5 New Franchises I Loved & Stopped Caring About This Generation

MasonicGamer.com: As we reach the end of the current generation I find myself starting to reminiscence by what we’ve seen. I’m already wondering what my top ten games of the generation are going to be but there’s still life left in this generation so it’s a little too soon for that list. Instead I started to think about some of my favourite franchises and my current status with them, eventually this list came to mind.

What I’ll be doing is listing five franchises that I used to love but lost interest in as time went on for whatever reason.

Two games i initially loved this generation n eventually stopped caring about are Resistance and Infamous

I can understand for Resistance, but why Infamous ? Only two episodes that are both great and a new one for PS4 looking more than good. There're plenty of reasons to keep interested in this franchise, in my opinion.

What is the connecting reason?

Sequels......most if not all had sequels. We loved these series for them being new and something we didn't have + they were also really good games.

We just kept getting more of the same.

This generation of gaming was somewhat a joke in terms of "creativity " because there wasn't much creativity happening in the industry on the mainstream level like it used to.

I actually do not understand resistance becuz all 3 resistance games on ps3 were all different.

There has been too much over saturation of franchises this gen. A-Creed was so great at first, I played both Creed 2 sequels, the 3rd came out... I just couldn't give a rats arse anymore. I was fatigued of playing the same thing over and over.

I just bought Dead Space 3 this weekend... first impression is, I'm bored of that as well.

For me it was the Halo, Super mario bros, Gears of War, Assassin Creed, Resident Evil, and COD franchise. It got to the point where i was like... "Again????".
I've never played Uncharted 1 so Uncharted 2 was new to me and 3 was what got me really hooked. I honestly have to say that the new Tomb Raiders was very refreshing. Thats what franchises should be, go on hiatus for a 2 or 3 years and come back with a big bang!
Can I put the Final Fantasy 13 series into its own Franchise? LOL

For me it is something a little less obvious. It is Army of Two. I know it was never a genre defining series but I loved it all the same for the ridiculousness of Salem and Rios. Then EA gutted all that gave the series character with Devil's Cartel.

For me it is

1. Gears of War
2. Dead Space
3. Infamous
4. EA Skate
5. I want to include CoD since my first game was CoD2 on 360. I liked the series, but after Black Ops 1 I hate it.

I agree with the 1st 3 franchises especially AC with it's yearly releases. If Sony had put out another UC already I would probably feel the same way about that franchise too.

God of War, Assassins Creed and anything Bioware touches.

1.Gta
When I look back GTA for me was a game like CoD is ,a game to pass time.
It was incredible back then now it's outdated, every developer can do it.
This gen open my eyes, see Fallout 3, see Mass Effect, see Red Dead Redemption(add a story, realistic encounters and you already got a more revelent game).

2.Resistance series
Number one was great. Multiplayer was more deep, even the single player was it's own thing, the way the story was told by narration was great. Insert RFoM and than Res2 and try to tell me Res2 is not trying to be CoD.

3. Most of the Mario series
Use to be a fan of the party games like Mario party,Golf,tennis,ect ect. I haven't outgrown them, they just suck now.

4.Call of Duty
Cod4 at the time was to me like the first time I saw The Sopranos or Breaking Bad. Now it is all over. The only thing that interest me is the zombie mode still not worth the 60$ game and the 15$ dlc for a single map.

5.Killzone and Halo
I don't know if I am just tired of FPS in general but now it's just the same game with prettier graphics. No improvements in the story, no innovation....

Saints Row series - Like SR1, Loved SR2, Disappointed with SR3, and given up on the series once I saw the trailers for SR4.

Resident Evil series should get a lifetime achievement award for single handily destroying a series in a single generation

I wish they would take a break with Assassin's Creed because I really loved the series, then I played Revelations which wasn't as good, then I played Assassin's Creed III, and can't even get myself to play it, I just have no interest to play it.

I loved the Resistance series, but havn't really cared for it in the past couple years, I just want Insomniac to make a real Ratchet & Clank game, like A Crack in Time

Why is Call of Duty not on this list? The reality is, the author picked some of the most popular and best game franchises of this generation, and of all time. Of course after multiple iterations the games aren't going to wow you the way they did when they hit the scene. I'm waiting to see what these franchises bring to the table for PS4/Nextbox. I'm sure that will give everyone who got a little tired of them this gen to renew their enthusiasm.
