PlayStation Official Magazine – Review Scores (UK) [September: Issue 35]

It's that time of the month again; all you lucky OPM UK subscribers should be in possession of the latest September issue this morning. For all you less fortunate people, here are the review scores, hot off the press, including a "world exclusive review" of the new Batman.

I thought that Batman: AA had already been reviewed by GamesMaster? No matter, they're both owned by Future Publishing.

STEVIE_5380d ago

But on the cover of OPM is says "World Exclusive Review". They may be lying.

andron5380d ago (Edited 5380d ago )

GM reviewed the 360 version, and OPM is of course playing the PS3 version. So it might be technically right that they are both world exclusive on that format.

Either way, I'm pumped for this game...

ABizzel15380d ago

The Big new isn't Batman: AA getting a 9/10. No the big new is Harry Potter getting an 8/10 (Harry Potter is running for the best movie game ever title) *end sarcasm*

nintenflo5379d ago

Yeah i have got the latest issue of GM they give it a massive 96%, the games out this month i believe so might be worth a look!

That the Ps3 version of Batman: AA is going to be great, pity about the xbox 360 version though.....

Don't be gamers, be haters :D

Raf1k15380d ago (Edited 5380d ago )

Did I miss something? What's wrong with the 360 version?

edit: That was the only thing I remember that was different between the two. Thanks for the reply.

andron5380d ago

Except it's missing the Joker as a playable character. He's just having a laugh...

So I guess the rumors about Eidos review tampering for Arkham Asylum were true. Giving the 'excuslive first review' and cover story to any magazine willing to give it a 9 or higher. EpicBattleAxe was right. Just look for a magazine with an exclusive on the review with a score 9 or higher, pretty much the exact requirements Eidos supposedly sent out to numerous magazines that wanted the cover story.

Too bad, cause the game looks like it probably deserves a high score anyways. Dunno why they resort to these types of things, like that whole Kane and Lynch fiasco.

STEVIE_5380d ago

Reviews are merely opinion. There are reasons why this particular reviewer (Nathan Ditum) gave Batman a 9.

mastiffchild5380d ago

I've got my issues with OPM UK but I don't, for a minute, believe they'd take a bung for a right to review a multi early. They're pretty fair, when most PS mags were giving 10/10 to KZ2 they went with a 9/10 and they often do similar.

A good multi platform game with PS3 DLC is unlikely to have them go rogue now ,is it?

Megaton5380d ago

I wouldn't put it past any publication. I even have suspicions about IGN's GTAIV exclusive review, and I've been a user at their site for over a decade, since before they were even IGN.

callahan095380d ago (Edited 5380d ago )

Even if the Eidos exclusive requirements of a 9 out of 10 allegations are true, it doesn't mean that magazines publishing an exclusive review of the game, giving it a 9 out of 10, are selling out. Their integrity could theoretically be in tact. If they played the game and decided to give it a 9 on its own merits, then why not cash in on the opportunity to publish your review early. I can't imagine this particular magazine, which has a history of being harsh, giving a game a high score just to publish a review a little bit early, and on a multiplatform game to boot. It's probably what I said: they decided on a 9 out of 10, which just so happens to place them in a position to be able to publish their review early, so they're publishing it early.

so did OPM have to give Batman:arkam asylum a prefect score to get the exclusive, thats what I heard had been offered to reviewers, give it a great score get the embargo lifted early

callahan095380d ago

Incredible score for Batman. This magazine is always pretty harsh with their reviews. They aren't one to give out 10's very frequently, and so a 9 from them is at least as impressive as a 5 out of 5 from X-Play (for instance).

I'm surprised The Punisher scored higher than Topatoi. In the States, the Punisher didn't do well in reviews, but I thought I'd heard some good things about Topatoi. Oh well.

Battlefield Legacy - Sunsetting Announcement

EA: "As we close in on 15 years since the release of Battlefield 1943, and Bad Company™ 1 & 2, we are announcing that their journey is coming to an end."

darthv72402d ago

This reminds me... I have ME on my PS3 hdd. Never really played it, but it was free.

XiNatsuDragnel402d ago

Digital future ppl is good they say nope imo

Eidolon401d ago

And it still says nothing about being able to downloaded even when it's off the storefront, that's a huge ouchie for some who somehow still have it in their backlog...

Shane Kim401d ago

Dont make it an issue when it's not. If you haven't played it in 15 years, chances are you'll never play it.

isarai402d ago

That all digital future sure looks great!

zidane1341401d ago (Edited 401d ago )

Online game servers shut off eventually all the time. Doesn’t matter if you have the disc or not. Even if you have the disc, it’ll be just paperweight unless the game lets you connect directly to a friend or LAN play.

isarai401d ago (Edited 401d ago )

Read the article bro. They are delisting the games, including mirrors edge which is an offline game. Online servers i can understand, not being able to buy/download the games anymore? Completely separate issue, especially seeing as how some these games had lengthy sp campaigns and not just mp.

zidane1341401d ago

@israrai, you can still buy the disc for less then 10$. Hardly a loss.

TheEnigma313401d ago

You shouldn't have to buy the disc, that's the issue.

OhReginald401d ago (Edited 401d ago )

Some brilliant minds created servers to keep these old online games alive. A lot of ps2 and ps3 games that had there servers shut down a long time ago have been restored by fans to keep it going. Warhawk, killzone 2, socom 2/ confrontation, resident evil outbreak series, etc.

DankSinatra401d ago

The disc still exist. I don’t understand the issue. You guys are upset about that “all digital future” yet these games are not “digital only”. Hell digital only is a minority in the gaming world and so far we haven’t moved into it, the only digital only games are games as a service or online only games, which end up failing in the end.

This is no different than a store that stops selling old games, just go and buy a copy somewhere else. So which is it, you hate all digital or you like it? Make up your mind.

isarai401d ago

Talk about missing the point entirely. I'm not going to sit here and explain it to you, figure it out.

DankSinatra401d ago

Talk about whining about something and not wanting to explain from an off handed sarcastic original comment.

I got the point just fine. You’re literally complaining about something that has an easy alternative to it.

ManMarmalade400d ago

I don't think you got the point

DankSinatra400d ago (Edited 400d ago )

@ManMarmalade

No I got it, it has to do with the push towards a future of all digital and reprocussions of losing games. Something I already stayed that hasn’t happened nor is it large enough right now to cause any issues as the games that are all digital are online only to begin with or make up the minority of games

So I’ll say it again, the disc still exists for these games that are over a decade old and can still be played easily. You guys are contradicting the whole “we don’t want a digital only future” crying when the dude I originally responded to stated:

“Read the article bro. They are delisting the games, including mirrors edge which is an offline game. Online servers i can understand, not being able to buy/download the games anymore? Completely separate issue, especially seeing as how some these games had lengthy sp campaigns and not just mp.“

So again, which is it? Do you hate all digital or do you want it?

Inverno401d ago

On PC I don't think it's much of a problem but I'm sad to see BF43 being shut down. I haven't played it in a while since it's stuck on PS3, but i preferred it way more over BF3. It was the lack of invisible barriers which made it better for me.

badz149401d ago

BFBC2 was still the best overall package offered by the franchise so far IMO

porkChop401d ago

Absolutely. BC2 was such a great game. It's a shame we never got BC3.

P_Bomb400d ago

I had a great run on Bad Company 2. Pound for pound, as solid a BF package as there’s been.

InUrFoxHole401d ago

Does anyone play the last BF anymore? I searched crossplay servers and it was 20 people the most on all the servers? Can never find a game

SonyStyled401d ago

The last BC you mean? I was still able to find 10v10 on ps3 2 years ago on NA servers during the evenings. I have all the free and paid dlc installed, but there want any matches in the Vietnam dlc.

Top 20 Soundtracks From the 16-Bit Era

In the 16-bit era, game devs and composers could finally change the type of tones used in the music, simulating a wider array of instruments and creating a whole lot of great soundtracks in the process.

It wasn’t easy picking out the best of the best because there were so many great ones. Even middle-of-the-road soundtracks seemed to deserve a bump if the game was just that damn good, and so many from that era are that damn good!

Here's the Ghetto Gamer list of top 20 soundtracks from the 16-bit era.
