Mass Reflect: Looking Back on the Mass Effect Series

The staff at VGU.TV take a look back on the Mass Effect saga and how they feel about it now that Shepard's story is complete.

I'm about halfway through ME2, so halfway through the trilogy. It's not horrible but I question all the accolades the series got. The story is derivative but still great, no doubt, but the shooting gameplay brings the whole thing down several notches. So far ME > ME2 imo. I can't see myself buying any DLC for it.

I agree as well. As far as the DLC is concerned for ME2, you don't necessarily need em. If you're a hardcore ME fan, then I would say definitely get em. As far as the game itself and coming from ME 1, I really had to fight myself on getting rid of the game, cuz they took out sooo many of the rpg aspects of the game that is Mass Effect. Basically if both ME 2 and 3 had all the RPG aspects of part 1, MIXED with the shooter mechanics of 3...they'd be outstanding as far as gameplay.

The DLC for Mass Effect 2 is actually pretty good. I recommend it

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
