Should You Play 'XCOM: Enemy Unknown' On PC Or Console?

Forbes: With its revered PC origins, it seems sacrilegious to even consider purchasing and playing XCOM: Enemy Unknown on a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. Add to this the fact that any developers daring enough to translate Real-Time Strategy controls to a console gamepad are traditionally met with critical failure, and you have a recipe for avoidance.

Fortunately, XCOM: Enemy Unknown is a Turn-Based Strategy title, and developer Firaxis has given thoughtful attention to the game’s user interface across all platforms. So which version is right for you? I’ve played both, and hopefully my experience can steer you in the right direction.

Good. I wish all developers would alter the UI between console and PC versions of their games. I'll get this on PC.

I'm getting it on PC, because I know the PC will have some big advantages (especially when it comes to camera control and overall functionality).

HOWEVER, if you don't have a gaming PC I HOPE you will give this game a chance on console. For starters, it is very rare that consoles get good strategy games. Also, I'd like to see the X-COM name thrive once again.

"For my money, Steam’s option to pre-load the game for $10 less than its console variant and receive Civilization V for free is the clincher."

Another reason why I'm getting it on PC. You also get some in-game items for free as well. Either way it looks like an awesome game on any platform.

*if you pre-purchase

lol...anytime you have the option for any game ever made, the answer is pc,

pc = amazing graphics, mods, flawless controls, 60-120 frames, massive anti aliasing that gets rid of ALL jaggies

-all things console DO NOT provide.

always game on pc!
provided your pc is not a granny rig

Games4M - Rob4217d ago (Edited 4217d ago )

wtf is massive anti aliasing ???

Anyway you aren't wrong, you just sound like a bell-end.

That said im getting it on PS3.

Stop acting like a clueless idiot. You know exactly what he meant. Ah... already N4G is getting under my skin this early in the morning. Never fails.

Games4M - Rob4217d ago

Of course i knew what he meant, i'm mocking his over exaggerated delivery - if that wasnt made 'obvious by my calling him a bell-end then I'm afraid its you who is the clueless idiot.

And seriously if random strangers comments on a videogame website "get under your skin" then you should probably just turn off the internet forever.

PC = gamer edition.
Console = for the masses addition.

lol Sucks to be popular huh?

"XCOM: Enemy Unknown PC features revealed: prettier and more tactical than on consoles"
http://www.pcgamer.com/2012...

I think it will sell low on consoles anyway it's a strategy game seriously horror is dead, tactical shooters are dead & stealth is dying on console now so why would a strategy game be popular on console.

Cod is coming so this game will collect dust on ps3 and 360 for most.

Just telling it like I have seen it.

WeskerChildReborned4217d ago

I'm getting it on console since i do not own a PC yet but maybe i'll get it on PC too when i have one.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown - A Welcome Rebirth

XCOM: Enemy Unknown rebooted the series back in 2012, and has since inspired numerous new strategy game series to be born.

If someone gets into this I'd recommend getting the enemy within version. It's got all the dlc included so it's the better version. Wish the author would've atleast mentioned it. I didn't see it.

Fantastic game though. Xcom 2 is top notch also. I've spent countless hours in these games.

Excellent game.
Played to death on PS3 years ago.

What other games were inspired by this game?

JL2930179d ago

Gears Of War Tactics, Phoenix Point. Many others.

shinoff2183179d ago

Phoenix point if I remember was created by the original xcom developer or something to that affect. I did try gears tactics some months ago and I just couldn't get into it. It's probably just me

JL2930178d ago (Edited 178d ago )

It was, but it was really closer to the newer XCOM than the older ones. Gears Tactics was okay but was hard to get into knowing there probably wont be a sequel.

Ten Best Tactical Mobile Games

There are few things more gratifying in gaming than skillfully turning the tide of a conflict. And few genres provide as many opportunities to abruptly reverse the odds via skill and forethought as tactical strategy. To be sure, we are more often than not talking about turn-based tactical mobile games, specifically titles in line with the iconic landmark series (XCOM and Jagged Alliance) that made the genre a genre.
