Critical Gamer writes: The phrase ‘JRPG hero’ conjures up a certain image in your mind and, whilst I may not have every last detail, I have a pretty good idea of what you’re seeing in your mind’s eye right now. Young, male, probably blonde, sharp hair, almost certainly holding some sort of sword. It’s like I’ve ripped your head open and I’m staring at your brain! Does it hurt?!?
The point (I think) is that pretty much every lead character from every JRPG so far produced share many similarities. Thus was born this deconstruction of the JRPG stereotype. Depending on how sadistically minded you are you may, if you wish, replace the word ‘deconstruction’ with one of the following: examination, dissection, autopsy, exhumation.
Final Fantasy 7 has come back under the spotlight thanks to the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but is it worth replaying the original?
Very much so. Graphically it's dated but the story and the gameplay haven't aged a day. It's still one of my all time favourite RPGs and for me is better than Remake in some ways.

Rise of the ronin sold twice as much as Dragons Dogma 2 this week...but no articles about that. It's only news if a PS exclusive is being outsold.
Yup, can't really disagree with that. It seems to be a fairly copy and pasted formula.
The JRPG Hero has a pretty stereotypical characterisation right enough. Surely they can give us something different for a change?
That's a pretty short list. Though the truth is you could deconstruct characters from any genre and they'll usually come out with as many if not more similarities than they've listed here.
