Netflix breaking out DVD renting to new company, adding video game rentals

XMNR: With the success of Gamefly, some gamers have wondered why Netflix hasn't jumped into the game rental by mail business. Well, the Netflix CEO just announced a big shake-up in the company that is breaking the DVD-by mail rental portion of the business into its own company that will include video game rentals at launch.

Great. I hope this get rid of some of the members on gamefly.

for the longest time i thought they were affiliated with each other. One service for the movie side of things and another for the game side.

it never crossed my mind they were not owned by the same parent company. I mean their service layouts were practically the same so it would only make you think they were owned by the same company.

Go figure.

They will just raise the price calling it a "strategic step"

Wonder if it will have cheaper prices than gamefly.

Direct quote from the blog "There are no pricing changes (we’re done with that!)." First sentence of your comment is invalid.

They say that now, let something happen to the economy like price of video games go up from $60 to $70.

Unless they got some future-proof plan, the price increase is bound to happen eventually, hell look at the worlds' economic status last time I check it isn't overall good.

Beside even if they did change the price, it wouldn't be like they are the first company to go back on their word.

Enate4603d ago

They say no pricing changes but there has been no actual price given for videogame renting yet. So there is nothing to change which is what he was saying. They won't change what they already have going is what the ceo ment.

gamingdroid4602d ago

It is also saying no changes now, not that there won't be changes in the future.

The video game option is in addition....

comments above me are solid proof so many never think outside there country. Anyhow game rentals from them could me more money from Canada i wonder why they haven't tried expanding to Europe before they go totally broke that's a untapped market very few stream services exist over there.

Grown Folks Talk4603d ago

They don't own the content, they just provide the service to access it. Same reason we don't have Sky on our Xbox in NA. It's up to the content providers as far as where they allow distribution.

Any real compitition with gamefly i welcome. I have had gamefly for over a year now & dont have any real interest in gaemarang or whatever the competing brands are, but add netflix based coompany & there mailing turnaround times & gamefly might really have to step up.
