Console MMOs - A Love/Hate Relationship

I have two passions in the video game world: MMOs and my home console. While PC gamers have been enjoying MMOs for years, console gamers have been handed the bone. As we approach a new generation of consoles, we have to wonder if they can finally deliver a proper MMO experience to console gamers.

PC MMOs have to cater highly variety of PC spec, that holds them from pushing the Gameplay & Graphics further. With stable Console, MMOs developer can push the Game to the limit of the Consoles.

Agree MMO players show how behind the PC market is behind in terms of gaming capablities. A lot of gpu in peoples computers cant handle MMOs and lag during heavy load of people. I have a gaming PC that can handle any MMO but I would say only like 5% of the people I play with on various MMOs can. MMOs on consoles would increase the user base of people who can actually handle and enjoy the gameplay. The only thing developers would have to do is allow mouse and keyboard on console versions as I think thats the only way to play a MMO. Also I believe cross-platform is a must if not I probably wouldnt bother w/ a console MMO that has the same PC version D3 being the perfect example of that not being cross-platform.

Yeah because graphics make a game.. give me a deep complex and engaging non watered down combat system with loads of skills over graphics thanks.

Games like Planetside 2 are perfect for consoles but games like WoW just won't work with a controller.

Nobody said gfx makes the game but it always helps and if you disagree its either because you dont have a gaming PC yourself to know the difference or just being ignorant on the matter. I played a lot of low quality gfx MMO titles that my gpu could remax the settings probably 3-4x over and b4 I built my PC I knew how it felt to have that low-quality PC lagging to all hell on lowest quality. Developers have to accommodate for those low quality gamers since they make up the vast majority of the market.

I have a mid range gaming PC and upgrading in a few months. Graphics certainly help but newer consoles isn't going to change much.. even MMO games developed with consoles in mind will still release them on the PC and will want to scale the graphics to run on a variety of systems.

i loved Phantasy Star Universe on Xbox 360. And FFXIV looks really good on Playstation 3

Phantasy Star Universe on the PS2/360 has given me my best memories of gaming. If they released PSO 2 on consoles i would geek out about it :P

FFXIV is the first true console MMO this gen. I've been playing the beta with M/Kb, this game proves that MMO's are possible but the graphics are slightly below par IMO.

Hopefully next gen we see more MMO games on consoles. It's the main reason I'm jealous of PC players, I didn't realise how much I missed MMO games until I started playing FFXIV beta!

Supermax3946d ago

Ar Tonelico Qoga: Knell Of Ar Ciel Retro Review – Love Conquers All

Gary Green said: You’ll be forgiven if you haven’t heard of the Ar Tonelico trilogy. The previous two games arrived so late in the PS2’s life-cycle that they simply went unnoticed. While most were tinkering with their shiny new PS3s, Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia and Ar Tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica were being ‘returned to sender’ by your local Game stores. Luckily, you won’t need to have played them to understand and appreciate this third and final chapter, Qoga (pronounced k-yoga) tells the story of a racial war between humans and Reyvateils, a breed of biologically produced female cyborgs capable of reproduction, while still having a digital mind.

Oh my god. I kinda wish this would get a remaster on PS5, it would be awesome. One of my favorite games on PS3.

That and 3D Dot Game Heroes. It's a shame that some stuff is stuck on PS3.

Ar Tonelico 3 is good I still prefer the first AT game. The music is solid in all the games and Akiko Shikata is a very talented singer bringing life to the game. Only annoying part is well I find is Saki I always choose Finnel or Tyria. KOEI so needs to HD remaster the franchise along with Ar Nosurge and Ciel Nosurge since it never came to North America. I would day one the Ar Toneliceo games and Ar Nosurge if they were remastered.

I still have the limited edition of Qoga unopened. Unfortunately it never went up in value like I had hoped all these years.
