Smart Device Gaming: A Threat To Console Gaming? I Don’t Think So.

Are smartphones and tablets a real threat to the handhelds and consoles, or is it the other way around? Nintendo Enthusiast examine the matter here.

I thought this had been long established. Well, with the dominance of the 3DS and rapidly gaining momentum of the Vita.
Moving forward, the potentially record breaking sales of the Sony PS4, etc.
Plenty of sound logic as well, among other things. As much as "some people" would like you to believe otherwise.

Sorry I didn't get to cover the PS4 and Xbox One more (time constraints). Two topics I didn't get to discuss were Sony's unique approach to indie games (Between The Witness and Daylight and others, they've picked out some nice indie games) as well as Microsoft restructuring their indie policies to be more indie friendly.

I think we're going to see a noticeable change this generation.

what has happened is very freaking simple: and it has nothing really to do with the gaming market as the center OF THE DEBATE.

what has happened is the Smartphone and Tablet Market has disrupted the gaming market indirectly , exactly like what happened to the dedicated PDA market!

will that remove the Dedicated Handheld Game console completely off the market, most likely that Answer is a Big No.

but to think the Game console or the handheld game console Market is going to be the priority device over a general computing platform like the smartphone or the Tablet, lol its not happening.

for very simple reason's the Tablet and Smartphone market is like the PC market is to the Game console market.

for one the 3DS is an dual core Arm 11 SOC with a single core PICA 200 GPU. with 128MB OF SYSTEM RAM,AND 6MB of dedicated GPU video ram.

while

the PSVita, is a Quad core cortex A9 soc, with 512MB of system ram, and a Quad Core SGX543MP4+ gpu WITH 128mb OF DEDICATED GPU RAM!

the thing is they are both Arm holding's Arm powered chipset's. Guess what 97% of all smartphones and Tablets are also powered by? yup you guessed it Arm Holding's Arm powered chipset's.

Here is the really big thing, by the time it takes SONY OR NINTENDO TO SELL 12 TO 15 MILLION PER CONSOLE A YEAR OF ANYONE TYPE OF SYSTEM THEY SELL.

SMARTPHONES AND TABLETS, ALREADY HAVE DISRUPTED THIS MARKET BECAUSE ON A SALES QUARTER BY SALES QUARTER. THEY ARE OUTPACING CONSOLES BY 10 TO 1

IN 10 years time, consoles are lucky to reach maybe 150 million install base.

in that length of time, smartphones and tablets are over 300 million units sold a year! not in 10 years time, we are talking over a year. since most are 97% running Arm Powered chipsets where is the main 3rd party development and publisher's are going to go for platform priority?

one only has to follow the Money!

This is not a slight against DEDICATED GAME CONSOLE HANDHELDS THIS IS JUST THE BLUNT TRUTH OF THE MATTER, THE SAME DISRUPTION HAPPENED TO DEDICATED PDA's.

100% exactly, the fact that all of them are using Arm Holding's Chipset's that is the real blunt truth, where do you think 3rd party Game engines will be made for which platforms?

Its all of them People! Smartphones and Tablets are in this part of the market to stay, that does not mean existing or future dedicated Gaming Handheld console's have no place or vice versa, it just means the market is pretty much a unified market for handheld device development for games anyway. they all have touch screens, you could use a stylus with all of them even on the PSVita!

you can add a physical bluetooth game pad to smartphones an tablets. so really there is not much of a point in trying to look at one device killing another because pretty much from a development standpoint they are pretty much all the same chipset core development base. barring physical spec's limits for each platform. the core development Api's will be the same along with the middle ware.
