I luv the XMB now only thing that sucks is reading messages.

zootang5093d ago (Edited 5093d ago )

I'd be ill if they changed it

Edit: I love it the way it is. I hope at least we get the choice to keep it

MasFlowKiller5093d ago (Edited 5093d ago )

In what world?

like my XMB better then the NXE because i use my ps3 for more then just games, getting to my music and movies is so much easier in the XMB

If they do change it, please don't clutter it with adds, i hate that on the NXE and i would hate in even more on the PS3 cause its my main console

darthv725093d ago

would be the way the store feels detached from the rest of the xmb. I like that they created shortcuts in each section but you still cant go back to other sections of the xmb without being prompted to leave the store.

That is really the only thing I got.

BannedForNineYears5093d ago

If they change it, it had better not perform any slower! I swear, performance>Polish.
I would rather have them speed it up than redesign it.

ChozenWoan5093d ago

I actually like the store being separate and hate all of the hotlinks they added.

I go into the store once or twice a week to see what's new, I don't need the store invading my gaming/entertainment environment, and heaven forbid they start dumping ads all over the place. When I want to go shopping, I'll go to the store, much like in real life. I know all of the new stuff is loaded up on Tuesdays so I usually check late Tuesday or first thing Wed.

I do wish they didn't use the same color icon for Home, The store, and What's New under the PSN section.

Now if they want to redesign the PSStore interface, that would be a welcome event. As is, it's something of a mess. They need separate icon types for PsP, PS3, PSOne games like they do in Japan's store. And seperate icons for movie videos from TV show videos would be nice. Not to mention a music section.

If they redesign anything, it should be the store interface... and just clean up the XMB a little.

HolyOrangeCows5092d ago (Edited 5092d ago )

So long as everything is as quickly accessible and they don't clutter the heck out of it like MS did with the NXE.

Hideo_Kojima5092d ago

Make all the PS3 menus feel the same...
XMB/Home/PS Store

I hope they don't change it completely like NXE.
Sony use the XMB in PSPs, Sony TV menus, Blueary Players (I think even in some MP3 players)

rob60215092d ago (Edited 5092d ago )

Would love to see Home preload at least partially in the background, and maybe have a whats new in the XMB for home - so theoretically you could just pop right into your home apartment. Still takes too long to get into home.

And people might buy more home clothes if their home avatar was more visible to other people like MS avatars. Maybe it should be part of each profile on the friends list.

DigitalRaptor5092d ago (Edited 5092d ago )

Yeah, I agree.

I don't want to feel like I'm shopping when browsing my PS3.

I choose when I want to go shopping, whether it's going out to the supermarket, or clicking the PS Store icon on the XMB.

WhittO5093d ago (Edited 5093d ago )

I did love the XMB but now it feels really cluttered and disorganised.

They could easily solve that by having say 1 icon instead of 4, like 1 for all game saves (PS1/PS2/MiniS/PS3 etc).

I think Dynbamic Themes help make it look better, but I think Sony should do a better job at integrating their services, like the friends list/trophy card dont even feel like part of PSN, where as the PS Store is on its own, not connected to anything else in the XMB interface (except the other PS Store icons which are unnecessary to have in Video and Games too!)

WhittO5093d ago (Edited 5093d ago )

@ disagrees, so your saying it isn't annoying that every time you change icons it annoyingly loads something up like from the PS Store or from the "Whats New", and it doesn't feel like there are lots of icons to 'flow through' to get to something now?

Guess I must have like an extra 5 icons to scroll through per column or something haha.

ALFAxD_CENTAURO5093d ago

'' disorganised. ''

Lol, XMB is the best Interface to Organize.

Marojado5093d ago

I would agree with the Friends List needing changing. I love the XMB, but whilst the online community is growing, it sometimes feels a little difficult to be a part of it. Being able to see your friends' friends lists and compare games/trophies with them would be a small change that would open up the community that little bit more.

WhittO5093d ago (Edited 5093d ago )

No, actually XMB is difficult to organise, for example do you know how long it takes to put 500 pictures into separate folders!!? You should be able to tick off which pictures to add to the folder, like when making a playlist, not have to go into edit each image and type the folder name EVERY TIME.

When adding videos, a large number of random folders are made, perhaps not the ps3s fault as it is trying to organise them, but how about instead of all them folders for each different video, they have '1' that is simply marked - imported video, or downloaded videos etc, until you move them.

Like I said, alot of these problems can be solved easily, sometimes it feels as though they have a team of like 3 people doing the entire FW updates and they just dont have the time to do all of the things we ask them.

Hideo_Kojima5092d ago

Yeah the renaming each album for every singel song/video in my case is really annoying sometimes.

It seems as if they could fix that easily though its not a technically difficult problem.

I think if this rumour is true we may get something completely different not just small changes to how the XMB works.

They may (I hope they wont) scrap the whole XMB concept and do a NXE move on us.

rob60215092d ago

I always wonder if the dynamic themes eat power when I leave the console on. It seems like the fan kicks on more often than when i use a static theme, it's more of a problem cause I have an original 60gb.

"New PS3 XMB Coming at E3"
oh god PLZ be true

its not like i hate the XMB
but i think its time to change
some kind of new blood

edgeofblade5093d ago (Edited 5093d ago )

I don't see how the XMB could get a "redesign", at least one of the order of the 360's NXE upgrade.

I actually like both the NXE and the XMB equally. I find the XMB to be very utilitarian and to the point, but 360 has more dashboard features, objectively speaking. They both do what they are meant to do very well.

woolley5093d ago

If they do make changes I hope they're small cause I like the easy navigation that the XMB has now.

Shang-Long5093d ago

If there's a premium service, I can see this happing

Heartnet5093d ago

If they get rid of Syncing then im all for a redesign :D

vhero5093d ago

Maybe If they allowed custom themes like on modded PSP's THAT would be cool! However if its a new redesign completely people would get p*ss*d off because off all the themes they purchased like myself.

nnotdead5092d ago

you can get custom themes. just type in ps3 themes in your search engine, and you will find a bunch of websites with custom themes. you can download them straight from the PS3s web browser.

Super-Brad5092d ago

I like the way the XMB is, but I agree that reading messages sucks, especially in-game, like the 360 I believe Sony should slim the ingame XMB down to the only needed catergories and with the options that do work ingame.

randomwiz5092d ago

The only thing I don't like is the friends tab, otherwise the xmb gets the job done.

Tomdc5092d ago

yeah! messages suck at the moment. I still hate how they changed it so you can't go to message lists by just clicking the user's pic :(

FACTUAL evidence5092d ago

another rumor! Don't get my hopes up!

sikbeta5092d ago

XMB = Awesome the way it is...

jerethdagryphon5092d ago

the darn thing won an emmy award what more do you want

vhero5092d ago (Edited 5092d ago )

I meant like the custom themes you get here
http://www.consolespot.net/...

I have a few on my PSP they completely mod the XMB layout not just the icons..
This would be nice on PS3 or something like it and a perfect example of what I am talking about
http://i102.photobucket.com...

THC CELL5092d ago (Edited 5092d ago )

i bet they are integrating move features

avengers19785092d ago

As long as there just tweaking what they already have. XMB is good for me.

farrelljade5093d ago

would be appreciated if true.

xYLeinen5093d ago

I really hope this is true. Looks like E3 this year will be quite amazing for my sake. Not only are they most likely introducing PSN premium, but a bunch of my favorite titles will be shown as well.

I really think Sony will start pulling through, and I couldn't be more excited. Perhaps this will lead to a huge disappointment for my sake, but I really don't think that will be the case.

Thumbs up for Sony. I think we got a bright future ahead fellow PS3 fans :)

ThatCanadianGuy5093d ago

I love it the way it is but i wouldn't mind the option to change it up a bit.

playstation_clan5092d ago

epically for 360, that console needs a complete makeover.

watch the disagrees

prodg525092d ago

they could make is a hide button where you can hide the icons you don't use. (like the store icon under every heading).

peeps5093d ago

"XMB has always been a cause for concern by some PlayStation owners"

really? always thought it worked really well lol

but tbh would be nice to see a revamped version

wicko5093d ago

I don't mind minor improvements but I don't want to see drastic changes like the 360 experienced. The difference being that the old 360 UI needed those changes, XMB doesn't.

Dark_Vendetta5093d ago

Actually I think Sony should do it the same way MS did it. I'm using my Ps3 very often since the Slim launch, but I still can't get used to it. They should make it way more User friendly. Everything should be put into like 4 or 5 categories and when you click on one of them you get the other options. Otherwise it all looks overloaded (just my opinion).
But hey I play the console not the XMB so it's not too important for me

tda-danny5093d ago

More user friendly?

You want to play a movie? go to the video tab. Music? music tab. Game? games tab.

I honestly don't know how it could be any more user friendly...

BaSeBaLlKiD7215093d ago (Edited 5093d ago )

The XMB is definitely more user friendly than the NXE.

I spent several minutes looking for the option to add Microsoft points. There were also other times where it took me a while to look for something on the NXE.

Hotel_Moscow5093d ago

base ball so you ran into the same thing as well the nxe i couldnt find anything i wanted music i had to go to the music section and then go all the way to the right in order to see a list of music same with videos and pictures

while the 360 might have more stuff and look vivid and full of life almost everything that takes up space are things you have to pay for goto music you have a bunch of music to pay for before you get to youre music same with videos and games

the only way to make the xmb better is to allow more cutomization to the theme or give me a choice ot use the theme that guy made on the playstation forums

facelike5093d ago

It's never been a problem. For the casual audience, the controller is the problem, and they sell a PS3 remote for those people.

Either way, I welcome any changes, but they do not have to. The XMB works fine.

Sony Patents To Prevent You From In-Game Harassment By Reading Your Emotions

A new patent recently published by Sony wants to gather biometric data of gamers to track whether one is being harassed using AI tools.

Profchaos1d 7h ago (Edited 1d 7h ago )

I hope this is one of those patents that never comes to fruition.

I already dislike the fact you can pay a significant amount for a online service buy associated games and content on said service and get banned from that service over potentially a misunderstanding the bans are already handed out for flimsy reasons

I'd rather see money invested in a ban that simply removes the offensive players ability to communicate with unknown players allow them to continue party chats with friends but not with Joe blow on cod.

exputers1d 4h ago

Agreed. Blizzard recently banned a college Overwatch 2 player who's dependent for saying "shit." Pretty harsh.

Profchaos13h ago(Edited 13h ago)

How rediculas really. You can't say a word that's allowed in most PG films and prime time TV but the game is based around killing the enemy team using guns, explosives etc.

It's just backwards.

just_looken14h ago

What your talking about is called block list

In 2006 a spaceship dropped of the playstation 3/xbox 360 i say that that generation was the last great gen with game functions/tech that has yet to comeback

Anyhow the playstation 3 if you block listed a id they could not talk to you in chatroom with either text or voice. But that was pre mind fucked 2018 when people were more human than sheep.

But hey gta 6 is coming out billion dollar budget without a single player custom character creator and without singeplayer coop off/online something saints row 1-3 had on the xbox 360.

Take my social security and bank account numbers too! Here’s a picture of my wife and our address.

phoenixwing23h ago

Cmon where's the pictures of your children. Don't hold out on them.

H91d ago

At this rate I feel Sony will eventually sell a room to play games in it where they can monitor your every breath

jambola20h ago

I genuinely get a bit worried sometimes when a friend says something that could be offensive In a party
Because I have no trouble believing some bans would happen when in a private party for saying something wrong

SegaSaturn66923h ago

I want them to censor erotic content by measuring my groin temperature so i dont get too distracted while playing black ops 2.

Popsicle22h ago

Terrible idea. Not only do I not consent to providing my biometric data, the potential for mishandling biometric data is almost a certainty. Positive stress and negative stress can produce similar changes in biometrics. Interpreting the precise emotion a person is feeling is not only invasive but could be easily misconstrued. I hope this never comes to fruition.

Sony Could Increase Your Game's Difficulty If It Sees You Complain About It

Sony has recently published a new patent that wants to dynamically handle the games' difficulty and gameplay based on the player's emotions.

jznrpg1d 16h ago

This is something I might use. Sometimes I play some good games but they don’t have difficulty option and are a little too easy.

Profchaos1d 15h ago

Souls games will be like that players struggling make it harder

Please do not put Destiny’s monetization into Sony’s first party games. The monetization is what’s driving players away from Destiny.

The new temp boss is the sony cfo bean counter so i can see this being a thing get every penny.

Cacabunga21d ago

PlayStation officially losing it.. fans will never support gaas games

just_looken21d ago

@car

The new boss did a interview in japan he wants to tap into the mobile market like nintendio so he give 0 fucks about gamers/fans

https://www.pushsquare.com/...

Redemption-6421d ago

@Cacabunga
You only speak for you and those who think like you, but most fans will support what they want. Playstation and PC fans are literally supporting Helldivers 2 and that is a gaas. Maybe you wouldn't, but many more would if they like it.

Huey_My_D_Long21d ago

@Redemption-64
Look, Im not making any judgement calls about this guy, but I will say that Helldivers 2 GaaS model is unique to Helldivers, and legit the only other game I can think of thats similiar was the Avengers game except HD2 pass is still better.
The fact that you can earn in game currency in a way that doesnt make you feel like you have to grind forever, as well you being able work on that pass that you bought...on your own time without a time limit...that right there is fucking huge to me, and I can't name any game other than avengers that avoided trapping players with FOMO logic...I think GaaS on HD2 shouldn't be compared to the rest of the industry...it should be copied.

Einhander197221d ago

Cacabunga

Helldivers 2...

Redemption-64

In Europe it's a 60 40 split favoring PC.
In the US its a 60 40 split favoring PS5.

So PlayStation owners supported the game just fine, it's not getting carried by PC or anything like that.

FinalFantasyFanatic21d ago

@just_looken,
I'm perfectly fine with the way Nintendo entered the mobile market, I never touched their mobile games, meanwhile, the console/handheld stayed the way it is. As for being a bean counter, he's probably going to reel in these massive budgets that Sony's studios have had lately, I haven't played Spiderman 2, but I cannot see how they almost tripled the budget for that game.

@Redemption-64,
That's an exception to the rule, I'm expecting a lot of these GAAS games from Sony to fail, to be fair, they only need a few to succeed, but I would have preferred that they put more of their resources into other types of games.

+ Show (3) more repliesLast reply 21d ago
DivineHand12521d ago

True their monetization is driving players away and at the same time, their decision to chop out content and convoluted systems is keeping new players away from the game.

Joe91321d ago

I don't think that will happen based on how things worked out at Naughty Dog now that we know what we do, seems they had the option to fully commit to live service games or stay making single player experences so they gave up on their live service game. We are not sure how things came about with Bend making a live service game but I hope that was not a forced situation. Sony doesnt seem like they are forcing studios to switch up but we will see, Sony's bread and butter is single player games it is how they dominated the console market.

Obscure_Observer21d ago

Yeah, I though Sony learned something from all their failures in the LS segment under Bungie´s disastrous leadership and supervision which led to games been cancelled, studios closed and all the people laid off.

Looks like Bungie still plays a major role in Sony´s LS initiative and Sony is not backtracking on their GaaS plans.

S2Killinit21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

Are we forgetting that Destiny is also a highly successful franchise? I feel like that definitely deserves mention here.

Besides, there is no reason why a person cant learn from past experiences.

Joe91321d ago

I agree, people act as if Destiny flopped when it came out lol it took 9 to 10 years for the numbers to fall yet people are still playing it add the success of Helldivers 2 no wonder Sony is going forward down this path.

S2Killinit21d ago

Personally, I see no problem with Sony also having service games as long as they make good ones, and more importantly they deliver the AAA story driven games that they are known for. So yeah, I agree 100% with you.

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 21d ago
Christopher21d ago

I mean, this person made some pretty bad decisions at Bungie. I hope they've learned from them because I definitely don't see those type of ideas as good for PlaySation in general.

CrimsonWing6921d ago (Edited 21d ago )

Honestly, what’s to learn from? How to make people happily continuously dump money into a single game over its life-time? Buy season passes continuously for several years with a smile on our faces?

GaaS is a design decision that is everything wrong with this industry. The fact that Helldivers 2 did so well and people defend the monetization because it was $40 and is a fun game, scares the sh*t out of me to see that the door is open and all shift will probably be to replicate that in future games. We already know the ROI for traditional game dev cost isn’t doing it for them.

I thought with Jimbo leaving we’d see a change for the better… I’m not so sure now.

S2Killinit21d ago

Service games are being offered by everyone. Sony cannot afford to only create single player AAA games. No one can. They already said they will be doing both.

Abnor_Mal21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

Ps5 gamers in 2023 seemed to play more live service types of games, so regardless to how people feel about them, numbers don’t lie and Sony is going where the money is. I mean look at the excitement around Helldivers2, people are showing that they want live service games.

Christopher21d ago

They play long-time existing live service games like CoD, Fortnite, Apex Legends, Destiny 2, and the like. Mass majority of new live service games are considered failures and aren't moving gamers away from older games.

just_looken21d ago

Yep the huge issue with live service is they need paid players along with a reason to play them.

You forgot mobile market that also taps into that player base as well as the eve online style games there is only a certain amount of krakens/whales blind supporters compared to the amount of live service games we have its not sustainable math wise.

700 restaurants making food for every seat for 1000-3000 eaters just does not work out

Einhander197221d ago (Edited 21d ago )

Christopher

I am not a big live service fan and literally own zero of the games you listed, but that is not true, unless you call games that aren't the top games to be failures.

There are tons of live service games that are profitable.

Games don't have to be the biggest game ever they just need to make more than they cost.

I challenge you to show professionally prepared data that shows that more live service games fail than make enough to keep going.

Because all the data that I have seen shows that live service is less of a gamble than making a big AAA budget game which needs to survive off retail sales.

FinalFantasyFanatic21d ago

I sometimes wonder if we're at saturation point, where it's hard for a new game to join those ranks unless it's particularly exceptional, people only have so much time and money to devote to these types of games.

romulus2321d ago

Correction, they have no issue playing good live service games

shinoff218321d ago

Lol it's not even a quarter of the ps5s sold. Helldivers may have been a hit but let's not say most are enjoying it because truth is most(the real most ) don't care about it.

S2Killinit20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

I play what is fun. If a live service game is good I’ll play it as long as its not a money scheme which Helldivers is not.

And Im a single player gamer.

mastershredder21d ago

How do you kill a franchise that already been killed?
Destiny’s grind, cash-in-on-playbass-cha-Ching, and pop-culture-insertion mainstream-me-too bs totally killed any rep Bungie had. Sony/Bungie, if you are doing this to ward-off players, it’s already working.
