Also I would hate to be a core gamer if the mostly means mario, pikmen etc.. Zelda is reasonable but still not much mature games from nintendo since ever.

This simple mindedness is pretty funny. Look, a game doesn't have to be "mature" to be good. You may be only interested in those kinda games but that doesn't mean others wont like a "less mature" game. Gaming isn't about proving your maturity or manhood thru what games you play anyway, its about being entertained and whatever that game is (be it rated E-M) if its what floats your boat then that's all that matters.

If nintendo ever figures out how to upscale old wii games then you would realize you don't even have to buy a Mario or Zelda to have fun on the wii.

I find mature games boring. The stories are too safe. The interaction is not even worth it most of the time. No replay value.

Also my wii game library can not even be purchased in most stores. A few of these game sold more than 10 million copies to 5 million copies. People still play lots of these games too.

I'm really excited about ms surface also and win 8 is ready for console use.
I really hope the next Xbox is like surface with the whole system being a tablet local cloud setup.

I have an over spec pc with a six core i7 and 64+ gigs of ram. I'm not excited about the promise of power. I'm looking forward to a return of the arcade.

1 thing its missing is hype to me it doesnt feel like a console launch i havent seen 1 wiiu commercial and not that much coverage from gaming websites.

I've seen a few, but they're uncommon and not geared towards core gamers. Also it's hard to cover the Wii U since so many of the titles are ports. Do you really need to read why Darksiders 2 is better with the game pad?

Most core gamers(i really dislike those terms) go to places like this and get the exposure necessary to decide from there. They don't need commercials for such things.

Wow, way to miss the point. By that I meant the core demographic was less likely to view it. If they wanted to market to mothers, it will be on during reality tv shows. If they wanted to market to guys looking for fun, perhaps during a football game. If they wanted to market towards kids, they will appear during cartoons.

Ad's exist, I found them uncommon and this is most likely because im not in the demographic. But feel free to argue the your irrelevant point, I am sure many will agree with you regardless.

so many of the titles are ports. Really? Do we have to go through this again? There are 31 launch titles including the eShop games. How many are considered 'old' ports? AC3 comes out 2 weeks later, Black Ops 2 comes out 5 days later. So what do we have left that's considered an "older" port? Batman, ME3, Darksiders 2, Fifa 13, Madden 13 and Tekken. Where do you get Most when we are talking about less than a quarter of the games.. ???

Actually it's not. You're getting far more than an ipad or iphone 5 (which will be outdated with the 5S coming in a few months, next spring).

The dollar is worth 75 percent less than it was when the Wii came out, which really means you're getting the Wii U at a cheaper price point than the Wii was. Just the numbers are bigger because of inflation/dollar devaluation.

On top of this Nintendo won't cut the price for a while, it's already been stated. It's selling out and will be for many months, so why lower the price of something you're selling out? It won't have a price decrease until the PS4 or 720 come out. Even then I'd suspect they'll wait until after that holiday season, so like spring of the next year. So if the 720 comes out Nov 2013, then don't expect a price drop on the Wii U until spring 2014. Even then, the 720 might take longer than that to come out, so Nintendo isn't going to be dropping the price anytime soon. Be prepared to wait.

What's funny is you're knocking extreme value. You're getting a new system, with a revolutionary gamepad for $299 or $349. Again, about 1/2 the price of a iPhone 5, which is almost outdated as production on the iphone 5S starts in January.

its called artifical shortages companies choose to do this . I learned about it in marketing class in college. Companys do this to control demand they have more power to have it in everyones hands than you think. trust me your going to hear about targets getting only 3 consoles early in the systems life.

Idiot companies do this. It's why marketing is psychology and is thus manipulative and worthless.

Nintendo isn't doing this. The key is to create the lack of demand, get the boost, and release the consoles. But really that's just asinine. It's incredibly stupid, and any CEO that authorizes such a move should be kicked out by the Board of Directors ASAP.

They haven't even shown their heavy hitters yet. This holiday numbers will be crushed.
If you played any of their wii games you would know they fixed all of their game play issues in 3d engines. Which means these games will be pretty fun! Now they are just adding the icing of good graphics.

They are getting really good at these mini games and they are starting to approach the charm of arcade games now. Just play n land then you'll understand.

Then you have ninja gaiden getting back on track. The original gaiden on the Nes total crushes most games in story telling. The arcade version was very fun back in the day.... Who knows??? Treasure is a gamers game developer.

I don't know nintendo is funding some heavy hitters.

Platnium is on board also.

Another thing is sure to happen is more big studios will close once the next Xbox and ps4 come out simply because the jump will not be as big and game play has went down the drain.

No it couldn't. 40 million is what most consoles achieve throughout half their lifetime. The hype for this thing is beyond sour. I know many people who didn't even know its coming out this Sunday which is extremely strange. Whats really weird is the little to no advertisements when the console is 6 days away. Its all really strange to me for a console launch. When the Wii and PS3 launched really close to each other back in 2006 everybody knew they were coming out and I mean everybody. Even my grandma knew about it. I've never seen a launch as quiet as this one. Really bizarre. It actually looks like a good console but will have to see if everyone jumps on ship with it.

While some people might say the wii was a fad that non gamers just jumped on the bandwagon for, I'd say 'cultural phenomenon' is probably a more accurate definition.

Either way, I don't see the casuals picking up a wii HD. They're called casuals for a reason, they don't care about gaming, they're not going to rush out and pick up the next new toy. And I don't see the core really being that interested. Most of us will wait for the real players to come out (PS4/720).

But if somehow the Wii U can be perceived to be as popular than the original, casuals will probably rush out and buy it again purely because everyone else is, not so much because they actually need or want one.

I think most non gamers might think it is a new controller for the Wii. That is not a good thing. Even in the gaming community there is not huge buzz about anyone actually wanting to buy this thing. Hopefully it will sell well despite that.

I had my girl look at the wii u commercial and give her thoughts. Her thoughts were the wii u appealed to all def towards families. She also said that she is not paying a lot of money for something she won't be using every day. At this point I was like wow Nintendos smart. You get the casual money and then you get some hardcore money.

Mean initially or througout its life time? Because initially it may, but Wii was a phenomenon. It was sold out for like 3 years straight, broke records, and made records. I don't remember any thing like it.

Economic conditions were much different then too. And economic conditions today will definitely effect sales (of all systems btw). Hell I seen Hurricane Sandy destroy parts of NY and NJ personally. Some folks have lost EVERYTHING, entire homes are gone, I don't think Video games matter much to those folks.

In any case, the real answer will reveal itself as time goes by and we see the software Nintendo and third parties choose to release for the system. If they release the right software this system will soar, if not, it will be gamecube 2.

I hope this system tries to be the successor the SNES deserved. We as gamers would all like a New Super Nintendo wouldn't we?

I myself consider myself a gamer. And I havent really looked into exactly what the WiiU can do.

So for the casual....what is going to drive them to buy a WiiU??

If anything they may think its a add-on for the Wii. And think im not buying a add-on to my dust collecting Wii.

I wonder how many Wiis are collecting dust with only the game that it came with. I know my roomie has a Wii and has used it like 3 times. Those 3 times were during family gatherings around the holidays.

She has NEVER played it by herself. And she CANT be the only person in the same situation.

Nintendo is in a tough situation IMO. You had a huge juggernaught that was the WII....you now have a new console that launches in a few days. And there is like ZERO buzz.

Look at the lead up to Halo 4...that had some Buzz...ppl taking about it etc. Same for Blops2...pics of midnight launches etc popping up.
