When Disgaea: Hour of Darkness launched on the system it was met with loads of praise. Gamers quickly snapped it up and waited for Atlus to publish more. Because of the unexpected success, publisher Mastiff decided to bring Nippon Ichi’s previous game stateside.
La Pucelle: Tactics had actually come out a year before Disgaea in Japan, but would not be arriving a year later in North America. The question was (and still remains): Just how good is this game and was it worth the translation?"
La Pucelle is probably a good fit for those feeling nostalgic for the game or the hardcore tactic hounds, but nostalgia can sometimes be cruel mistress. Games don’t hold up to what our imagination builds them up to be. This one may fall into that category. I would have much rather seen this game and story to get updated to feel like a current generation game. If the unique strategy elements and loads of play appeal to you, this may be something you want to take a fly on. At least the price is right for a game of this quality.
VGW: During the heyday of tactics JRPGs, Nippon Ichi Software produced several of the most recognizable games on the PS2. Among these titles, La Pucelle Tactics became a fan favorite. With its release on the PSN as a PS2 classic, a new generation of gamers, as well as long-time fans now have renewed access to this tactics title. Re-releasing a well-respected classic sounds like a slam dunk, right? The answer may surprise you.
Umm...it was awesome before. So a re-release isn't as good because its been done before? This guys logic is kinda retarded. Pitfall was amazing as a kid for me. You know what it is now? ..AMAZING! Wtf cares about people new to that have never played it before? Shouldn't have been sleeping the first time when it came out years ago.
