iOS & Android Gaming To Become 'Dominant Gaming Channels'

A developer who stated next-gen consoles will fail and one of the big three manufacturers will 'drop out' of the console race next-gen says mobile platforms will become dominant.

Mario Wynands posted on NeoGAF stating Wii U is in 'serious trouble' and later told NowGamer that either Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo will drop out of console manufacture during the next-gen of consoles.

He said the reason for this is the rising popularity of gaming on iOS and Android.

Hahaha the day i start gaming for real on a phone or tablet is the day i quit gaming altogether. without real controls and buttons gaming on those platforms is worthless.

And yet there are a raft of tablets and phones starting to hit the market with built in controls. Android 4.2 introduced the ability to plug in controllers to tablets. Isn't there also an android based console hitting the market next month...

I've never understood this argument. Touch screens are no different than point and click with a mouse, with the exception that you can also throw in gesture recognition on the touch screens and that's seldom used with mouse input. It's not that touch screens aren't perfectly serviceable as a method of input for games, it's just games have to stop trying to mimic console like controls because it it does is remind the gamer that they don't have a controller in their hands.

I currently develop mobile games for a living and I think this is BS. There will always be a place for dedicated, gaming platforms in the home. The rise of mobile on phones and tablets may be cutting into sales on mobile gaming devices, that's to expected, but it's like saying 3DS sales are cannibalizing Wii-U sales. They're too entirely different markets. I don't know what the hell this guy is on about...yet again.

He has to say that since its the type of games that he is making. No way in hell would I rather play a game on my phone instead of a console...

I worry for Sony. I know the ps3 sold great, but so did the PSP but look at Vita.

I don't think Nintendo is going anywhere because they have Mario to lift them.

Microsoft has too much money and they're way too smart and in tune with current generation of gamers, especially in the USA. So they won't fail.
