"Creating something unique"

Doing consoles that are unique: Yes

Games: Mario, Pokemon, Zelda, Starfox, Metroid...not terribly unique. Rehashed.

He's TOTALLY right about "Alone Together" being a problem today.

I really like this simple format for their reveal. It feels real and intelligent.

DwightOwen4362d ago

Still the best 1st party lineup in gaming, followed closely by Sony's.

Winter47th4362d ago

I hope their online ain't as shitty this time around.

But the news about development for the Wii being god aweful complex aren't such a good sign.

ronin4life4362d ago

@winter the console is easy to develop for. It is the developers not being willing/able to overcome the environmental challenges involved with it that is a vocal sticking point for some unnamed devs.

chaostrophies4362d ago

@winter.. pretty sure you could find a direct quote from a dev team saying its relatively easy to work with.

glennco4362d ago

easier to port games from 360 than build them for wii u initially. much harder to port from PS3 though. it will take some time (couple of years) for the devs to get up to speed with the new system.

ShinMaster4362d ago

Glad to see the option still exists. Let's hope it applies to EVERY core game.

Can't help but wonder why no one's mentioned how it looks EXACTLY like the Xbox 360 controller. Had Sony done this, people would jump all over them about "copying".

Anyway, back on topic.
I hope the online multiplayer is up to date with every other system.

WTF R U SAYING DUDE!? o.o r u high? do u seriously compare Nintendo 3 same exclusives of Mario/Zelda/Metroid with SONY who own 15 first party studios and release one triple-A exclusive after another? and btw the exclusives of PS3 is games that some1 over the age of 12 will care to play, even ppl in their past 30's, who exactly at that age will care to play Mario or Zelda... ?

StanSmith4362d ago

Are you serious cloud? Only kids care about Mario now? I know plenty of people young and old who still play mario games. Every single one is a hit.

Go look at the sales data and reviews for Mario VS Sony exclusives. Mario always wins. It has perfect level and gameplay design everytime. That's not to say Sony's exclusives aren't great because they are. Nintendo's MAIN Mario, Zelda and Metroid games are just better.

MaxXAttaxX4362d ago (Edited 4362d ago )

Sales data? Instant fail.
Wii Sports must be the best game of all time then. I guess that game "wins".
Mario, Zelda and Metroid are great, but Wii Sports is just better lolololol /s
That's a joke of course, in case you didn't catch it.

Not every single one is a hit, as you say.
I was disappointed with the Time Machine game on SNES and Sunshine on GC.

HOWEVER I still buy and play Mario games BECAUSE I grew up with Mario games. And that's true for many people.
If Mario was a new IP today, I'm %100 sure it would not have the same appeal with older gamers.

Interesting enough, Uncharted 3 sold more than Zelda: Skyward Sword.
So that kinda contradicts... ahh never mind. Try not to make your bias so obvious next time with that username.
What is better is ultimately subjective to each individual.
Happy Gaming! :)

Hisiru4362d ago (Edited 4362d ago )

@NathanExplosion
Wii Sports was a BUNDLED GAME. Okay?

Wii Sports Plus sold well because some people loved this different experience in videogames and the original game had a big install base (because, again, it was BUNDLED).

I don't need to say much, just go after the metascore and you will see reviews for Mario, Zelda etc. Nothing more to say because as much as you guys are Sony fans, Nintendo has the best first party games, period!

And this is coming from a guy that only has a PS3 (right now).

pixelsword4362d ago (Edited 4362d ago )

That social commenting in games smacks of Demon's Souls.

BattleAxe4362d ago (Edited 4362d ago )

That controller will not work out well. It would feel too weird to have the buttons bellow the analogue sticks. Not to mention that the grip on the controller will be uncomfortable with the analogue sticks so close to the top of the controller.

Then again, Nintendo probably knows that you will only be using the d-pad most of the time for super Mario Bros. so they're not too worried about how the analogue sticks feel. They're basically just for show.

MaxXAttaxX4362d ago

Relax. You obviously missed the sarcasm when I brought up Wii Sports. No need to get so defensive.
Besides, non-bundled copies of Wii Sports still sold more than core games.

And this is coming from a guy who owns a Wii ;)

user54670074362d ago (Edited 4362d ago )

I don't like what he said in the beginging about the family being in the same room not being "connected"

I'm sorry but I think with most kids today even young adults like myself who still live at home...we all go upstairs and stay in our rooms to play on our games or go on our PC's or in Summer we are out of the house whether it's at a friends house, parties or a night in town

Usualy the parents are down stairs watching the news or reading a magazine/newspaper.

No offense to my brother or parents...but I don't want to be connected with them. There right in my line of sight most of the time, I could just ask them if I needed something

xCaptainAmazing4362d ago (Edited 4362d ago )

I have to disagree. The image they showed spoke volumes to the average household. Often there are several people in a room dicking around on their phones. I'm not exactly against that, but I can appreciate what they are trying to do here, a lot.

user54670074362d ago (Edited 4362d ago )

Yeah but most gamers would be upstairs on their consoles, with their phones next to them

That picture is not what an average household is

They have everything right, just not the location, kids/parents would most likely be in differen't rooms.

I don't understand the disagrees, if you really think the picture represents what people do then you are living in denial.

smashman984362d ago

@Mike

the picture isn't meant to be taken literally (even though I've definitely seen examples) what Iwata wanted to address was this anti social-ness everyone seems to have now a days i live in the same house as two of my bros my mom and my step dad and we never do anything together. They seem to think its normal which makes me believe maybe it has become normal...

I'd like to see that change

YOUGOTOWNEDLOL4362d ago

Wow Nintendo! you straight up copy the 360 controller! you must be really hungry for the hardcore crowed. Damn copy with no shame!

SKUD4362d ago

I would agree. But only to a certain degree. If the wii motion control scheme hadn't come along MS would of never consider kinect development and making a hard push for the casual market IMO.

Kinect sports titles and games?. Where have we seen that before?. Same goes for Sony. At least they didn't go the WHOLE CHEESE factor of motion control games like MS did.

whitbyfox4362d ago

If it wasn't for Nintendo there would be no 360 so stop talking shite.

YOUGOTOWNEDLOL4362d ago

If it was not for Atari 2600, there would be no Nintendo, so what is your point?

Arnon4362d ago

You do know that Nintendo was founded in 1889, making Hanafuda playing cards, right?

You have an ironic name.

YOUGOTOWNEDLOL4361d ago (Edited 4361d ago )

Because Nintendo been out since 1889,Does not mean they were the first to create video game console! that just mean as a company they been out a long time (look up the year the NES came out, then the Atari) Sega been out since 1940 as a company ( http://www.referenceforbusi... so by your logic, your telling me Nintendo created the whole video game industry since they been out so long. That's why I made that Atari comment. Know your gaming history bro and stop being a brain dead fanboy!

Your right, Yougotowned is ironic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Arnon4360d ago (Edited 4360d ago )

You should re-read your own statement, because that's not what you said in your first comment.

YOUGOTOWNEDLOL Quote:

"If it was not for Atari 2600, there would be no Nintendo"

You got owned, lol.

2 things: Wii U Gamepad still has a resistive screen still, meaning none of those touch demonstrations will be as smooth as they were in the video. And why do those Zombies look like they came from the GameCube?

Wii U, i actually want to like you but you have yet to impress me... hope that changes when i go to E3

DigitalAnalog4362d ago (Edited 4362d ago )

And yet, those "rehashed" franchises are the only ones that have DIFFERENT control schemes that work and revolutionized the gaming industry.

I sorry to say, no other IP "rehashed or not" will ever be able to do that. Name any other franchise that transition from the NES, to the NES, to the N64 to the Wii-mote without losing the gameplay mechanics. The fact that you claimed "rehash" is more than enough proof that this went through your head.

Little did you know but by seeing what you want to see, Nintendo is already changing the market ever so slightly.

DraconicPanda4362d ago

final fantasy changed the control scheme pretty much every time.....just saying.

DigitalAnalog4362d ago (Edited 4362d ago )

Final Fantasy used the same control scheme all the way until the analog stick gave it a 3D move set. But the menu system works exactly the same with different variations.

Mario on the other hand changed the way platform works in a 3D environment, Zelda 64 introduced a had lock targeting system. Skyward Sword had a Wii-motion plus to control the sword. Again, NO IP has ever done that. PERIOD. And you can be rest assured the Nintendo conference will blow everyone away once they start showcasing how their 'franchises' work with the Wii-U.

shoddy4362d ago

Give them a break. As Sony said, Nintendo meant for mostly young audience.

It be great if Sony and Microsoft did pre e3 streams really exciting, this little presentation should have been what nintendos conference last year lol.

That controller was sexy and I'm genuinely excited about the universal remote functionality and communication options.

How Many More Victims, Like Garry's Mod, Will Nintendo's Hurtful Crusade Create?

Hanzala from eXputer: "As Nintendo takes out 20 years' worth of stuff from Garry's Mod, I watch in shock, thinking why it continues to hurt and discourage its fans."

RiseNShine9d ago (Edited 9d ago )

The irony that some of the most disgusting business practices come from companies like Disney or Nintendo, i can't even begin to understand what terrible damage was Garrys Mod making to Nintendo bottom line, imho they're getting pretty nervous about where they're heading in the future, handhelds are no longer something exclusive to Nintendo, from Steam Deck to many others, now you can play the latest games and pay a fraction of the price on Steam sales, so it's up to their exclusives, which just on their own would make hard to justify purchasing a closed overpriced hardware with outrageous price policies (Super Mario Odyssey is still 60 euro 6 years later!), and as a home console they're always underperforming compared to Sony or Xbox.

gold_drake9d ago (Edited 9d ago )

i cam guarantee you, that their exclusives alone is what drives switch sales. they sell in the 10s of millions of copies.

nintendo created their franchises to be sort of nostalgia driven, exclusive only on nintendo.

people will always buy the pkmn games as they always bring in new younger fans amd is family friendly

mario kart, the same thing, mario games in general.

zelda games are system sellers. animal crossing for the casual gamers.

nintendo doesnt need third vame devs essentially. they made sure with the switch and the limitations that they looked more to pc ps and xbox.

its sad, but nintendo is more than fine with what they're doing. they positioned themselves to appeal to the more casual gamers.

but to your point, im not sure why they're doing this rly.

Inverno9d ago

Look at how they handled Nintendo games being streamed or uploaded on YouTube in the past. They killed Yuzu and Citra even when they had nothing to do with ToTK being leaked, not to mention it was basically unplayable on emulation the week it was leaked. Smash Bros tournament, that was fairly recent. They shut down their online services without any care for purchases made. I bought a switch after skipping their last 2 consoles and handhelds but I don't plan on buying anything Nintendo in the future. They take things to the extremes, they legitimately hate their fans. They're honestly right up there with the likes of Acti, EA, and Ubi, only difference is that they disguise themselves as being family friendly all the while being shady.

Nintendo's Massacre Of The 3DS And Wii U Is Finally Complete, Regrettably

Hanzala from eXputer: "The cruel hammer of Nintendo has fallen. Farewell, 3DS and Wii U, you surely brightened my life and many others; you won't be forgotten."
