Hype And Critical Acclaim–Why It Sucks

Hype and critical acclaim is a sure fire way to kill a game’s reputation. With the recent media and consumer backlash surrounding The Last of Us Remastered, conversations have shifted focus from whether or not a PS4 translation was necessary and have instead migrated on to the real meat and bones; is The Last of Us good? Certainly, the original release on the Playstation 3 has received hundreds of awards and became one of the most notable releases of the past generation and will probably be remembered for years to come. Do I personally like The Last of Us? Yes, I do. I think it’s one of the high water marks of the gaming industry thus far, though that doesn’t mean all the acclaim it has received is warranted or even fair to Naughty Dog.

Interesting article.
Critical acclaim, reviews, and awards and such are just opinions. Not every one will agree.
Hype is something created by the media, developers and publishers to drive sales. In order to sell, you have to advertise and promote. Sometimes it means that things are exaggerated or falsified in order to gain interest (bullshots, CG passed off as gameplay, trailers or gameplay shown on 'equivalent hardware').
Some of us fall for it, some don't.

It is a survival game. Going in guns blazing is not the most opportune thing to do. In a situation like that, being as stealthy as possible while conserving resources is the smart thing to do. I don't recall ever dying repeatedly because of the AI or the game being unfair. I completed it on Survivor difficulty and every death was due to my lack of skill as opposed to anything the game did to uneven the odds against my favor. Your complaints of not being able to shoot your way through are unwarranted as it is PRIMARILY a stealth game with the opportunity to get out of alive if you are caught provided you are good enough instead of failing immediately as in other stealth games like the original Splinter Cell.

Said it first ^^
Though I admit when I got it at launch last year, my ass got handed to me repeatedly until I learned how it plays. After that I had zero issues. Then after the first playthrough and you do a New Game+, you can virtually beat it without even dying.

Sega sells Relic and will cut 240 jobs across UK studios

GamesIndustry.biz writes: "Relic is best known for the Company of Heroes and Dawn of War games, and recently developed the new Age of Empires for Microsoft. Relic will transition to an independent studio and will no-longer be part of the Sega group of studios.

The majority of the 240 job cuts are across Creative Assembly and Sega Europe, while there will be a ‘small number’ cut from Sega HARDLight. There was no mention of other Sega UK studios, including Two Point Studios and Sports Interactive."

Shame about Creative Assembly, they should have just been allowed to do an Alien Isolation sequel.

It was that garbage coh 3 that did them in only a special team can make a sequel worse in every way even though it was a 10 year gap and the same era.

gold_drake29d ago

I hope they find new jobs in the industry soon.

Two Point Studios and Sports Interactive probably run on a shoe string budget so that fits into SEGA better lol

Sega had such a turbulent existence from the mid-90s to when they dropped out of console manufacturing entirely in 2001, it’s understandable if you’ve never heard of the Genesis Nomad.
