Bill to focus on video-game violence

More than a decade ago, the video game Doom became a focal point when police revealed that Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, the teenagers who committed the Columbine High School massacres, played the game.

"'Recent court decisions demonstrate that some people still do not get it. They believe that violent videogames are no more dangerous to young minds than classic literature or Saturday morning cartoons. Parents, pediatricians, and psychologists know better. These court decisions show we need to do more and explore ways Congress can lay additional groundwork on this issue."

-Rockefeller (congressman who purposed the bill)

You shouldn't finish a statement calling for a comprehensive study with a comment that's a foregone conclusion. This action would be defensible if it were in favor of a non-biased analysis on the effects of video games but the framing of the issue brings the nature of the study itself into questioning.

In addition to this, if they want to have a study on video games and violence, they should also look into the effects of other various structures many first-world countries have erected--be it cultural, economical, etc.--and how that may, or may not, have contributed to a society that breeds unnecessary crime and violence.

rainslacker4144d ago

It just boggles my mind that they keep wanting to restudy this same issue over and over, somehow expecting different results than the numerous studies that have come before it.

In response to that quote. If parents know better then why are they letting their kids play violent games? If pediatricians know better why aren't they getting these kids the help they need? If psychologists know better why haven't they published studies that show it's true? It's a hyperbolic statement that plays on our emotions, saying something is unequivocally true in order to push an agenda.

Maybe they should introduce a bill that doesn't waste money on something that's already been studied numerous times, and instead spend that money on a bill that goes about training responsible adults how to notice the warning signs in children so they can get the help they need. Something that was clearly not done in this case.

The Rockefellers love oppressive, illogical ideas.

Good grief, videogames don't kill people. Crazy people do that. All of these killers are nuts. We need to start locking up the loons.

DarkBlood4144d ago

lol exactly if that was the case i dont think all of us would be commenting on the website and instead go on a mass killing spree against each other which if it was really the cause the number of people would be hell of alot greater

RuleofOne343 4144d ago

shity parenting, broken home, shity gun laws that addresses nothing, proud parents that refuse to seek help for their screwed up child. Those are the true reason why shooting at SH,CH,VT happened . Had nothing to do any form Of medium. Their been people organization that killed more people. During time where our medium did not exist.

Lord_Sloth4144d ago

Blaming gun laws isn't accurate, neither is a broken home. Every man is responsible for his own actions. I play many of the most violent video games around, I have guns and swords, and have been poor and suffer depression and have for most of my life. You don't see me shooting random people up.

If it isn't a gun, it will be a baseball bat, or a knife, or a bow and arrow, or a club, or hands. Should we outlaw them as well? Rampages happen and nothing can be done to better prepare for it short of beefing up security which then leaves us in a police state which still solves nothing. In the end all you can do is try to make sure you and your family are as safe as possible which still isn't guaranteed.

One of the best comments I've read on this site.

I really wouldn't need to see your avatar or name to know that, based on your comment, you would like MST3K.

I'm sorry but what about all the people who play it fair like me, and can actually differentiate between reality and fantasy? What about the people who are over the age of 17 and are enjoying the violent video games for fun? They can't just suck away our fun just because the lowest common denominator decided to commit a horrendous crime.

EKWB reportedly plagued with financial disarray many gaming pc's left without parts

EK Cooling allegedly has slipped itself into a hot soup of seemingly endless financial woes, where it has not paid its staff, suppliers, and contractors for many months as the company is facing liquidity problems and a surplus of inventory left unsold, stuck in the warehouse for a more extended period. Gamers Nexus investigated these claims made by former and current personnel, where he found trails of unpaid bills lasting as long as three to four months and unpaid raises that accumulated for almost a year.

EK Water Blocks has two entities—a Slovenian-based headquarters and a US-based subsidiary, EK Cooling Solutions. Steve narrated the series of events in detail, stating that the company was reportedly irresponsible and negligent regarding payment. Consequently, partners and employees are forced to share the burden of alleged mismanagement. It all begins with its extensive range of products, leading to a surplus of goods. EK has over 230 water blocks, 40 liquid cooling kits, 85 reservoirs, 40 pumps, 73 radiators, and 212 miscellaneous accessories.

Yes this is not about video games directly but indirectly this will impact the pc gaming/workstation space hard.

This company is massive one of two in the water cool space so if it goes poof then thousands out there have no spare parts or half built computers.

SO yeah i know not about a video game but think of it as amd leaving the pc space but this is ekwb that could be leaving water cooling in the pc space

Jayz2cents a supporter of there products also has issues

As someone that has built a watercooling rig. EK is big, but there's so many numerous watercooling part companies out there. EK's stuff isn't exactly amazing quality for the price compared to others either, it's just ok. Much like Corsair. The impact would be negligible long term. For perspective the majority of my parts are XSPC, at most I use EK for my gpu waterblocks and fittings. Both easily replaceable.
