'Too many fighting games'.

Er, yeah, it's the Neo Geo....

eindeadmiles4152d ago

SNK did produce quite a lot of non-fighting games as well.

Is it worth owning or does emulation prove to be better???

HELL NOOOOOOO nothing stand out from physical disc.

edit: be nice if NEO GEO back in gaming competition with competitive pricing 250-350.00

WE need more than FPS and multiplayer only games SHEESH!!

eindeadmiles4152d ago

Here's the counter to your argument, none of these games are physical but built in to the system. So yeah I'm all for variety and physical media but there isn't any with this system.

Bookin' It: The Dark Side of the Page

Kind of crazy how some of these projects were taken down.

The most overpriced video game systems in history

Gamers hold a lot of techno-joy for their favorite hobby, and are willing to break out their credit cards for the next big system. That is, assuming that it isn't as ludicrously overpriced, as some have in the past.

I don't think the PS3 should be on here, like the 360 it had high specs when it launched. Also, the vanilla PS3 had blu-ray drive, internal hard drive, built in wi-fi, and a PS2 emotion chip. The Wii U in my opinion was overpriced during the latter parts of its life cycle (especially in 2015-2016).

Razzer2595d ago

Yeah.....it suffered early for doing too much and costing a lot. The later version scaled back and actually made a hell of a comeback. But costing $599 and still selling it at a big loss? That was just a big mistake by Sony.

Still love my trusty PS3 though.

Outside_ofthe_Box2595d ago

It was a mistake, but it doesn't mean that it was overpriced. PS3 was just sooo expensive it priced itself out the market is all. Overpriced would be like smartphones today where they cost $200 to manufacture but they charge you $800 to purchase.

Razzer2595d ago (Edited 2595d ago )

True. It was actually under priced from a business standpoint. But 360 just undercut it so badly with all its simple, cheap focus on gaming. Sounds familiar.

SpaceRanger2594d ago

$599?
Starting price for base model was $499. Offered a ton and was the cheapest bluray player on the market. Don't regret it one bit.

masterfox2595d ago

At first you may think $599 for the Playstation 3 was crazy to sell it at that price tag, but if you consider it had a Bluray player, a stand alone cost in that time over 1000 dlls, it had a PS2 integrated chip, not to mention a hell alot of media options you toy with, lots of tech integrated, so $599 was very reasonable, but the problem was that the economy of most people wasn't that great( today is even worst) to spend in such equipments, even thou at that price it manage to sold out nearly everywhere, Playstation brand is very powerful.

LexHazard792595d ago

No....... a blu ray player was not $1,000 when PS3 came out.

Rimeskeem2595d ago

A blu ray plus game console that could play PS2 games is 100% worth 600$

masterfox2595d ago

This BR player was release in December of 2006, and it cost $1000

This other one cost $1300 and it was released in december as well:

The very first one released by Samsung in June of 2006 at $1000 dlls

The PS3 released in November 2006, seriously after doing that little research now come to think of it the PS3 was a steal!, Sony weren't lying when they say with each unit of the PS3 they were loosing money, this on the first years.

RosweeSon2594d ago

10 years ago they weren't far off. It wasn't a cheap console PS3 but being able to play ps1/2 and new 3 games sold. Extra ports and gubbins as well 👍🏻

snoopgg2594d ago

No , but a good bluray was 1000.00 at the time

Elda2594d ago (Edited 2594d ago )

When blue ray players first came on the market the were priced from 800 dollars to a grand or more.

rainslacker2594d ago (Edited 2594d ago )

Cheapest Blu-Ray player at the launch of the PS3 was about $700 when on sale. MSRP of that player was $1000 though. There were two other players at the time, and they were in the $1200 range, but could be found on sale for between $900-1000.

What's funny though is that the PS3 was actually a better blu-ray player than those models, and cost half the price. Even today, the PS3 is a very good blu-ray player, and it was one of the best players you could get for much of the last gen. I honestly think the PS3 is still a better BR player than the PS4 is, but I've never tested it to any great length, so my opinion on that may be anecdoctal.

No mention of N64? That wasn't cheap day one. Prob why console was reduced by nearly half within 6 months.
