only tip of the iceberg, if you ask me

LORD-PHOENIX4894d ago (Edited 4894d ago )

this article comes from vgchartz..

CrzyFooL4894d ago

Is run by Sonic the Hedgehog!!

A HAHA!! A HAHA!! A HAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!

ChrisW4894d ago

A better question might be, "How broken is N4G?"

mikeslemonade4894d ago

How broken is gaming journalism? They give GT5 a 86.17 avg. score. That is straight up broken if you ask me.

MegaPowa4894d ago

@mike

That's not broken its just an honest review. Something we need more around here.

HolyOrangeCows4894d ago (Edited 4894d ago )

LOL, they took some of the worst sites to examine possible.

Not to mention, this is made by VGchartz.

Edit: Nice article. Not that I needed this article to know, but LOL @ Kotaku; they're full of crap.

anh_duong4894d ago

new year's resolution for journalist:

stop screwing the readers by over-rating games.. under rating games is not so bad but over rating games is spineless because it screws the people who you ought to really look after

stop prostituting yourself to the games publishers.. for example, stop reviewing games and have adverts for the game on the same page..

stop inciting fanboyism

start playing the games properly before reviewing the games

stop making up news using fictitious sources

impossible tasks?? well we can always wish..

How did my favorite site stack up?

Those three aren't my favorite; not even close.

Godmars2904894d ago (Edited 4894d ago )

Ironic that this is coming from vgchartz who's stories - and numbers - get questioned as much if not more than Kotaku.

@spdk1:
Do you work at vgchartz? Submitted this story? Cause those are the only reason I can think of that someone would call my my comment trolling.

Everytime someone posts numbers from vgchartz, PS3 or 360, the other side calls BS. Its a sad annoying fact of this site.

Duke_Silver4894d ago (Edited 4894d ago )

And this has what to do with anything in the article? quit trolling.

EDIT: you changed what you originally said, but you're still trolling, this is from gamrFeed, one of the sub-sites of VGchartz, not the numbers site. How does whining about numbers make any sense?

I'd like to see one instance of anything that gamrfeed does that is worse than "OMG HERE IS A CELEBRITY NEXT TO AN X-BOX" posted as news from Kotaku.

EDIT: I did not post this story, I just got annoyed by folks brushing this aside without reading it, the guy supported his ideas pretty well. instead I see folks going "lame vgchartz...lol" I actually really like that site and their news blog is one of the better ones out there. these guys get put on NPR, wall street journal, are cited on guiness world records, and fanboys still whine....

Godmars2904894d ago

I read up to the Sterling quote but didn't feel like going over the whole essay.

He's right, gaming "journalism" is wholly compromised, but that nor NPR using them doesn't their rep *Here*. 360 fanboys are going to complain about their PS3 number and PS3 fanboys are going to complain about their 360 numbers. Me, I wonder why it takes their number site months to change console numbers after they've been publicly announced by their companies. And they never seem to match up or even come close.

I'm just annoyed that in accusing me of trolling, of stating the obvious from a site who's reputation isn't perfect, that you're trolling. That the only point of your comment was not only to troll, but to whine because you're a fanboy of that site.

Surly at the very least you have to appreciate that irony...

Duke_Silver4894d ago (Edited 4894d ago )

@ Godmars

that's fine - I fully accept the fact that calling you out was basically counter-trolling, but if you parrot off crap others say without reading an article you are no better than the other patrons of a site in which you so eloquently condemn:

"Everytime someone posts numbers from vgchartz, PS3 or 360, the other side calls BS. Its a sad annoying fact of this site."

I could care less about the popular opinion about a site the writer is from, what I am "whining" about is a general mentality of folks that can't be arsed to read a damn article on here, and seem to share the same opinion just for the sake of "fitting in".

also you keep bringing up "numbers" from this sites sister site, what he crap do they have to do with an article like this, your just finding justification for your post.

ssdninja4894d ago

What's even better is that this article is actually a semester-long final project. Considering I have nothing to do with the numbers of vgchartz, it's even separated further by being something produced not originally intended for the site at all. I wanted to get the research out there so I decided to publish it.

Ironic? Or just jumping to conclusions?

WharenPeace4894d ago

I'm merely curious, why did you not focus on the bigger sites, like IGN and Gamespot (especially since they portray themselves as actual game journalist sites)? I don't think I've ever seen either of the gamer blogs hinting that they were not biassed (or I could be wrong)?

visualb4894d ago

yeah I agree its ironic. but if i'm not mistaken VGChartz is kind of blog based? (ala WordpresS) so anyone can write an article?

I could be wrong...point being, the article does have a point

as I've said, VGCharts loses all credibility when talking about sales or itself.

in this case, it does have a point, and although the chart lacks actual evidence, its pretty obvious:

KOTAKY, DESTRUCTOID AND GAMESRADAR ARE JOKE SITES - they can NEVER be taken seriously. they are retarded blogger fanboys like most users on this site.

if you haven't figured this out by now you are new to gaming websites.

ktchong4894d ago

Haven't paid attention to gaming in a long while.

Let me guess: a high-profile PS3 exclusive has just been released, and it's been receiving less-than-stellar review scores. So now it must be the bias and fault of the "journalists".

Something still stays the same.

Cratos87804894d ago (Edited 4894d ago )

"Let me guess: a high-profile PS3 exclusive has just been released, and it's been receiving less-than-stellar review scores. So now it must be the bias and fault of the "journalists"."

What has Gran Turismo got to with this article, troll?

visualb4894d ago

"Haven't paid attention to gaming in a long while. "

it shows....keep it that way please =| you aren't contributing anything positive.

and next time, read the article instead of being a ***** *** *****

Ponurasky4894d ago

Gaming journalism is broken beyond words. They even shouldn't be called "journalist" in the first place.

Ilikegames764894d ago

More like fanboys masquerading as journalists.

NJShadow4894d ago

What a great write-up! OK, now this is one example of gaming journalism done right. Granted, it has to do with other sites, but this was an excellent read!

suicidalblues4894d ago

Totally agree. One of the best articles written in months.

Microsoft’s Surface and Xbox hardware revenues take a big hit in Q3

Microsoft just posted the third quarter of its 2024 fiscal financial results. The software maker made $61.9 billion in revenue and a net income of $21.9 billion during Q3. Revenue is up 17 percent, and net income has increased by 20 percent.

Xbox content + services up 62% while hardware down 31%... seems about right with the way they tout you don't need the hardware to play. People can play on their phones or smart tv or other means. I don't hardly play on my consoles directly since getting devices like the logitech g-cloud and ps portal. Which is to also say I have been playing more digital than physical because of these devices.

solideagle1h ago

you should apply in MS PR team buddy, I think you will do a great job in my humble opinion :)

Cacabunga1h ago

I can tell people like you are an absolute minority..

If service is up means their fans and fanboys accepted this model and subscribed to it. The near future you will see a big decline because the service is saturated.

shinoff218317m ago

But that's been ms for years. When things aren't going their way they try to change the way things are said. For instance console sales are down, they stop telling how many sold instead telling us how many hours spent in halo or headshots. So it makes sense console sales down just say people are playing on more devices then previous. What they won't say is how many xbox players jumped ship to ps5.

Xbox hardware revenue tanks to lowest point of Xbox Series generation

Profchaos3h ago

I'm not surprised surface is struggling they aren't relevant anymore

XBManiac2h ago

Too expensive hardware when others offer the same or more for less? Good work, Green Team.

SimpleDad2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

"Despite some early successes for Xbox games on rival platforms, Xbox hardware is down by a massive 31 percent this quarter."
"Without Activision Blizzard, Microsoft’s overall gaming revenue would have actually declined this quarter."
"Xbox content and services would have only been up a single percent without Activision Blizzard..."
"It looks like next quarter is going to be a similar story for gaming at Microsoft, too."

That is crazy... so A/B/K is carrying the whole Xbox gaming.
Oh and Microsoft will be fine. Windows, Office and Cloud are growing with each pc purchase.

purple1012h ago

Activision: "we gonna need a bigger rucksack/backpack please"

Microsoft: "why's that"

Activision: "to carry yo' weak ass'

Profchaos1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

Top brass have also wanted to start seeing returns on the 100 billion they have put into various Xbox related moves so seeing more multiplatform games is highly likely especially from abk

It's basically saying that PlayStation is the reason Xbox is afloat right now thinks to Ps5 versions of COD

Kornholic18m ago

So basically PS and PC gamers' money is keeping Xbox on life support.

Why Monopolies In Gaming Must Not Be Allowed

As of right now, there are no monopolies in the games industry, and for the sake of the medium as a whole, they never should either.

thorstein13h ago

Shouldn't be allowed in any field.

Inverno9h ago

And yet the biggest tech companies in America are essentially that. They buy up all the small comps only to kill them off and steal what they have, and if they can't buy em they bleed them to death.

jwillj2k48h ago

Eventually they’ll realize the value is with the employee not the company. Buying an IP means nothing if the people who contributed are let go. They’ll get it one day.

MrCrimson7h ago

tech is different because they buy threats and then kill them. Twitter bought Vine and did nothing with it. Despite people seemingly liking it. Could've had tiktok a decade before bytedance. go figure.

Zenzuu8h ago

Monopolies shouldn't be allowed regardless. Not just for gaming.

MrCrimson7h ago

They buy IPs not talent. That's why these buyouts never work and the IPs die. Right now it's too expensive to develop games - but I expect that to shift maybe as AI tools can make it easier. The best games have been indie games for awhile as big developers fuck their ips to death with "games as a service" -
