If this console can defeat both Sony and Microsoft, under Valve's auspices it might usher in a new age of creativity, fun and honesty in the videogames industry.

I might actually buy this instead of a Ps4 if it gets games and game franchises that I like...

There is a trend in development of games
and how its going to effect this part of the market FROM NOW ON!

as an example:

Ed Fries then went onto one of the major hurdles developers have when creating content for home consoles by referencing Xbox Live’s infamous $40,000 patch cost:

Now you’ve got guys who make games like Fez who can’t do an update to their game because it costs too much, if that game was on iOS that wouldn’t be a problem, but because it’s on XBLA it’s a problem. Those kinds of ideas have to go away in the next generation. They’ll go away in Ouya, they’ll go away if Apple brings some kind of product into this space, the console makers like Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, they have to respond to that, it’s just the future.

Gabe knows first hand about the problems moving forward in this market, and do you think Valve is not going to TRY TO AVOID SUCH PITFALL'S?

From the sounds of this after reading a Kotaku article, the hardware will be pretty much set and will rum Steam on Linux. But I wonder if I will be able to have the same experience on my PC. I assume it'll be something with proprietary features to drive sales while PC users can get the same experience but no all the bells and whistles. I guess we'll see.

You sons of.....

I can see it now. Half-life 3, exclusive to SteamboxPCconsolething ....and I'll buy it too. I'll buy it if that's the only game released for the thing and it looks exactly like the last one graphically. Damn you Valve.

Comments are far more entertaining that the actual article. You've got your idiots, your trolls, and then the people that swear they have everything figured out. Can't forget your optimists though. They play an important role even if they are becoming extinct.

218 comments and I didnt see one that mentions Gabe Newells weight!
I take it that means he got our attention.

might be a good idea, but only a handful of people will buy it because xbox, nintendo and sony are childhood brands that everyone knows about, valve isn't a name you exactly have known about your whole life unless you've kept up to date on them, the general public already is used to xbox, nintendo and sony, as the three "gaming companies".

trust me it will barely sell, to mostly the pc community and a bit of the other consoles communities.

QUESTION!!!! Im very confused, will this "console" be having a disc drive or not? Because we ALL know STEAM is basically a digital content service ONLY!!!

And one would need to at least launch this console with a 2TB drive if you wanna dowload everything and leave it on the drive...
