Mad Max Preview – King of the Wasteland I TheKoalition

Richard Bailey of TheKoalition writes:
During Sony’s Pre E3 2013 Conference a few weeks ago, Avalanche Studios showed off the first official debut trailer for their upcoming Mad Max reboot. While the trailer consisted mostly of computer-generated cutscenes with no gameplay footage, fans in attendance grew excited at the opportunity to finally play a brand new Mad Max video game.

The next day, I had a chance to sit down with Warner Bros. to take a deeper look under the hood at what all they have planned for this title. Here are a few of my thoughts on Mad Max and why it may be worth picking up when it launches on consoles in 2014.

Mad Max demo was very early in development but still looks promising.

No aussie voice or multiplayer bargin bin for me.

porkChop3959d ago

I don't mind not having multiplayer as Avalanche's games have a ton of things to do so you never get bored. But no Aussie voice? WTF? It's Mad Max! How can you have Mad Max without his Australian accent?!

showtimefolks3959d ago (Edited 3959d ago )

Yeh not having Aussie voice actor is a very bad move but I am still interested. Avalanche studios said they are treating this like a new IP that's why they are using American voice actor

Still I say they should have gone with Aussie

Bercilak3958d ago

I agree. The more that I read about what Avalanche is doing, the more I think that they're making a generic open-world game on which they can slap the Mad Max name for branding purpo$e$.

@showtimefolks:

Ah, but that's the point: it's *not* a new IP. It's an IP that's older than probably most--if not all--of the developers actually working on the game. Avalanche's answer is a non-answer.

showtimefolks3959d ago

I don't agree with you on no MP it's a open world game what if single player is 20-30 hours its well worth the asking price if that's the case

It's gamers like you who only buy games with MP that's why we see publishers asking developers to throw in an after thought MP so it could make gamers like you happy

I rather them focus on single player 100% and make that the best they can

Avalanche is known for its open world games but also known for crappy single player stories so this is a test for them to prove they can get their usual great open world with a proper story to go with it

urwifeminder3959d ago (Edited 3959d ago )

Yeah I love multiplayer and co op if a game does not have it auto bargin bin for me the only open world games I finished this gen were crackdown and saints row 1 and I had a lot the constant travel feels like dead gameplay to me each to their own.

WeAreLegion3959d ago

I don't expect the voice acting to be good, so I don't care what accent the guy has. Avalanche and story telling don't exactly go hand-in-hand. The game play is going to be incredible, however.

Pintheshadows3958d ago

What are you talking about? Just Cause 2 has the best voice acting of any game ever. Even better than the Last of Us. /s

despair3958d ago

They really need to get a proper Aussie voice, but I have hope for this one as the devs are quite good at what they do.

6 Games That Genuinely Deserve A Current-Gen Upgrade

Games such as Mad Max, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Batman: Arkham Knight desperately deserve a modern-day revisit.

thorstein8d ago

Mad Max is underrated. Such a fun game.

Cacabunga7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

RDR2 still looks astounding on PS4 Pro. i cannot imagine how it could look with a next gen upgrade.

JonTheGod7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

Probably not very different.

No idea why this article is highlighting recent beautiful graphically-advanced games and saying they need current gen makeovers. They already look better than most new releases; just compare Arkham Knight and Suicide Squad!

Yi-Long7d ago

It's obviously never gonna happen since Sony killed the game and studio, but Driveclub. Even in its current state, 10 years after release, it still puts many competitors to shame ...

Demetrius7d ago

I'm not into racing games but yeah I even looked at gameplay of that sometimes

Demetrius7d ago

Mad max ikr! Far cry primal, it amuses me how ubisoft just left ac unity hanging, sadly most of the good staff left from rocksteady while being forced to make that abomination smh

I had a blast with a Bugs Bunny game on PS1 as a kid. It is probably trash now but at the time, it was awesome.

"50 Cent: Blood in the sand"

Ps3 scored 6/10 all round loads of review sites but was so much fun while not a technical masterpiece in any way has a worthwhile engaging story and script and of course an unbeatable soundtrack.

Honorable mention to Drive Clubs Ferrari Fxx-K. Should be there over Horizon.

The Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak from the Gran Turismo series

Nissan Skyline from Need for Speed Underground

Motorcycle Steamroller from Dead Rising 3

And finally a car you never drive but saves your ass over and over : Honey Badger from COD MW2

I was thinking of Mad Max. That V8 felt really good to drive around in, especially with upgrades.

No one liked the Batmobile in Arkham Knight. Top 10?

toxic-inferno466d ago

I don't know... It was a strange addition to the game, and the parts of the game where you had to fight in it were tedious. But driving it around Gotham felt brilliant.
