Senior Producer for Yakuza 4 and Dead Souls at SEGA West leaves the company

SEGAbits: "Yas Noguchi is the Senior Producer who was responsable for bringing over Yakuza 4 and Yakuza: Dead Souls. He also worked on Sonic Generations. Sad day for Yakuza fans, as today is his last day at SEGA. Yeah, doesn’t look very good for Yakuza 5, at least to me. But you never know. If you want to say your goodbyes, you can post them here."
Yeah, doesn’t look very good for Yakuza 5, at least to me
Yakuza 5 releases in 6 months. His work is done. The engine, story, concept, direction is already set in stone.

I'm sure Y5 will make its way west. What would be really great though, is not having to wait a full year.

Kamikaze1354351d ago

I don't know much about the financial standings of the Yakuza series in the West. However, if SEGA was willing to localize a spin-off that didn't do too well in Japan, then I'm sure they will localize the next main entry in the franchise.

With that being said, I hope to see Yakuza 5 get released in the US.

SilverSlug4351d ago

Problem: Yakuza: Dead Souls was already done before SEGA West cut back. Lots of their titles got canceled. They are now doing more digital since their consumer business lost tons of cash.

This is the guy that pushed for 4 to be brought over. Now he is gone.

killerhog4351d ago

With sega restructuring and cutting back on stufff don't be surprise if we DO NOT see a localization. Why would a company thats losing cash therefore restructuring localize a franchise that doesn't do well in the west?

Redempteur4351d ago

@p_Bomb

He was obviously talking about localisation in the west

Hopefully Someone at sega is aware that there are people who want to see Yakuza 5 localised... and if he was teh driving force behind those localisation then the fact that he quits SEGA is a loss IMO..

SilverSlug4351d ago

Yes its done, but there is producers for localizing. Its not easy. Before him there was Yakuza which had bad voice overs, then 2. Then this gen was 3 which had cut stuff.

He is the one that pushed SEGA to bring 4 in a more restored way.

Dead Souls didn't do so hot. It was approved and done before SEGA's tragic news about them cutting back on full releases and focusing more on digital. You can read that here:

The 7 Best Sonic the Hedgehog Games: Racing through Time

Sonic the Hedgehog has a long and turbulent history in videogames, but which are the best games featuring the blue bur?

Rebel_Scum80d ago

Generations over Mania? Please… Generations doesnt have any new ideas in the levels/bosses.

Also a top 7 of Sonic games shouldn’t have any 3D crap and contain at least one of the 8-bit titles.

Sonic CD getting snubbed is weird. Number 1 is definitely interchangable between Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

Snookies1280d ago

Nothing wrong with putting Generations over Mania. Generations had a lot more to it. Mania was just a bit too short, despite how amazing it was. They're both top-tier Sonic games though.

Profchaos80d ago (Edited 80d ago )

I don't think mania was to short given 1,2,3, knuckles were between 1 and 3 hours long.

Mania was 5 hours roughly

However i say the originals feel more repayable because they are so short

Profchaos80d ago (Edited 80d ago )

The 8 bit games were pretty bad overall do you mean the 16 bit ones

Rebel_Scum80d ago

Nope. Sonic 1 & 2 on the master system were great. Dont confuse these with the game gear versions either.

Profchaos80d ago

Top 7 for me
7 cd
6 mania
5 Frontiers
4 sonic 3
3 sonic 1
2 sonic and knuckles
1 sonic 2

persona4chie80d ago

Sometimes I feel like the Sonic Advanced games just didn’t exist with how much it’s always forgotten 😭

Chocoburger78d ago

Even as a Sonic fan, I didn't really care for those games, and getting the Chaos Emeralds were freakin' horrible. Even with an emulator and save states, I didn't have the desire to try. I also didn't like most of the levels or bosses either. Unfortunately, DiMPs aren't good at making Sonic games.

Why the Separation Between Modern and Classic Sonic is a Double-Edged Sword

The divide between both iterations of Sonic is now reaching spin-off territory, and the way Sega is handling it is both a blessing and a curse.

I already own all these digital+physical. So good to see more people will get to enjoy them.

Wonder why Fist of North Star isnt being added

italiangamer638d ago

Because it's not a Yakuza game, simple as that.

CrimsonWing69638d ago

Yep, licensing fees and whatnot.

RpgSama638d ago

So excited about the next Yakuza Like a Dragon I enjoyed that game much more than I thought K would have, went and got the platinum and everything.

IMissJimRyan638d ago

Yeah. I played them on GamePass, but it's good to others play those games.

Mobis-New-Nest638d ago

I'm still wondering why Horizon Forbidden West Delux Edition hasn't been added yet. Still hopeful it might get added in September 2022. Come Sony, do the smart business move and add all your first party games Day 1 on PlayStation Plus Premium.

mkis007638d ago (Edited 638d ago )

How is that smart? you just admitted to want to spend $18 for one month whenever a game comes out rather than $70 per game? Their sales are perfectly fine so low sales isn't a valid reason. Relying on subscription numbers is a losing game. You can't guarantee enough people will sub. 20 million subs doesn't beat 10 million copies sold at $30. (my average of the cost of a game over 3 years) For one game you make 300 million vs for the sub plan at 20 million paying 10 dollars a month (200 million) you have to pay out to all those developers before you can even count your money.

No chance it comes to plus plus this year. It will come when sales die down.

SeTTriP638d ago

This is a dumb idea for a franchise thats almost certain to hit 10mil lifetime.they would lose 10's if not a hundred million dollars.

Two years from now when the horizons, ghost and gow's do come to the service xbox might be in trouble.they have nothing to compete with this line even years down the line.

Its called strategy.

SeTTriP638d ago

I just brought judgement the game is great don't know how I missed it so now I'm planning on buying all the yakuza games so this is great for me.

It's early days but this new service is looking better and better. The full Yakuza series! And with the monthly games this month too. Fantastic month

Muigi638d ago

Never played any of them, good excuse now to try these out.

SegaSaturn669638d ago

That was the only Yakuza game I was missing. Might be the best month of all time for me.
