Nintendo Wii U to catch people off guard

Marketwatch.com:''The new Nintendo Wii U is going to catch a lot of people off guard in much the same way that the original Wii became a surprise best-seller. This has a lot to do with the company’s unique perspective and inventiveness that borders on the artistic.''

Yes I agree. I have over 600 shares of Nintendo (NTDOY) now. I bought super low at 15.01 per share. Forbes and all the analyst say Nintendo is a bad bet and all Doom, the stock keeps on dropping because the official profit earnings reports are not in yet. I'm telling you people if you don't buy a few shares now you will regret it. I also made a mint on NIN stock right before the original Wii came out. Bought a $12 per share. Remember back then? Everyone was saying Wii would fail and NIN would be bought my MS or go 3rd party.

Last of all here is how I know WiiU is a hit. I have a 5 year old son, about 3 weeks ago after I got him from school he started asking me for a WiiU. I never told him what it was, but his WHOLE school knows about it and going crazy. If the kids want it, the parents buy it.

bigfish4164d ago

thats the problem right there,, as long as the kids are crazy about it,, the core adult gamers will stay away because of the percieved stigma attached to it as being a kids toy,, thats the primary reason i bought Far Cry 3 for my ps3 instead of a Wii U (both were released on Friday in UK)

TruthbeTold4164d ago (Edited 4164d ago )

Adults don't stay away from Call of Duty, and that's the biggest 'Kids toy' in gaming, so I don't think your point carries much weight. There may be a small class of very young adults who feel the need to 'get away from childish Mario', but those people are relatively small in number. The Wii U just like other consoles, is a child's toy and an adult's hobby machine.

Nothing wrong with you being satisfied with what you've got. But if your reasoning is 'Because of the stigma attached to it' then you probably need to look at the bigger picture, and realize that pretty much only the 17-25 crowd, desperate to show that they are no longer kids feel that way. They are nowhere near indivatice of the whole.

shutUpAndTakeMyMoney4164d ago (Edited 4164d ago )

then best of luck to you! Lets hope the casual bite like last time.

That just means the specs really mean nothing since soccer moms wouldn't care in the first place.

I remember when nintendo was $8 a share 6 months back.

I hope you profit form it.

I am pesronally waiting for ps4 as a gamer.

SilentNegotiator4164d ago

I would have waited to get shares lower. They're still coming off the high of the Wii, even if they're almost off it. It will level off at about $10, I'd guess.

neogeo4164d ago

Yes I was thinking about that but then I got scared. I waited too long for Amazon stock and it went sky high so fast, I figure to play it safe.

SilentNegotiator4163d ago (Edited 4163d ago )

Sure, but they'll pop up to $25 in a few years, EASY. You don't want to miss out, but you don't want to rush in, either....thin profits won't do much good when the year ends, assuming you're in the US (your profile says NA, anyway).

sdozzo4164d ago

I know we all would but she still has a punchable face.

MadMen4164d ago

Its already a disappointment in hardware and launch games, it will fail in comparison to the Wii.

iNFAMOUZ14164d ago

man what is up with nintendo now a days??? gamecube days were awesome, they need to bring back the gamecube days management and fire all the new wii-wiiu management.

grailly4164d ago

HAHA
"remember the days we weren't earning as much money? let's fire everyone and go back to that!"

Microsoft’s Surface and Xbox hardware revenues take a big hit in Q3

Xbox content + services up 62% while hardware down 31%... seems about right with the way they tout you don't need the hardware to play. People can play on their phones or smart tv or other means. I don't hardly play on my consoles directly since getting devices like the logitech g-cloud and ps portal. Which is to also say I have been playing more digital than physical because of these devices.

solideagle6h ago

you should apply in MS PR team buddy, I think you will do a great job in my humble opinion :)

Sonic18813h ago

I thought darthv72 and Obscure_Observer already work for Microsoft 🤔

dveio3h ago

MS: "Xbox services and content without AB up 1%, with AB up 62%. Hardware down 31%. In total a loss of 350 mill."

darthv72: "Seems about right."

MS: "Excuse m ..."

darthv72: "I don't hardly play on my consoles directly."

I can tell people like you are an absolute minority..

If service is up means their fans and fanboys accepted this model and subscribed to it. The near future you will see a big decline because the service is saturated.

shinoff21835h ago

But that's been ms for years. When things aren't going their way they try to change the way things are said. For instance console sales are down, they stop telling how many sold instead telling us how many hours spent in halo or headshots. So it makes sense console sales down just say people are playing on more devices then previous. What they won't say is how many xbox players jumped ship to ps5.

Cacabunga3h ago

Hardware sales are so bad that Sony and Nintendo are blowing the sales off the water with their hardware.

If Xbox are losers, others aren’t..
Xbox already tried everything with Xbox live then subscriptions went down so much that they had to find something else. Their fans subscribed then reached saturation rather quickly.

Hardware and exclusive games is where it’s at! Keep gamers excited, announce decent software and people will support you

Xbox hardware revenue tanks to lowest point of Xbox Series generation

Profchaos8h ago

I'm not surprised surface is struggling they aren't relevant anymore

XBManiac7h ago

Too expensive hardware when others offer the same or more for less? Good work, Green Team.

SimpleDad7h ago(Edited 7h ago)

"Despite some early successes for Xbox games on rival platforms, Xbox hardware is down by a massive 31 percent this quarter."
"Without Activision Blizzard, Microsoft’s overall gaming revenue would have actually declined this quarter."
"Xbox content and services would have only been up a single percent without Activision Blizzard..."
"It looks like next quarter is going to be a similar story for gaming at Microsoft, too."

That is crazy... so A/B/K is carrying the whole Xbox gaming.
Oh and Microsoft will be fine. Windows, Office and Cloud are growing with each pc purchase.

purple1016h ago

Activision: "we gonna need a bigger rucksack/backpack please"

Microsoft: "why's that"

Activision: "to carry yo' weak ass'

Profchaos6h ago(Edited 6h ago)

Top brass have also wanted to start seeing returns on the 100 billion they have put into various Xbox related moves so seeing more multiplatform games is highly likely especially from abk

It's basically saying that PlayStation is the reason Xbox is afloat right now thinks to Ps5 versions of COD

Kornholic5h ago

So basically PS and PC gamers' money is keeping Xbox on life support.

Why Monopolies In Gaming Must Not Be Allowed

As of right now, there are no monopolies in the games industry, and for the sake of the medium as a whole, they never should either.

thorstein17h ago

Shouldn't be allowed in any field.

Inverno14h ago

And yet the biggest tech companies in America are essentially that. They buy up all the small comps only to kill them off and steal what they have, and if they can't buy em they bleed them to death.

jwillj2k412h ago

Eventually they’ll realize the value is with the employee not the company. Buying an IP means nothing if the people who contributed are let go. They’ll get it one day.

MrCrimson12h ago

tech is different because they buy threats and then kill them. Twitter bought Vine and did nothing with it. Despite people seemingly liking it. Could've had tiktok a decade before bytedance. go figure.

Zenzuu13h ago

Monopolies shouldn't be allowed regardless. Not just for gaming.

MrCrimson12h ago

They buy IPs not talent. That's why these buyouts never work and the IPs die. Right now it's too expensive to develop games - but I expect that to shift maybe as AI tools can make it easier. The best games have been indie games for awhile as big developers fuck their ips to death with "games as a service" -
