Young Horses, Inc.
The Young Horses were unofficially formed in 2011 at GDC. After being nominated as a Student Showcase Winner for Octodad 8 of the 18 original creators decided to form a company to make a bigger and better Octodad.

Young Horses strives to push the boundaries of game design in order to create experiences that players have not seen before - they think that innovation is necessary to reach new, broader audiences. With the goal of creating innovative, intelligent, and charming entertainment that can be enjoyed by both children and adults, Octodad and Octodad: Dadliest Catch were born.

Octodad: Dadliest Catch is a game about destruction, deception, and fatherhood. The player controls Octodad, a dapper octopus masquerading as a human, as he goes about his life. Octodad's existence is a constant struggle, as he must master mundane tasks with his unwieldy boneless tentacles while simultaneously keeping his cephalopodan nature a secret from his human family.

Mini Q&A
Answers by Kevin Zuhn, Creative Director

Why do you make games?
I make games because I want to entertain people, and I want to understand people. I am also fascinated by systems and interactions and the act of unraveling spaces. Games, more so than books and movies, demand cooperation between me and my players, and give room for expression from all of us. Seeing fan work and watching Let’s Plays of Octodad has been the most gratifying part of the whole experience.

Why should people play Octodad?
People should play Octodad because it’s funny and heartwarming and made with love. It’s got a unique control scheme and a wiggly-bodied octopus for a main character. You can also play it together with your friends and family!

What element of game design do you hold above all others?
I believe in being open-ended. Not just in terms of level designs, but for mechanics and narratives as well. There should be room inside your system for experimentation, wonder, and player participation. I like worlds that have secrets, and stories that have mysteries. I still want something that’s been built with care, and I don’t mind linearity, but the player’s presence in the world should mean something.
