I sort of agree with the review. While 4/10 is probably a tad too low, the game was actually pretty average/boring, and Xenoblade was simply better in every possible way.

These sort of reviews should be illegal, because they are clearly not done in good faith but are done for hits. The sad part is that it affects game's metacritic rating.

It is a well known fact that Sterling is a major troll. Other reputable sites gave it very high scores, such as Gamespot (9) and IGN (8.5)

I don't think there is any such thing as a reputable reviewer. Gamespot & IGN are more worried about the sponsor/advertising money that writing a proper honest review.

I personally either just buy the game or I go to a forum where I know certain members that tend to like/dislike the same games as me and I see what they have to say.

I wouldn't call Gamespot or IGN reputable, but merely paying attention to scores is what's wrong with a lot of people. The score should be an afterthought to the article. Better yet, score systems should just be dropped.

its meta is still good, is at 81/100 but I'm the kind of guy that doesn't go by scores. I have played a bit of this game and didn't like it but I like Yakuza 3 which has an even lower meta.

If you're interested in the game the opinion of someone else shouldn't interfere with yours.

i've played it long ago (i am a european), and i wouldnt call myself a Wii Fan, in fact i hated on the machine and its crappy games for a long time, but (While Xenoblade is technically superior in most ways) the last story is never ever a 4 out of 10.

The Battle System got the most hate, and i have to say it really isnt anything spectacular, and it has a sturdy learning curse - it isn't for beginners, which is weird because it really isnt complicated to begin with. HOWEVER, you could say its just Mass Effect - without Guns, but with Swords and "some" magic instead. And again, the battlesystem isnt anything special, and it isnt even free of flaws, i'll admit that. But once you've got the hang of it, its really motivating. And i think Destructoid's reviewer simply didnt get it, and the epic battles it can produce.

The best thing is the story though - its totally oldfashioned - which is good, because any story nowadays overcomplicates itself, and forgets what actually makes a well written story. and the characters are awesome. the main heroine for example... she is the first female characters that isnt either tough as sheat, or fragile as big boobs in certain japanese games tends to be, but she really is written and reacts as a normal person like me and you would.

(Ive written a german review a while back, and 'til this day, i'll stand with my 8/10.)

Gonna start ignoring reviews altogether. The scores are generally pathetic, and far too often they don't match up with the content of the review. To make matters worse, you have reviewers who don't even review the games seriously, nitpicking and bitching about things that NOBODY would care about, or grading it harshly because it's part of a series or genre they don't even like.

What purpose do reviews serve anymore? It's damn sure not for the sake of informing prospective buyers what they're money could be spent on.
