This could have been Nintendo’s year — should have been Nintendo’s year.
And in a sense, it was Nintendo’s year, though it took some doing to get here. No one was supposed to buy the company’s shiny aqua-blue or whatchamacallit-black 3DS when it arrived back in February 2011 with a clamshell thud. Handheld gaming was doomed, proclaimed analysts like smug armchair oracles. Who’d want a bulky plastic pocket-brick that played games and games alone when they could play on their slender all-in-one smartphone — a device on which games exist in a kind of superabundant app-store-verse and typically sell for a buck or less?
Hanzala from eXputer: "The cruel hammer of Nintendo has fallen. Farewell, 3DS and Wii U, you surely brightened my life and many others; you won't be forgotten."
Hanzla from eXputer inquires: "If Xbox can care about preserving its games and legacy, what exactly is wrong with Nintendo, trying to kill game preservation single-handedly?"
Ahh yes the good old game preservation of saving all your games to a removable hhd on the Xbox 360, taking it round your mates house, setting up multiple tvs to
Be met with “save data corrupted, please re download”
Or how about removing 360 games
From the store
, download them now or else, and, better hope to god that save data doesn’t corrupt, or it’s lost for ever
Nice one ☝️
This is just a scammy PR move to distract from the fact they are going digital only and trying to push streaming and subscriptions only.
No gaming company has pushed harder to remove ownership than Microsoft.
Without discs there is no preservation, preservation can't be done by the rights holders it can only be done by the consumers, anything else is a lie.
Nobody wants this. Sales or the lack of it in the case of XBOX is very telling. I wonder how the adorably all digital series X will fare. Adorably dismal perhaps?
Only time will tell, but for from someone like me suspecting that Xbox is trying to gracefully exit the console market, that "forward compatibility" team is trying to get Xbox games playing on Windows PCs. I mean, it's nice that they're not planning on exiting with a "enjoy your games while the hardware still works" message, so that's nice. They still have a brand to protect via Microsoft so probably feel obligated to have a better exit strategy.
VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "10 years. It’s been almost 10 years since the last mainline release in the Mario Kart series. Mario Kart 8 came out for the Wii U in 2014 and became the best-selling game for the system by a sizeable margin, and later pulled the same magic trick on the Nintendo Switch under the stage name Deluxe. All in all, it's sold nearly 70 million copies over the last decade and is still selling like hot cakes to this day, so it’s no wonder Nintendo has been in no rush to replace it. However, with rumors of a new system being just around the corner, and reports a few years back that a new Mario Kart is indeed under way, it seems the era of 8 might very well be drawing to a close. It’s an exciting prospect to be sure, but after two Nintendo systems with Mario Kart 8 at their heart, a lot of questions remain about how Nintendo will choose to follow it up."
I hope they just keep building on Mario Kart 8; Add a track-creation tool, and probably open it up to more Nintendo IPs with new tracks and characters, so Metroid, Punch Out, Starfox, Animal Crossing, etc etc.
there wont be a new one until the switch 2 comes out.
nintendo needs their bangers early on
Why I won't buy a WII U not enough New IP'S that.
I have WiiU and a Ps4 and I'm enjoying Nintendo's console so much more right now.
That's not to say that won't change, but with MarioKart, Bayo2, Smash and "X" just around the corner... well..
I'm rooting for Xbox, cuz they seem to be the underdog right now.
The article has valid points, you need to read it if you are still on the fence, but if you already have a Wii U and especially now with the release of Pikmin3 , WW HD, Wonderful 101 and SM3DW, you know that it Rocks! I am totally enjoying mine now and it's keeping me off Steam except for playing the newly released Deadly Premonition DC.
I just got a PS4 last week, so sure, maybe I have been giving the old parallelogram some extra love, but it's a new toy to me, so naturally I am going to want to play it.
But I still have a huge backlog of games I have to finish on my Wii U it's ridiculous. Pikmin 3, Rayman, Wind Waker HD, W101, Lego Marvel Superheroes and SM3DW... I have no clue when I will find the time to squeeze it all in, but with just the Wii U alone, I know I have a ton of quality games there to play.
I only have BF4 at the moment for my PS4. I may end up getting KZ before the year is out, but I don't plan on buying anything else on the PS4 until Infamous drops. That will give me tons of time to catch up on my Wii U.
Traded my wii u in towards my ps4. Mario and zelda was fun as a youngster but I outgrew those type of games. I play some mario kart on my 3dxl sometimes and probably will get smash bros for it. But the wii u was just collecting dust beside my ps3 and 360. It had to go.
