ps3 cannot do proper 3d either. on consoles 3d is a GIMMICK. its only pc that can do it the way its supposed to be done. on consoles game devs use algorithms to create a 3D ILLUSION that you'll need a 3dtv and 3d glasses to view properly when its actually almost the same as the 2d version. proper 3d requires TWICE the processing power and TWICE the frame buffer size, pixel fillate and bandwidth. while fake 3d only requires as little as 1% extra processing power. so therefore if a game runs 30fps in 2d its supposed to run 15fps in TRUE stereoscopic 3d on the same hardware.

if you think the ps3 does proper 3d then you are terribly ignorant. sony is just being brilliant by trying to entice people into buying their 3dtvs. I'd do the same.

@Axecution

You have no Idea what you're talking about. killzone 3 only splits the frame and alpha buffers into 2 and thats it its not true stereoscopic 3d thats also he reason killzone 3 looks significantly worse in 3d than 2d. in 3d killzone 3 runs 640x716 when doing 3d on pc the framebuffer and alpha buffer resolution does NOT drop so what the hell are you talking about ? and its the same as PC ?

uncharted 3 3d is 896x504 per eye

http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...

look at the killzone 3 3d analysis and you'll realize that killzone 3 does fake 3d

http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...

split screen is NOT the same as stereoscopic 3d, if you think so they you are foolish. I suggest you get some experience in game development I assure you that you'll learn a thing or two.

the frame rate drops in killzone 3 and others others are they up to 50 percent drops as its actually supposed to be when TRUE steroscopic 3d is performed? NO killzone 3 never runs at 15fps and has almost no 3d effects it still has some because it runs 2 split frame and alpha buffers but doesn't render 1 separate frame for each eye. or are you really going to say any ps3 games have metro 2033 or even batman: arkham asylum pc 3d quality ? if so you are insane.

even a 2006 high end pc is between 5-7 times more powerful than ps3 and you somehow think it can match pcs in 3d ? thats the most idiotic statement I've heard in a while LOL

ps3 cannot even match bulletstorm pc visuals which by the way don't even loo as good as crysis 1 running medium 8xAA 16xAF @1080p and you consolites are trying to talk ?

lol the super computer that cannot even do cross game chat or emulate ps2 in software which my pentium 4 can do and run all games at 720p 60fps(all the ps2s with backwards compatibility have the ps2 emotion engine in built in so uses ps2 hardware to run ps2 games rather than software emulation) lol consoles FAIL.

@qwertyz
Theres so much idiocy in what you just said its unbelievable.

By your logic, split screen gaming requires 2 times the processing power.
Let's take Wipeout HD. It runs at a solid 60fps when in 2D mode. Play it in 3D, and it's 30fps. Same with Killzone, Stardust, etc.

The PS3's 3D is the exact same as a PC's 3D, just at a slower fps for obvious reasons. How the hell do you even 'fake' 3D? Its just looking at the image from different perspectives in each eye... You can't... fake it. That doesn't even make sense. It's not an illusion. If anything, an illusion would... frik, i can't even...

As for the 1% processing power thing you said. If that was true, then why would they need to drop the fps to get 3D running?

LOL n4g commenters sometimes. xD

How can you hate on a well made 3d movie or game?

I don't get why ppl are so afraid to move on with tech...

sarshelyam4630d ago (Edited 4630d ago )

Glad they decided to differentiate between which games are anaglyph passive 3D, or dynamic stereoscopic 3D...considering they produce two radically different experiences.

However, including games that have no 3D mode confirmed seems a bit "fluff". Those shouldn't be on until confirmed.

badkolo4630d ago

until 3d is universal and 1 proper path is chosen, passive or not etc.. 1 type of glasses and its just included in every tv and not mad e spectacle of then it will succeed because as of now its not doing that well.

MoonConquistador4630d ago

Explain what you mean by not doing that well. Considering the amount of content thats out for it (games/Blu rays/certain TV Subscription channels) the adoption rate isn't that bad, and it will only get better as costs decrease and content increases.

Whilst i agree somewhat that a single path would be better for all, different technologies drive competition and advance the technology. So someday we may be watching content that looks as good as full steroscopic 3D, with passive type (cheaper) glasses on, or even better, with no glasses at all

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies10h ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken6h ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing6922h ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker21h ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo21h ago(Edited 21h ago)

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing6921h ago(Edited 21h ago)

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos18h ago(Edited 18h ago)

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt9h ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken6h ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos1d 3h ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto1d 2h ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger881d 2h ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).

ChasterMies16h ago

Trevor in GTA 6 is a sadist and psychopath who dabbles in cannibalism. Should be top of the list. These game “news” sites should hire people that know games.

I never got around to mass effect - I’m skeptical that it would hold up if I were to try it now

Furesis1d 19h ago

I would say it does. The combat is a bit shit for todays standards but everything else is great.

It's worth a play through today.
