it merely sits within Disgaea’s ever-expanding universe (Multiverse? Netherverse? Your guess is as good as mine). You won’t find cameos though, since Mugen Souls is a franchise which aims to stand on its own two feet.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies21h ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken16h ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing691d 8h ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker1d 8h ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo1d 7h ago (Edited 1d 7h ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing691d 7h ago (Edited 1d 7h ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos1d 4h ago (Edited 1d 4h ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt19h ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken16h ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.
