Kotaku: PS3 Breeding Game Has PS2 Level Graphics?

Kotaku reviewed the video for the "Breeding" strategy RPG, Record of Agarest War on the ps3 and had this to say:

"You call this a PS3 game? Sure, we're watching a bad quality internet upload and should really see it first hand, but still. This doesn't even try to push what the hardware is capable of! "Breeding" strategy RPG Record of Agarest War looks more at home on the PlayStation 2 than the PLAYSTATION 3. And even for a PS2 game, it looks cheap. And crappy."

I've never heard of this game.

lonestarmt6051d ago

i have, it looks pretty cool, its an rpg and and the ps3 needs some. Screw this guy, i bet he doesn't think very highly of diseaga either. I love next gen graphics, but their is nothing wrong with 2d, drawn characters. I know its a required taste, but thats what it is, not cheap and crappy, go play a next gen FPS kotaku.

artman6050d ago

it's possible, that they a bunch of geeks and a big fans of MS, nor get paid by MS.

everything about ps3 looks crappy, this is what happen when geeks make a review games.
by the way, kotaku (otaku=geek in japanese) but for sure they have different taste of otaku

midgard2296051d ago

nothings wrong with 2d games, look at odin sphere, disgaea and soul nomad, amazing games and they're 2d, 2d games are different and still very fun, sure 3d graphics are great and can be fun but so can the oldschool 2d. aslong as the 2d doesnt look like a snes game thats fine,

hey wasnt this the game that u have to find a girl to marry then u have a succesor who takes ur place, which is ur son, and he or she becomes is different depending on the girl u marry? like her race and hair color, good or evil???

Douchebaggery6051d ago

i agree that complaining because a game is 2d on ps3 is retarded but there a big difference between beautiful 2d like odin's sphere cheap 2d like soul nomad

Seraphim6051d ago (Edited 6051d ago )

I Strongly Agree!! Gaming shouldn't be about the next greatest thing. ie: PS3/360 with their graphical, physics, etc capabilities. There's nothing wrong with a game like Dragon Quest VIII/Rogue Galaxy, Disgaea, Odin Sphere, or even Okami style game on the PS3 or 360. Every style and type of game should be represented. And just as important as the big mega titles like Bioshock, Killzone 2, Assassins Creed, are the games like Disgaea, Shin Megami Tensei, etc. These games should co-exist with the modern marvels on next gen consoles. Granted, in HD, but their style should be represented. Matter of fact look at Disgaea 3 even. It's nothing more than PS2 Disgaea in High Definition. I certainly wouldn't and won't be complaining about that. It'll be the 3rd Disgaea title I buy on day ONE...

sandip7876051d ago

no offence but this does look like it could be done on ps2, or even ps1 for that matter. not that im a graphics whore, but it just doesnt look all that to me

lonestarmt6051d ago

if your not, then why doest it matter to you?? lol its an 2d rpg, some people just don't like those games. This review of the video is the perfect example on whats going wrong with reviews these days. You got a guy reviewing that obvious doesn't understand how the whole genre thing works. Get fans of the games to review it.

sandip7876051d ago

what the hell do you mean 'doesnt matter to you'?.
im open to all games, so dont tell me what i should and shouldnt be looking at on my favourite console..
yeh your right, im not big on the whole 2d rpg scene, but so what, does this mean i cant have an opinion?
btw i said im NOT a graphics whore, meaning i dont play games for graphics, which is surely how you need to think when playing these games.
and i dont really think i reviewed it, i merely said it doesnt look all that, but im sure that if i ever had to review the game then i may enjoy it. god im sick of genre fanboys who hate on those who dont know as much about it....

lonestarmt6051d ago

what the hell do you mean"god im sick of genre fanboys who hate on those who don't know as much about it.... " jj I was just saying if graphics aren't that important to you then you wouldn't have said it looks like a ps1 one game. It just sounded like you weren't a fan of the genre. Which is ok, no one is telling you to like it. In fact I said that in my post I think. lol. The reason fans of a certain genre do that to people who don't know or understand it or whatever you want to call it, is because they are sick of them bashing the game or giving it a bad review when obviously there not a fan of the genre to begin with, so they really shouldn't have say on anything about the game. Not saying you are, but there a lot of ignorant people out there, who think only there opinion matters.

sandip7876051d ago

ok man sorry for being a bit aggresive :)
i get defensive when anyone says anything about MGS lol
and i do agree with you on the review thing, it should be people that know about the series reviewing it, not people who dont know about/dislike it.

lonestarmt6051d ago

hey man, NP. I didn't mean to come of calling you anything. I agree i can get defensive too. MGS is sacred to me too! giving you a bubble !!

sandip7876051d ago (Edited 6051d ago )

lol thanks man, bubbles right back at ya :)

Mugen Souls Retro Review – Sexy Demon Space Adventure

Gary Green said: We have a juxtaposition of 2D and 3D visuals, flashy turn-based combat, quirky anime characters with cheeky dialogue with plenty of partial nudity; Yes, this is a Compile Heart JRPG. Whilst the engine is borrowed from Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, Mugen Souls is more of a Disgaea spin-off. It’s not a strategy RPG as such, it merely sits within Disgaea’s ever-expanding universe (Multiverse? Netherverse? Your guess is as good as mine). You won’t find cameos though, since Mugen Souls is a franchise which aims to stand on its own two feet.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies23h ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken18h ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing691d 10h ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker1d 9h ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo1d 9h ago (Edited 1d 9h ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing691d 9h ago (Edited 1d 9h ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos1d 6h ago (Edited 1d 6h ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt21h ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken18h ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos1d 15h ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto1d 14h ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger881d 14h ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).

ChasterMies1d 4h ago

Trevor in GTA 6 is a sadist and psychopath who dabbles in cannibalism. Should be top of the list. These game “news” sites should hire people that know games.
