Top 5 PS3 exclusive games

One area where Sony manage to consistently trump Microsoft in this generation of the great console war is exclusives. Coming up with the top 5 was a bit of a stretch, and there are plenty of other PS3-only games worth your time aside from this lot. Anyway, on with the list!

there is wayyyy to many maybe top 15

Merrill4101d ago

Demon's Souls is my #1, by far.

HammadTheBeast4100d ago

It all depends on the genre you prefer. Playstation exclusives cover almost every single genre out there. Personally, GT5 was my favorite.

indubitably4100d ago

no way, Sony's best franchises are GT, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, and Metal Gear. I can see someone being really into Demon's Souls I guess but the rest of the franchises are weak in comparison to other games in their genre.

theBAWSE4100d ago

in all seriousness it needs a top FIFTEEN list

journey motorstorm and starhawk need to be in there somewhere

plaZeHD4100d ago

@indubitably
Really!!!?
What about God of War, Heavy Rain, Little Big Planet, Kill-Zone[2], Journey, MLB The Show?

aCasualGamer4100d ago (Edited 4100d ago )

This top 15 list is based on the games with the greatest WOW moments and the most fun i had with them over the longest period:

1. Heavy Rain (The only time a game made me emotional)
2. God of War 3 (Epic got a new definition)
3. Uncharted 2 (Visuals got a new definition)
4. Killzone 2 (Best multiplayer this gen)
5. Resistance 1 (2nd best multiplayer)
6. Uncharted 3
7. Killzone 3
8. Uncharted 1
9. Metal Gear Solid 4 (Snake! got a new definition)
10. Heavenly Sword
11. Motorstorm 1 (Best arcade racer)
12. Gran Turismo 5 (Best simulator racer)
13. Littlebigplanet
14. Warhawk (3rd best multiplayer)
15. Siren Blood Curse

Didn't even mention great titles such as Infamous, Journey, Flower, Folklore, Ratchet and Clank etc.

1. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
2. Demon's Souls
3. Uncharted 2
4. Heavy Rain
5. God of War 3

The Last of Us and Beyond: Two Souls will be in the list later :)

Merrill4101d ago

I played and finished Heavy Rain, but I find the game extremely over rated. It had great atmosphere, but the writing was atrocious. So many holes in the story, terrible controls, stiff animations.

Why the does the killer have internal dialog about trying to find the killer? It makes no sense at all. Developers really need to start hiring actual writers for games, I expect better.

I would prefer a minimalist story, aka Demon's Souls to a overly melodramatic, hole filled story that is Heavy Rain. Let us hope his next game has better writing and execution to it.

jammy_704101d ago

Mgs4 was awesome but just not enough gameplay to many cutscenes. Uncharted 2 has to be the best, killzone 2 up there to.

3-4-54101d ago

They all have a dark look to them...

Sony needs to use the other 5 million colors in the human visible spectrum.

Donnieboi4101d ago

@ merrill: okay so u prefer a different type of storytelling, but games like Heavy Rain are heavily story based. So if you dont like that, then that's your problem. It was meant to be dramatic. After all, it was trying to blur the line between movies and games

Philoctetes4101d ago

@ 3-4-5

Yeah, I really get sick how the Uncharted series is nothing but greys and browns.

Merrill4101d ago (Edited 4101d ago )

@Donnieboi

My point is that they didn't do a very good job at it. I love a good story, but I would prefer they do a coherent job of it. I have nothing against a story based game, but make sure you at least check your story for obvious holes and questions left unanswered. They need better writers.

Other than the internal dialog of the killer looking for the killer, why does Madison act shocked when she is told who the killer is? She never met or heard of him? Why the hell did Ethan keep having black outs? No explanation at all, moments like these took me out of the experience.

If you didn't notice any of the story problems, then that's not my fault. Look them up, it's pretty silly.

I did enjoy the game, but it's no top 5, or even a top 10.

SolidStoner4101d ago

Metal Gear
Gran Turismo
Uncharted
Killzone
Little big Planet

from any direction..

DOMination-4101d ago

The typewriter bit was terrible. Really crap writing lol. Still loved it though.

N4Flamers4100d ago

@Merrill

I loved heavy rain for its mood an atmosphere but I agree with you 100%. The story in a story driven game should be the main focus but most of that game had weak to incoherent writing.

The blackouts that Ethan kept having were explained though and here's the answer. When Jason was killed the killer was at the scene and him and Ethan developed a psychic link. Every time a child was killed Ethan would have a blackout or hallucinations. This part of the game was not finished and scrapped from the final product, but they left most of it in there to cast suspicion on Ethan. That just tells you how lazy and unorganized quantic dreams was.

Heavy rain spoilers

The other retarded part was in the antique shop where the man is killed with the typewriter and the Shelby looks shocked to discover him dead yet he's the one who killed him and no one else was back there to see his reaction.
How about how ethan escaped a platoon of cops and a helicopter by falling off a small building and carjacking a taxi while the cops just watched him.

uncharted 1
uncharted 2
infamous 1
infamous 2
Heavy rain

ChickenOfTheCaveMan4101d ago

Even though I really enjoyed Infamous 1, I played it again after Infamous 2 to get a missing trophy. I couldn't do it, 15 minutes in I gave up because they enhanced so much things in the 2nd one, the 1st one was really crappy to play.

Great games age well and that's really not the case with Infamous 1.

omi25p4101d ago

well i first played infamous 1 two years after it came out and i loved it.

I still play it sometimes

nix4101d ago

Gotta say I didn't see no. 1 coming but it's always nice when a list surprises you.

Although I would add, WHERE IS RATCHET AND CLANK WHY NO ONE LIKE THOSE GAMES!!!!?!??

....seriously

remanutd554101d ago

Ratchet and Clank A Crack in Time ranks among my top 10 favorite ps3 games.

StrongMan4100d ago

Where's God of War 3, Infamous 2, Gran Turismo 5, LittleBigPlanet 2, ........

LOGICWINS4101d ago

Yeah, I can agree with Valkyria Chronicles and Uncharted 2. Everything else no. I would have replaced Demon Souls with Infamous 2.

plaZeHD4101d ago

1, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
2, Little Big Planet 1 and 2
3, God Of War 3
4, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots
5, KillZone 2
But soon this will change.

abzdine4101d ago (Edited 4101d ago )

before i clicked i thought Valkyria Chronicles! i like this list there is some heavy stuff in it! i'd put Killzone 2 or WipEout HD instead of Demon's Souls imo.

Mugen Souls Retro Review – Sexy Demon Space Adventure

Gary Green said: We have a juxtaposition of 2D and 3D visuals, flashy turn-based combat, quirky anime characters with cheeky dialogue with plenty of partial nudity; Yes, this is a Compile Heart JRPG. Whilst the engine is borrowed from Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, Mugen Souls is more of a Disgaea spin-off. It’s not a strategy RPG as such, it merely sits within Disgaea’s ever-expanding universe (Multiverse? Netherverse? Your guess is as good as mine). You won’t find cameos though, since Mugen Souls is a franchise which aims to stand on its own two feet.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies22h ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken17h ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing691d 9h ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker1d 9h ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo1d 9h ago (Edited 1d 9h ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing691d 8h ago (Edited 1d 8h ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos1d 5h ago (Edited 1d 5h ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt20h ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken17h ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos1d 15h ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto1d 14h ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger881d 14h ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).

ChasterMies1d 4h ago

Trevor in GTA 6 is a sadist and psychopath who dabbles in cannibalism. Should be top of the list. These game “news” sites should hire people that know games.
