What happens when a great game has a flaw that really disappoints you as a gamer?

Not too sure of what to make of this list after I read it. Some I agree with, some I don't.

EDIT: @Whitefeather

I always did feel it was a gross understatement when people in favor of the new DmC game say that skeptics are only concerned with the hair color. I'm none too thrilled about Ninja Theory since I've despised every game they made so far.

It also doesn't help that they not only changed Dante's looks but his personality as well. He's gone from "not giving a shit" to "not giving a shit while acting like an obnoxious prick."

Godmars2904293d ago

I wouldn't use as strong a word as 'despised' as far as NT games go. Certainly been disappointed by them.

Really annoyed by the grunge/road warrior/post apocalypse dress and environmental style they have to shove everywhere. Only seeing it again in their idea of DmC - just no. No.

HammadTheBeast4292d ago (Edited 4292d ago )

I definitely agree with you. Dante had too much class to just swear on a whim like he does now. They took away the style, and gave me this prick who Ifeel like kicking in the throat. In the old games, you rooted for Dante, in this one, I wouldnt mind if the asshole was butchered by demons.

And I also wouldnt mind as much if they hadn't sh*tted on the fans, old DMC games, old developers, and basically anyone not happy with this one.

Mike_Tha_Hero4292d ago

So you're concerned about his hair AND his personality?

What's your point?

PopRocks3594292d ago

And the game generally sucking. I pretty much detest Ninja Theory and have really disliked everything they've made thus far. That and I'd rather spend my money on something I KNOW I'll like as oppose to something I MIGHT like.

Mike_Tha_Hero4292d ago

So you're comfortable writing off a game you have yet to play? Gotcha'

doogiebear4292d ago

Yeah IKR---who cares about his hair or his attitude? What is that guy trying to date him or something?

HammadTheBeast4292d ago

Gameplay is crap as well from what they've shown. It's dumbed down, much slower, 30 fps, and the controls are completely stupid.

Why the f*ck would I need two buttons for the same dodge?

They also took out auto aim which kind of sucks.

PopRocks3594292d ago

@Mike_Tha_Hero

Wow, you have a nice way of putting words into my mouth.

I'm skeptical about all aspects of this game. As for writing it off, I simply have no interest to play it and there are more and more games coming out that I actually do want to play and I'd rather spend my time and money on those games.

If I get a chance, I'll probably rent it or borrow it from a friend, but until then it's at the very bottom of my "To play" list, so to speak.

There is the experience u have when u play a game and the one u remember having after experiencing it completely. It is the latter that determines it's replay and it's status in ur list. ME3 is a great example. I loved every minute of it and the end didn't really ruin it until I digested it all. Then I read about it everywhere, then I analyzed it, and then thought about it's possibilities. Now, it's really hard to play anymore. While I was playing, I was literally enthralled, and now I am hoping to have another entry just to help justify playing this one again.

Whitefeather4293d ago

There was a lot wrong with ME3 in my opinion. Just felt like it was worse than ME2 overall to me. Also people keep saying that the problem fans have with DmC is the hair only, it's not it's the whole game and the changing of the character and gameplay. Only thing in common is the name.

da_2pacalypse4293d ago

I agree, ME3's ending was bad, but that's not all that was wrong with it. The entire game was pretty weak and shallow aside from a few cool side missions (i.e. the Geth), and this is why the ending seemed so bad, because you expected every mission you had done at that point to somehow come together... But they don't, as a matter of fact they all felt like random side missions. The story felt way too linear and the game too often gave the player a false sense of choice. And there was rarely any character progression at all.

So, yes, the ending was bad... and the fact that there was only 3 choices (which didn't mean anything) was a horrible way to end such a great trilogy. But unfortunately the game wasn't bad just because of the ending, there were numerous problems that led to the ending turning out to be such a bad experience. It felt like an unfinished product to me (kind of like DA2)... Guess we know who to blame for that :/

Kin23g4292d ago (Edited 4292d ago )

I think you're exaggerating .. ME3 wasn't half as bad as DA2 (that one was a real mess!).

Mass Effect 3 was awesome, maybe not as good as ME2 but still a great game for sure. I enjoyed the story and the writing a lot, the gameplay too. The Illusive Man still had that aura around him. The first 39 hours was great, then came that stupid ending. That's why everyone's so pissed .. the game is great but the ending is pure shit. It made no sense whatsoever, and the Illusive Man turned into a complete 12 yrs old emo boy, in a few minutes that awesome aura was gone and he started questioning everything his believed in. And The star-child thing's the stupidest idea ever since the beginning of time. /end rant

NeoTribe4292d ago

Kin23, if me3 wasn't as good as me2 than it must really be plain jane. I'm a huge sci fi and rpg fan and I couldn't even bring myself to finishing me2. The only interesting part were the conversations id have with some of the ai. Gameplay was horrid, charachter progression was as weak as it gets for an rpg. I really don't consider it a rpg in the slightest. Missions were lame, collecting resources was lame, and the damn charachter animations were horrible. They looked and talked like like robotic manicans. Couldn't take the game very seriously.

chrispen94293d ago

It's good to see that someone agrees with me when it comes to New Super Mario Bros.

victoryscreeeeeech4293d ago

I still want mass effect 4 with Shepard

Godmars2904293d ago

And I'd like to see a sci-fi game which was a mix of ground and space combat as well as exploration and alien interaction. Not just something that became COD or gears re-skinned.

victoryscreeeeeech4292d ago

If me4 was like wat you wanted, would you get it?

Godmars2904292d ago (Edited 4292d ago )

Honestly, ME2 wasn't what I wanted, which was the main reason I didn't get ME3.

Not saying that I didn't like the game, but I've already said what I wanted and expected out of a sci-fi themed RPG and ME2 didn't deliver that.

ME4 is very likely on the way but, no matter how many millions it sells, will be nothing but a bargain bin - a collected edition at that - buy for me personally because its very unlikely that it'll be all that rewarding for me personally.

Though if EA follows SOP they'll make actual effort in the first game, then cut corners in the latter parts of a new trilogy.

Report: Sexual Misconduct Investigation Conducted at EA, Suspects Named and What They Did Revealed

EA senior staff has been investigated for sexual misconduct involving female coworkers, and these said people have been named publicly.

isarai1d 13h ago

Aye just call Phil, i mean he somehow made Bobby Kotick's scandal disappear and gave him a few million dollar high five on the way out.

Cacabunga1d 4h ago

I wonder if it will be censored with some in game ads.

XiNatsuDragnel1d 10h ago (Edited 1d 10h ago )

EA about to go down like Activision and then Phil saves the day saying.this is good for the industry and consolidation will help create competition. /s.

ravens521d 8h ago

What's up with all these horny creeps. You gon be horny, fine. Just not at work take care of that shit before you go in. Rub one out if you have to. Don't be a creep at all. ESPECIALLY at work. But don't be one AT ALL.

Extermin8or3_1d 3h ago

I mean part of the issue is that things transpired outside of work....

KwietStorm_BLM1d 3h ago

You think deviants care where they are? Work sometimes makes it an even better situation for them because they can abuse their power.

mudakoshaka11h ago

Nerds think they are Gods when they are making video games.

NotoriousWhiz1d 8h ago (Edited 1d 8h ago )

"it seems that according to EA, given the events transpired outside of work between two adults, and the fact that once investigation has started that the alleged perpetrators didn’t do it again, the investigation is considered closed. [...] The victim still has to work with the people that harassed her."

Yep, EA is disgusting.

Extermin8or3_1d 3h ago

I mean the fact stuff happened outside of work puts EA in quite a difficult position legally. These women don't seem to have reported the matter to the police which kinda ties EA's hands on what they can do. If they don't file reports of the crimes then yeah from EA's perspective it is stuff that happened outside of work. The only exception is the guy that apparently referenced things in the slack channel for work, spending on what he said proving it may be very hard and he may well be able to get away with plausible deniability. I don't like EA and I think these people need to be dismissed but without any legal action being taken, EA can't really do much without risk of being sued themselves for unfair dismissal etc.

Well, anything to make those shareholders happy, I guess. They're all that matters in this industry nowadays.

EA stocks haven't been profitable in over 5yrs. They better hope Take-two don't get the FIFA license lol.

You left out The Darkness games bring those back

fan_of_gaming32d ago

The head of Nightdive Studios has posted that The Darkness is on their list of games they want to do, so hopefully something comes from that

Yi-Long32d ago

Little Big Planet 1 and 2 deserve a mention, IMO.

Good call on Motorstorm, a game released 2 gens ago but still looks and feels so good. Motorstorm 2 and Motorstorm RC were gems as well. They followed up the Motorstorm games with the brilliant Driveclub, which still manages to put modern racing games to shame. Imagine closing down a studio as talented as that ... (!) Incredible.

A little 'arcade-gem' back then was The Last Guy, a top down 'follow the leader' snake-like game where you had to find and lead survivors to safety during an alien invasion, on terrible looking 'Google-earth' maps. Graphics were poor, even back then, but would love that same gameplay with modern maps and graphics.

Street Fighter 4, once it finally had a full roster, was quite good, but it was always an ugly game, sadly. Imagine bringing that back while using the current SF6 engine.

fan_of_gaming32d ago

Good suggestions, I'd be in for
LittleBigPlanet
LittleBigPlanet 2
Motorstorm: Pacific Rift
Motorstorm: RC

purple10131d ago

God damn I love motorstorm so much

At the time I had a low-mid range sony 40” tv, The latency to the controller was waaaay too high, would to play a modern version

In saying that later I got a 3d lg tv and playing the 3d motorstorm in my bedroom with the environment crumbling around the track, was something special, specially compared to what others were playing at the time, will always remember that

Skuletor32d ago

Some good choices here and Resistance: Fall of Man is my most wanted PS3 remaster/remake. Not sure about their claim it was Sony's answer to Gears of War though.

CrimsonWing6932d ago

I’d rather have sequels than remakes. Look at Dead Space 1 Remake. Would’ve been cooler if we got a new entry and it failed with sales sealing the fate of a sequel rather than just replay the same game and it fail in sales and we never get a new entry.

Remakes are great for things like PS2 and earlier games to really get a crazy new graphical coat, but I think we should ease up on all these remakes and actually do sequels.

fan_of_gaming32d ago

Yeah for sure, sequels would be ideal. But in the current market environment where many big publishers are risk-averse, I'd rather get a remaster or remake that a developer can do on a budget that will be approved, rather than nothing for an IP.

Inverno32d ago

I rather they remaster and port over to PC and current gen all the games permanently stuck on PS360. Those games don't need remakes, they need to be given a chance to live again outside of their confined consoles and then give a few proper sequels. Like Sleeping Dogs, Motor Storm, LA Noir, should get another entry.

fan_of_gaming32d ago

Yeah I'd be fine with remasters of PS3 games too, they don't have to be remakes.
