WC writes: These days, I hear a lot of people complaining about the state of the First Person Shooter genre. They say it has devolved into an indistinguishable amalgmous mass of samey goo. They say the genre is on its way out unless it gets kickstarted. They say that this year’s E3 presentation was just a string of presenters showing them the exact same ultra-realistic, modern anti-terrorist, psuedo-cover based, red dot scoped FPS game with different skins on top of the levels. They say all of that in line to buy a copy of Battlefield of Modern Honor 35.
Well, it’s easy to complain that other people are screwing up and not give a better solution, but it’s a hell of a lot harder to actually think up a way to fix a problem. But not so hard that I can’t do it. Why? Because I am absolutely amazing, that’s why. Don’t try this at home.
Video games are no longer just a simple past time. Today's games are evolving into true works of art. Offering intriguing narratives, cinematic setpieces, and profound messages, games can entertain us for hundreds of hours.
I never got around to mass effect - I’m skeptical that it would hold up if I were to try it now
How do composers make the iconic music tracks from games that we love? And just what makes them so memorable?
Given the medium's wild diversity, this primer of the essential video games everyone should try is a good place to start.
I can't fk with this list. They missed on alot of games probably before the writers times. Also I know people loved some portal but I was never a fan.
Tomb Raider 1
Driver 1
Abe’s Odyssey
FF6
King of Fighters 94
Mortal Kombat OG
LINK 2 the past
Street Fighter 2
Resident Evil 1
Infinite but not the first two games? Witcher 3 but not the first two games?? GTA V but not literally any of the games before it??? Portal 2 but not the first? Also if you're going to play Shadow of The Colossus play the remaster and not the remake. Can't say I disagree with the list but my man it's all over the place.
Awesome list! Hot take on Fear (and it's hard af expansion Persaus Mandate!) Bioshock Infinite is stellar, so is the Witcher 3 and you nailed it by having Ocarina of Time. So many fantastic games! Gotta play 'em all! Next one on my list is Prey after I beat Dead Space 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.
Why would they fix something that makes them a billion dollars every year?
Stop buying these games. x_x
The main problem with the FPS genre is that everyone wants to make the next COD-esque title. it's the same issue which is present in the MMO genere, everyone want's to take on WoW and by doing so they try to mirror what has already been done.
Dev's need to understand that if they want to make a huge fps hit they need to stop trying to make the game so similar to others and branch out, try new things, give the player new experiences. the genre is getting very stale as of late with the odd exception. lets hope this changes.
2 features that not many FPS games have:
-RPG Elements
-Sandbox world
These are the 2 main reason why I love Borderlands and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
